Is this the right speed to play it? I've been playing it faster and will be very happy if it's slower than I thought as I need it perfected in a month and have only just picked it up again :S
Playing is stylish with appropriate tone colour. Cimarosa is similar to Mozart in respect of the style. It is happyto see you adopted a lighter , harpsichord-like touching. Other candidates played the piece too 'heavy' and forceful so they failed in teh examination.
hey, is that necessary to have a retardando in the end? i am going to have the exams the day after tmr, I wondered if i need to add some retard. Thanks.
Nah, it's optional. It 's common in this era of music to have a slight rall. at the end, even if it's not written into the music. Good Luck with the exam!
Out of all the ways I've seen this piece played, I like yours the best! I think it should not go too fast so that the listener can listen to the melody properly and as it should be! I'm playing this piece for my Grade 8 Exam too, and I am no way near this standard! Any advice/tips? :)
Heys, I'm going through the Grade 8 Exam pieces as well and this is one of the piece I played. You played great though, I preferred this way of playing cause compare to the rest, they playing Technically Fast and not bringing out the Musicality.
ahh, this was very good, great playing! =) Do you happen to have a copy of the sheet music? I need to find a copy for my university exam but I can't find a copy anywhere =(
Hey :D amazing version of the piece, the control was really very good. I was wandering if you have any advices on how to improve the playing of this piece? im taking my exam next month and anything would be much appreciated :) Do you think the CD's version is the correct one to go by? Thanks :D
Thank you for your nice comment! Good Luck with your exam next month! Yes, I think the CD has a good version on it! To make this sound right, just make sure all the notes are clearly articulated! let me know how you get on with the exam! Cheers -Colin
Thanks very much for the support and advice :D My teacher believes the CD version isnt the one he prefers so he wants me to play the piece legato throughout. Do you think i should discuss maybe the CD is the better reference to go by? Thanks again :)
Well, it's a personal choice....For me , I think it sounds more 'baroque' if you detach the notes. Too much legato makes it sound too 'classical' to me. It's hard to know for sure what an examiner will think though....
Hi, nice playing. I am teaching this piece of music too.I read the footnote and found tht Cimarosa can be considered as a Classical period composer who wrote quite a lot of works for violin. i suggested my students to play them like the violin effect with articulations, but never dare to do staccato=)
But ur playing might change my mind..Nice playing.
Well, I think either way is valid. I play it both ways but prefer the more baroque sounding way of detaching the notes, non -legato style but not quite staccato.
and you can actually mix the staccatos with slurs in them, it doesn't matter how you play them, put in your own dynamics and style. i play some of the quavers slurred and some of them staccato.
you play so well it's hard to believe it's ..... possible. lolz!!!!
D: it's not fair... how can you do both the alligator crawl and this piece so very well?i should hate you but i really love the fact you can do both a 20the centuary piece and a baroque piece. it was really helpful too!
ps do ya remember me commenting on your other video? oh and do you play debuessy?
You did an amazing job! A few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed that I would be testing so early. I went on youtube and typed in the song and i saw your video. It was incredible. Now I'm trying my hardest to level up to you. Thanks for such a wonderful performance! w/♥, Jenny(:
I'm not that techno savvy so never quite manage to record the pieces for my pupils, so it's handy that they can listen to something at home when they are practicing. I really like the Grade 8 pieces this year. Have you got the Prokofiev March on here?
Thanks for this....it's so helpful! It sounds beautifully regular and controlled. I'm taking the exam this term (Nov/Dec) and this is one of the pieces I'm working on and do struggle with although it's falling into place now (I hope). I keep coming back to your version to remind myself of how it should sound!
I'm practise for my grade 8 next year ^^ hope i can play like u ^^ i love ur playing. but it seems like a bit slower than wat the metronome sign written, isnt it? 1 crochet = 100 ? correct me if i'm mistaken
The notes are already detached! Then there are people here who think that the notes should be LESS detached! So I guess it's an individual choice, in absence of the Composer being alive to give his authoritive opinion on the matter!
Well, I kinda copied the CD version -before that, I used to play it all legato! When i first heard the Cd I was really amazed at how 'un - legato' it was!
I'm no expert though, so it would be best to get some other opinions:-)

I'm doing this one, the Clementi Allegro con Brio and then either the Gershwin or Fats Waller for my exam. I think it's a really good choice for Grade 8.
