set up your DS so you start at the home screen instead of jumping straight into the game. that way you can make sure its reading the GBA game properly. then go into your diamond or pearl version

When Platinum comes out, Magmar and Elekid (or perhaps Electabuzz) are going to be catchable in the wild without the requirement of another game catridge (this is possibly mainly due to the DSi).

First things first, you only need the national dex and fire red in the gba slot, nothing else. None of this repels and certain levels in your party, its all b*llocks. I found an elekid on my second try looking and the first one i cuaght had the electrizer. And guesse who was in my party, A level 52 Salamence and a level 49 Sneasel (with false swipe i might add). So just have the things i have listed above and you should be fine.

No, electabuzz has to be traded WITH the electrzer. But good news, there is about a 1 in 8 chance that your elekid will have the elecctrizer (i got mine on my first try) so just keep looking for loads and you will find it.

Also you dont need any of what thingy said. You just need fire red in the gba slot and to be in the patch outside the valley windworks with the national dex. Hope i helped.

Make sure you have FireRed firmly in the GBA slot. Once I had the game in the slot but the DS wasn't seeing it so I had to restart the DS and put the game back in. Swaping GBA games while D/P is still on won't do anything either.

Want to know a VERY easy way to find them? Go to the field outside the Valley Windworks, with FireRed in the GBA slow. Elekids are found here 8% of the time at level 9 and everything else is level 6-8.

Put a level 9 Pokemon (no higher, no lower) in the front of your party and use a repel. Walk in the grass and you will be attacked only by Pokemon levels 9 and up, in other words... by Elekids. You will occasionally bump into a level 9 Shellos, but its not common.

This exact method only works for Elekid outside the Valley Windworks. You can find them in the nearby routes too, but the levels are different.

This method can be used other places as well, most notably in the Trophy Garden to catch the Pokemon of the day.

This doesn't work for Magby because Magby is like level 22 in an area full of higher level Pokemon. It works in any situation where the Pokemon you are searching for is the highest level in the area. I know that it works for the Pokemon of the day in the Trophy Garden.

This doesn't work for chaining. Because you will encounter Pokemon in the moving grass of any level regardless of repels. In fact, sticking something low out front will probably make you get attacked randomly while chaining, thats bad.

The only good things to put in the front of your party while chaining is a Pokemon with Swarm, Magnet Pull, or Static. To increases chances of encountering something of Bug, Steel, or Electric types (respectively).

catching an elekid is to easy. i wasnt even TRYING to find an elekid and i found one. AND my riolu was the first pokemon in my team so you DONT need static to find one

I can explain why it doesn't work. First what u need is: A national dex, and the game Pokemon Fire Red.Put fire red in your GBA slot. NOTE:Your DS needs to be off if you put the game in the slot. Now go to the Valley windworks.Search at the grass for pokemon and u will encouter a Elekid. Its 50% chance at pearl that it holds a electrizer and 5% at diamond.If u got a pokemon with the ability STATIC then it would be easier to find a elekid. Anyways..
