  • is this kabalewski ?

  • Is this the right speed to play it? I've been playing it faster and will be very happy if it's slower than I thought as I need it perfected in a month and have only just picked it up again :S

  • @pegasus2503 Yeah this is about the right tempo

  • Does this song requires little dynamic changes?

    I am confused about this

  • @TheTinykingdom When I played it I added dynamics into it, if that's what you mean

  • Playing is stylish with appropriate tone colour. Cimarosa is similar to Mozart in respect of the style. It is happyto see you adopted a lighter , harpsichord-like touching. Other candidates played the piece too 'heavy' and forceful so they failed in teh examination.

  • very nice!!! I like it. could you please listen to mine please??

  • nice.. is thre a diff btwn stacatto & detatch?

  • yeah, a bit

  • I like this video because it actually gives some varying articulation, and I've been having issues with that. beautiful playing!

  • Thank you so much, Mandy!

  • A nice one indeed. Keep it up!

  • What is your score on this piece?

  • Chibiisuke I didn't do the exam -just played this for fun!

  • @ColinMitchellMusic oh ic.. ty then.. =)

  • Colin! remember me? please allow my video response and comment on my video! :)

  • Of Course I remember you!

  • This is just like the recoarding cd!!

  • LOL!

  • hey, is that necessary to have a retardando in the end? i am going to have the exams the day after tmr, I wondered if i need to add some retard. Thanks.

  • Nah, it's optional. It 's common in this era of music to have a slight rall. at the end, even if it's not written into the music. Good Luck with the exam!

  • @franceslss its ritard. lol.

  • Out of all the ways I've seen this piece played, I like yours the best! I think it should not go too fast so that the listener can listen to the melody properly and as it should be! I'm playing this piece for my Grade 8 Exam too, and I am no way near this standard! Any advice/tips? :)

  • Thank you! Just practice it over and over nice'n'slow until you have good control and accuracy....GoodLuck with your exam!

  • Heys, I'm going through the Grade 8 Exam pieces as well and this is one of the piece I played. You played great though, I preferred this way of playing cause compare to the rest, they playing Technically Fast and not bringing out the Musicality.

Thanks for sharing your video. =]

  • Thanks Zam , appreciate your positive comment! Good Luck with the exam!

  • Most of the abrsm grade 8 exam pieces book has been sold out.

  • beatz94, the first two pages are really easy but the second two are pretty hard.

  • well played but i really dont see hw this is grade 8 music ..

  • probably cos it's in the grade 8 book?

  • @Beatz94 LOL owned.

  • @Beatz94 because the last page and the few bars running into it are difficult

  • ahh, this was very good, great playing! =) Do you happen to have a copy of the sheet music? I need to find a copy for my university exam but I can't find a copy anywhere =(

  • Thanks, Jordan. You can find this piece in the current ABRSM Grade 8 Book...Cheers -Colin

  • oh really good playing, i usually cant change fingers properly at the bar 4 onwards... haha. really good playing anyway. :D

  • Thanks voicerawks! Good luck with it!

  • Hey :D amazing version of the piece, the control was really very good. I was wandering if you have any advices on how to improve the playing of this piece? im taking my exam next month and anything would be much appreciated :) Do you think the CD's version is the correct one to go by? Thanks :D

  • Thank you for your nice comment! Good Luck with your exam next month! Yes, I think the CD has a good version on it! To make this sound right, just make sure all the notes are clearly articulated! let me know how you get on with the exam! Cheers -Colin

  • Thanks very much for the support and advice :D My teacher believes the CD version isnt the one he prefers so he wants me to play the piece legato throughout. Do you think i should discuss maybe the CD is the better reference to go by? Thanks again :)

  • Well, it's a personal choice....For me , I think it sounds more 'baroque' if you detach the notes. Too much legato makes it sound too 'classical' to me. It's hard to know for sure what an examiner will think though....

  • Okay then thanks for all the advice :) It has really helped!

  • Hi, nice playing. I am teaching this piece of music too.I read the footnote and found tht Cimarosa can be considered as a Classical period composer who wrote quite a lot of works for violin. i suggested my students to play them like the violin effect with articulations, but never dare to do staccato=)

But ur playing might change my mind..Nice playing.

  • Well, I think either way is valid. I play it both ways but prefer the more baroque sounding way of detaching the notes, non -legato style but not quite staccato.

  • @ColinMitchellMusic Me too! I like your way!

  • hey colin, what brand of piano are you using here?

  • It's a Kemble silent series. Look at my channel page for details about it:-)

  • this song quite nice~wanna try it~but i chose external piece for List A. so i will just play this for fun. Thx for sharing. Nice playing~

  • Thanks, Lilian!

  • best pianist on youtube?

  • Definitely not!!!

  • wow, this version is the best i've currently seen on youtube! well done, 5 stars.

  • Thanks for your great comment!

  • this speed is just nice... I am now practicing the same song... Going to have exam next year... Well done!!

  • Very nice !! what marks did you score for this piece??

  • I didn't -and am not doing -the exam.

Just played this cos i liked the music....

  • this speed seems fine.

and you can actually mix the staccatos with slurs in them, it doesn't matter how you play them, put in your own dynamics and style. i play some of the quavers slurred and some of them staccato.

you play so well it's hard to believe it's ..... possible. lolz!!!!

  • Thanks for listening, musicdreaming. It's a funpiece to play!

  • isn't it is played faster?

  • Don't think so.......

  • Nah its not played faster, my exams today and this is like the speed i play it at (yn) x

  • how long u prepare this pieces dy?

  • A week maybe....

  • omg!grade8 so easy?haha

  • LOL!

  • D: it's not fair... how can you do both the alligator crawl and this piece so very well?i should hate you but i really love the fact you can do both a 20the centuary piece and a baroque piece. it was really helpful too!

ps do ya remember me commenting on your other video? oh and do you play debuessy?

    -V

  • LOL Thanks for your amusing comment, it made me smile! Yes, of course I remember you! And yes, I play Debussy!-Colin

  • I'm enjoying listening to your playing. I'm way past my prime and stopped lessons after grade 5. Can't go past a beautiful piece of classical music.

  • Thanks, Ozrockerie:-)

  • Just a quick question.

I've got the notes right and everything, but I'm having a little trouble with the trills.

    My fingers aren't fast enough.

    Any hints Colin? :P

  • Probably just to say the obvious thing of praactise slowly and gradually increase the speed!

  • Right. Ty.

  • You did an amazing job! A few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed that I would be testing so early. I went on youtube and typed in the song and i saw your video. It was incredible. Now I'm trying my hardest to level up to you. Thanks for such a wonderful performance! w/♥, Jenny(:

  • Thanks for that great comment , Jenny!-All the Best -Colin

  • I can't believe I never thought of looking on you tube for ABRSM pieces - fantastic playing, Colin. Thanks for uploading these, very helpful

  • Thanks Lorraine, glad to be of service:-)!

  • I'm not that techno savvy so never quite manage to record the pieces for my pupils, so it's handy that they can listen to something at home when they are practicing. I really like the Grade 8 pieces this year. Have you got the Prokofiev March on here?

  • Sorry, Lorraine, I haven't done that one yet...

  • Thanks for this....it's so helpful! It sounds beautifully regular and controlled. I'm taking the exam this term (Nov/Dec) and this is one of the pieces I'm working on and do struggle with although it's falling into place now (I hope). I keep coming back to your version to remind myself of how it should sound!

  • Thanks , grannysal! Good Luck with your exam later on this year! Best wishes -Colin

  • I can't remember now! Don't think i did :-)!

  • Did you use the pedal at some point in the song?

  • I'm practise for my grade 8 next year ^^ hope i can play like u ^^ i love ur playing. but it seems like a bit slower than wat the metronome sign written, isnt it? 1 crochet = 100 ? correct me if i'm mistaken

  • i mean I'm practicing for my grade 8 xD...grammar error

  • Hi Fiona- This is played at about 100 -crotchet,so the tempo is correct here..

  • Comment removed

  • you played it nicely. i thought it could have more emotions though

  • Fair comment..............

  • Emotion isn't exactly easily conveyed through the internet without the camera pointing at his (I think) face.

    Aye?

  • aren't more notes supposed to be detached so that it really sounds like it is in the baroque period? or maybe its just based on individual ;D

  • The notes are already detached! Then there are people here who think that the notes should be LESS detached! So I guess it's an individual choice, in absence of the Composer being alive to give his authoritive opinion on the matter!

  • Oh Damn, this piece is even more random then the Allegro con bro T_T

  • Well, thank you Jesslyncool:-)!

  • ;D wow.. but whatever i think u play nicely.. u are one of my reference :D

  • Well, I kinda copied the CD version -before that, I used to play it all legato! When i first heard the Cd I was really amazed at how 'un - legato' it was!

I'm no expert though, so it would be best to get some other opinions:-)

  • i'm alil bit confused bout the way playing it have to legato or bit staccato??

  • Neither, Jesslyncool. Put little gaps between the quavers - not so much to make it staccato, but just enough so they are not all legato -that'll make it more baroque -sounding. Listen to the ABRSM grade 8 CD for the best reference,,......

  • wow thanx.. i thought that at that era there re piano, so we can play like usual.. whatever, u played it nicely so u are my reference.. ^^

  • okay, thankyou soo much :] x

  • thats really good! im playing this piece too :]

but my piano teacher tells me to play it legato, are the notes meant to be detached?

  • Yeah, nicola, lightly detaching the crotchets puts it in the baroque period -if you listen to the ABRSM CD , he plays it detached as well.

  • dont u mean detaching the quavers

  • yeah, sorry.Quavers.

  • Hello, I would just like to say thank you for posting all these excellent videos. They have helped me with my grade 8 piano exam study so much.

I've learned Allegro con brio (B:2) and Intermezzo in B minor (C:2) already and this will certainly help me learn this last piece. Brilliant playing :-D

  • HiPianoferny , Thank you so much for your kind comment! -Colin

  • I love how you play the second beat of the right-hand part in bar 73. Sounds SUPER COOL AND JAZZY AND JUST GREAT. So catchy =]]]]]]

  • Is it? I never noticed that, Drayken! But thanks anyway -glad ya like it :-)

  • Cheers, Drayken! I can't honestly remember if i bothered with the pedal -but if I did, it wouldn't have been much...

  • But if you did. Should I pedal for my exams? Woah. You reply me fast. Glad you did. Was thinking how I was supposed to get to you when my parents forbid me from any Internet access on schooling days. Thanks.

  • I don't really know about how you should pedal, Drayken, as it is all tied up with how you play , and as I haven't heard you play , I can't comment or help -sorry.

  • Hie again! Just love listening to your version of it. It's like a modal to me. =] Is it me os do you pedal at some points? Or mybe I got to dig my ears eh? Lve our piane by the way...!

  • I play it like you do. I mean detached that way. but mine a little faster XD and worse. I chose this song for my A too. @@

  • Hi Daryken08- I would love to hear your version sometime here on YT -Cheers, Colin

  • nice!

  • I live in Aversa the place where Cimarosa was born !

Your version is excellent my dear friend!

  • hihi. hahas.

erm. i chose this song for my A too.

the notes are suppose to be detached right?

but my teacher says just play normally cus there isnt a staccato there.

can u help advise on this?

    thx :D

  • Hi cranberry. The notes should be slightly detached to match the style of the period. I think any examiner would agree with that...Cheers, Colin

  • ohok. thanks alot!

    :D

  • That's Great !!!

  • Thanks, ac55hy22!

  • Thanks for taking the time to listen to the vids, Fortissimo!

  • Hi Fortissimo -yup , you've made some fine choices there:)

  • Thank you. I thought they were contrasting eachother, and even though it won't get my any extra marks, I thought it'd be okay to show off a little xD Thank you for uploading these videos by the way. It's interesting to hear the different ways they are played.

  • Little snippet of Pachelbel in there was there? =]

I'm doing this one, the Clementi Allegro con Brio and then either the Gershwin or Fats Waller for my exam. I think it's a really good choice for Grade 8.

  • wonderful playing~

  • Thanks very much, Loiusong!

  • nice performance , im also learning this piece as well .

  • it is really nice=]

  • nicely played!! i'm not familiar with cimarosa's style but i'm wondering if the notes are a bit too crisp (i know it's not supposed to be legato or anything) but it sounds really good! :D

  • yeah I know what you mean Chyuu. I used to play it more legato until I heard the ABRSMGrade 8 piano CD. Initially i was suprised at the the way it was played with such crisp notes but eventually decided to play it that way too:-)

  • Nice, I like this one ! :)

Nice piano by the way !
