    I would have the doctor put the mother under for the "abortion" and labotomize her, keep her fed on iv til the baby is born, then euthanize the mother, some couple that cannot have their own kids would adopt the child.

  • That makes no sense. I oppose the wars in the middle east, I oppose the patriot act, and abortion is not a major component of feminine health care. It is an elective procedure unless it comes to the life of the mother and that is a rare scenario. Even then they are cheap because most people who get them don't want it shown on their medical records so they pay cash and that forces prices down. Someone does not have a right to take someone elses money and pay for it.

  • I don't believe that a collection of cells without any conscious thought is the same as a human being. I don't think others have the right to dictate their opinions on this matter to those of us who do not agree with them. A free society means you won't always agree with others, but it protects all of us from abrogation of our rights by others. You'll just have to get over yourselves and recognize you don't have a corner on "The Truth."

  • I was talking about women's reproductive rights. As I responded to you earlier, so much of our wealth is in the hands of a very few. This is not a feudal society where the lords set all the rules. Unfortunately, powerful special interests have influenced govt policy to the point that the historical hardworking "haves" have become the "have nots." This dichotomy is the widest it's been in about 100 years. We elect our government and y ou get to vote. Obviously you don't like the current admin.

  • Trickle down economics simply does not work, and neither does allowing interest rates to go through the roof. We used to have laws against usury. It's not just the unemployed who don't have or can't afford insurance, it's the working poor, and now increasingly the middle class. Insurance cos are a growth industry because they get to charge whatever they want yet provide fewer benefits. Every year our benefits get cut. I've reported double-billing and the insurance cos just don't care.

  • And not only have benefits been cut over and over again, just don't get sick. THEN you find out how little your insurance really covers. They find all sorts of ways to exclude costs so they don't have to pay. The medical model and how you pay for it needs a major overhaul. The pay-for-service medical model and fear of being sued means doctors order all sorts of tests that are not necessary. The money is not being taken from regular people. In fact we are taxed LESS than we have been for years.

  • I remain amazed that liberals refuse to understand that no one is going to get their magic universal health care. There is no money to cover it. The famous Medicare program is broke. Medicaid is liberals screwing the states so the fed won't have to pay for it. It doesn't matter who provides the coverage if there is no money to pay for it.   • If you read the health care bill, there is expected to be a net savings after changes to Medicaid and increased taxes on the wealthy.   • I would like to ask you again to be respectful of those you disagree with. I am over 50, have an advanced degree, and have worked in professional management positions almost my whole life. My spouse and I have well over a mil in retirement assets, and will be paying for private college costs for two children on our own. Most people would consider us wealthy. The top 3% of the population control most of the wealth in this country. The middle class doesn't catch a break. That's most people.

  • Not buying it at all. I am over 60. Didn't have time for an advanced degree but have worked up to and including president/CEO. I deal with operational costs for small businesses as a board director.

    You personal accomplishments are to be respected but what constitutional provision allows the federal government to steal my property and give it to other without regard for my efforts.

    I am the middle class. I don't want to catch a break. I want to work hard and make a break.

  • While not at the executive level, I have worked in senior management and in start ups, so I know a few things about how businesses work. All this money was earned by living below our means. The targets for tax increases are well above at least what 97% of people in the US earn. People filing jointly who make over $350K a year will pay more and the tax is graduated. People who work hard should be able to make a living wage. 1 in 4 working people in Houston are uninsured yet 88% of them have jobs.

I am an individual, not a label, and certainly not slimey. It's a matter of priorities. You are still paying for the health care of the ininsured - it's just not so obvious. If people could buy affordable basic care, then there'd be less serious illness and hence lower costs. You are also probably underinsured. Just don't get sick or you'll find out.

  • You certainly make a good pt. I completely agree with you about limiting government control. I don't see health care as a conflicting issue in the way you do, though. I'm more concerned about balancing the vast power and wealth of special interests vs people's civil liberties. Stuff like the overreach of Homeland Security, former VP Cheney's refusal to follow FOIA which was set up to keep elected officials accountable, rich corp entities (such as insurance companies) bleeding people dry etc.

  • Sadly capitalism is dead as we walked into corporate fascism. I heard Wells Fargo is now bankrupt, Dubai is unable to pay its bond holders and I figured Obama put off the troop announcement until 1 Dec as everyone is droppping the dollar. This healthcare debate has been a smokescreen so these elites and politicians can steall all the remaining wealth. We will be under complete control with use of the RFID as well.

I was hoping that the Dems would create some balance by putting needed controls in place, but it seems that too many of them are also controlled by special interest groups. I'm still hoping we can get some balance and that we demand more accountability from our elected officials and business leaders.

  • Ok, I'll look at your blog. Government does not run the printing presses. Look at Murdoch. It's business interests. Also, why do you think there's no profit to be made? They are raking in obscene amounts of money for the top executives. A little control injected would allow plenty of profit without price gouging. We don't dominate in R&D anymore. We need a better-educated populace that can create wealth and make better decisions based on knowledge. Education is the best protector of freedom.

Do you know that if you have a bed, a dresser, a refrigerator, and a roof over your head you are wealthier than 75% of the world's population? Part of Obama's plan is to get a more historically stable distribution of wealth. Right now 3% of the population has most of the wealth in this country. That's more extreme than it's been since probably 1890s.

  • Yes, we should pay off the debt, but if it's not done gradually it will completely stall the economy. Totally free markets mean no controls or government oversight at all. That's what's led to usury and other abuses in our society today. It's BALANCE that's needed.   • Actually I don't see anything like a tsunami. Are these economic indicators troubling? Sure. We are not in a position of strength at the moment, but these things go in cycles. The dollar will strengthen again, the price of gold will eventually crash, and China will continue to strengthen economically because of their cheaper labor, huge population entering the middle class, etc. That just means the US has to focus on research and education to stay ahead of the curve. We must invest in ourselves.

The ocean was soaking up a lot of carbon, but as it warms it's ability to absorb it is slowing down. New technology can add jobs. I also think the gov't should be considering a carbon tax instead of cap and trade because taxing carbon use would affect other countries as much as us. The idea is that we can reduce our carbon output but we just shift the output to China.

  • Look at the nations debt? We are printing money and that causes inflation and devalues our dollar. Gold is expected to hit 2,000 an ounce all foreign debt holders are dropping the dollar over the weekend. The markets are being manipulated.

  • Yes, we are undergoing inflationary policies to try to stabilize the economy. It's a tight walk. Gold always goes up in these times. Congrats to those who time it right and make a bundle. If you read the Wall St Journal or BBC or other international publications, it's a very complex system, but not a conspiracy. Distribution of wealth doesn't mean a crazy utopia or rejection of open markets, it just means the spread between the rich, the middle class, and the poor is not this extreme.

  • I wish i had your outlook. I do not read those papers. I look to other news sources. Infowars, federaljack, patrioticresistance, drudgerepot, huffingtonpost. All say different. gues it is how one absorbs or forsees the warning signs. I talk to others and they see a very bleak & dark future.

  • I guess I am hung up on that word illegal. We began birth control, sex education, and morality training in the 50's when I was in school under the misnomer of health education. Yet, teen pregnancy shot up. Women decided, after one decision, that the decision to have unprotected sex with a man they did not want to have a child with was a bad idea. So, they want someone else to be responsible for their lack of responsibility. Is the sequence right?

  • I beg to differ. We've done a lousy job of educating youth about sex and sexually transmitted diseases. When I was growing up nothing specific was discussed. A study reported this week found that adults don't discuss condom use until kids are 17, yet by that time 40% have already had sexual intercourse. Research shows that kids who are informed about sex and birth control wait, on the average, at least a year longer than their peers to have sex, and they are much more likely to use protection.

  • There were much bigger changes going on in the 60s that swept the country and the world which affected youth's opinion about sex. Unwed mothers, once heavily stigmatized, were sent away to keep it secret. Others would seek out illegal abortions and some of these women & girls died. I'm not at all for single parenting as a life-style choice or for having sex at an early age, and certainly not irresponsible sex ever.

  • Insurance companies don't have to cover the cost of contraceptives. How's that for stupid? Even with the excellent plans I always had through work (including several Fortune 100 companies), the cost of birth control was not covered. So, insurance won't pay to protect those who are sexually active, yet they also won't help them if they are in a bind. Which is cheaper - paying for birth control or paying for live births or abortions?

    You are confusing conception - the joining of male and female sperm and egg bringing both DNA together...with that fertilized egg actually being kept inutero until birth. The best thing to do is not let them come together in the first place....
