  • I don't understand people who don't use textured paint on city buildings. It's just sand and the undercoat paint, maybe a little pva for strength. Then you dry brush it and it looks a million times better than just using paint. Sand is pretty much free if you ask for a shopping bag full at a builders merchants, go to a beach or steal some from a sand pit. You won't need much. You don't even need sand:broken bricks and dry dirt work just as well. Plus its less time painting. :)

  • Nice series Viv -- wish there was a part 9 so I could see the wash effect. After all my years of playing, you convinced me to jump in and start making terrain at 46! So far just simple stuff, but it is a blast. Thanks so much for taking the time to create all these videos and pass on your knowledge. I live in Arizona, but one day I'll try and pop in for a visit and the first round will be on me! Cheers!

  • oh man will be be doing the 9th part soon because i've started and really i need to finish befor school starts up again, so i have time to play with mates.

but mate great vids and hope you make loads more :)

a quick question what is that stuff in the big squizy bottle you called in chromacrol or something like that whats it for/do ?

  • That was just black craft paint .. made by a company called Chromacryl ... you could use any acrylic craft paint to do the same thing

  • Just checked the parts and i was sad that there wasnt part 9... Where is it ? :(

  • Sorry 'bout that! I'll be re-doing the last few parts, I can't find the original footage.

  • I would love to see the last parts of this series... any chance you'll be doing them soon?

  • Looking good dude

  • you should make a church and i loved your presentation of the city fight

  • This has been a great series I'm definitely gonna have to use it to make some Battletech building (scaled down of course)

  • Yeah, WhiteShadowZO does Battletech buildings and he has a few things up on how to build them

  • I'd love a wash, textured paint, or whatever tutorial you would be willing to spend the time to make.

  • Wow, mate, NICE tutorial! Can't wait to see the next part, but before you upload that one, it seems I've got enough video's from you to keep me watching for a while. Awesome, thats a subscription!

    Have a good one.

  • "Awesome, thats a subscription!" thanks for the kind words. more coming really soon

  • yes make tutoriouls on washes and i love the video editing :)

  • hahaha, still working on figuring out the software.

  • i second the wash tutorial

  • Still awesome videos, tutorials are awesome.

  • Id like to see a video on washes and how you can use them, that would be very useful.

  • Great vid, Viv. You gotta show your techniques for the washes. Cheers!

  • great 5/5

  • Wow, GREAT TUTORIAL, this tutorial has definitely inspired me to get something going with terrain!

  • awesome, thats what its all about. like seeing a fully painted fantasy army makes me want to crank out my empire and paint!

  • Hey, great to see you are into full swing again. Nice textures tutorial!

  • Thanks so much for commenting! I love your videos, your skills are MAD!

  • thats a Very good, different yet interesting way to paint!!! 5 stars

  • You can also use the same method for representing granite and marble floors etc. More on that later though

  • hay, i really like the idea of super speeding up the video on bits you have already explained! a very effective time saver for these 10 min segments. =]

  • Yeah it helps get everything in within the time limit. I also like it, it should me working real time yet keeps the total video time down.

  • how-to on the washes would be great!!

  • great vid man! love your tutorial on the building. you should definitely make a tutorial on how to make cheap washes to use for buildings and such. oh and yeah don't shake the paint can... the top can come off and paint will spill on your face :( had it happen before...

  • lol, i always wrap my thumbs over the lid to hold in place so that doesn't happen! best method is to open and stir it.

  • Why dishsoap?

  • It is to break the surface tension of the wash to make it flow easier and go down to all the cracks and crevices.

  • Great tutorials! I would be interested in seeing a how-to on the washes. Keep them coming!

  • I will make some a little later, there are several methods - simple and cheap, or expensive but professional

  • Thanks for the pointers!

  • ;-)

  • thanks i was ansious to finish mine so i did it differentlly but thanks ill try this for my others

  • there are so many ways to do things, thats one thing I love about modelling. Everyone will use their own techniques, making everything (even though they may be similar) ... different
