A first bike should be 2nd hand and cheap. That way you can drop it without worrying much. I know guys who have bought a Ducati as their first bike and crashed it within a week.

Racing cars and motorcycles isn't as different as you think. It's takes the same sort of skills, pickinging a good line, threshold braking, going in to corners at the right speed. Most people who are good at one can quite easily master the other.

Going from racing motorcycles to cars would be a simple transition. You basically just take all the skills needed to ride a motorcycle and throw them out the window.

However, going from cars to motorcycles will require the individual to acquire those skills needed to ride on two wheels.

But someone who races bikes would have to learn about, oversteer, body roll and down force before they could effectively race cars. There are aspects unique to both. What I'm saying is the fundamentals are the same.
