Thanks for PM ing me about yr video! I collect this man's vinyl records, and the animation has a great effect with the music. It reminds me of the stuff artists used to do in the 1970's, when I was growing up. Thanks.
It is not Jimmy Reed BTW but only me playing all instruments :-) & I created the animation, too.
It is no Jimmy Reed song he recorded but a combination of many things he recorded or people recorded who were influenced by him.
Jimmy Reed will be always in my Top 10 of Bluesmusicians with others like Sam Hopkins, JL Hooker, Slim Harpo, T-Bone Walker, both Sonny Boys, Robert Pete Williams etc.
Thank you. I prefer any original Blues from the 20s to 60s to almost every Blues(rock)-virtuoso. I like primitive and minimalistic music. I am not a minimalist, I am not a bluesmusician but I am inspired by the sound&primitive(good) music of people like JIMMY REED etc.
There is even a third guitar-track on this recording (but the accoustic guitar plays only chords on the off-beat and is in the background) because J Reed used a 3rd guitar on recordings (often his teenage-son).
@2009framat yes, now that you mention it I can spot very clearly the third guitar. Three guitars and no confusion on a song so clean and simple is a fine accomplishment.
Hallo framat, jawoll das gefällt mir natürlich sehr gut. Du weißt, ich mag die Mundharmonika und ihre Klänge immer und überall gerne hören und spielen.
Great stuff! Jimmy Reed is such an important architect of the music we take for granted, and his graceless faceless CDs sell for $2! Nice to see you keeping the faith!
Désolé l'Ami je ne maitrise pas bien l'anglais, Je voudrais te dire que ce que tu fais est un magnifique travil de pro!!! bonne continuation Big man:)
The Hermonica sounds a little ( Only a little. ) like, John lennon's playing in Love Me Do. If your going to comment, Please do not use profanity, or racist terms. That's all I ask. Thank you.
The similarity to John Lennon's harmonica style was pointed out by another commentator already.I am a big fan of Lennon's playing.Though he was not a virtuoso he&the Beatles put things together in their very own way &the songs got suddenly a total different meaning.
Jimmy Reed played like Lennon in the 1st position (and maybe other positions, too?) -M.Jagger played like most 50's bluesmen in the 2nd position.I play in the 1st chorus the 2nd position & then the 1st position.
@2009framat Thank You. I should have looked over comments first. I thought of that after I posted, my comment. Non the the less, it's nice that some who plays the instrument agrees with me.
No, you gave a very thoughtful comment. And I maybe should do a little tribute to John Lennon.I never was successful when I tried to play in his style but I did not try for several years.I have now a little more knowledge&should give another try :-)
@2009framat Wait, did you say Jimmy Reed played in 1st pos?. I have about 60 JR trax and I don't hear Any 1st pos. playing. It all sounds like 2nd to me. Maybe I missed something in your post?
BTW All my cartoons have already original music hahaha (I played all instruments&the songs are no covers either)-of course everything has already been said by the tributed bluesmasters&their contemporaries decades ago (& in a much better way)
This is sheer excellence...I love it - You keep the groove going and just cut loose on the top - You are a band leader extraordinaire. Your films are great, but your music is even better! You're a cool cat and a hell of a harp player! Well done...!!! GREAT work!!!!
Nice artwork!!! Very evocative of Jimmy Reed for sure. I thought I had already commented on your videos but I can't find my comments, sorry for the mix up. Keep it goin'
Thank you. I think you realized that there is only one "real" Jimmy Reed video on youtube. I recommend there for Juke Boy Bonner live in 1975. It has excellent quality. This harmonica rack player and blues songwriter was never widely known and died even younger than Jimmy Reed.

I 've got a clip in very good quality on my playlist UNKNOWN BLUESLEGENDS. He is even on the thumbnail. He started Music in the late 50's. I have two records of him.A mixture of JIMMY REED & LIGHTNING HOPKINS.Bonner came from Texas, too. He got his nickname from singing in bars to tthe jukebox when he was a kid and had no money to buy an instrument or only the harp.Later he played guitar&harp on a rack
You wrote the same about the SONNY BOY vid. But the clip is not only about harmonica playing - in fact it is a tribute to JIMMY REED- a complete band is playing (only me,LOL). I know I am no virtuoso but I am no diletant either (only on drums, lol). There is an animation. It is no instruction vid for people who like to play harmonica. How do you rate JIMMY REED as a harmonica player?
Don't mean to interrupt, but to reply to your comment, I'm not really a musician but a musical theatre performer and I make films. But I'm really good at percussion.
Thank you, but that is not even my main instrument but I thought it is nearer to a human voice than a guitar solo (since I am not singing in english).
Ilove Jimmy Reed, saw him at Winterland thanks to Bill Graham for bring in all the great blues players during the '60s. I went to gis in the SF almost every weekend from '66 til the '70's
It would be great if you would write more about it if you remember & have the time. I would like to know how you can compare the first gigs you saw with the last of JIMMY REED. What backing bands etc.. if you don't mind.Thank you

Yeah, one of them comes up in the related videos. Only 3 filmed performances, that's crazy. There must be hundreds of hours of film of some Pop stars (especially today's) who mean nothing, when Jimmy Reed changes lives. I mean it: you hear Jimmy Reed and you're happy, it's impossible to feel unhappy when you listen to his records, like the bit you used for this animation tribute (by the way, it goes straight into my favourites, but where does it come from? Is it actually him or a sound-alike?)
It is me playing all instruments. The daughter of J.R. said he could have performed on the ED SULLIVAN show but prefered to play for a live audience becaus that is were he got directly money which could not disappear in the canlas of his management/record company. He was ripped off by the record company VeeJAY like his label mate Curtis Mayfield (who founded because of this his own record label curtom).
Thank you. You did a very good job on the video. Never heard of Robert Caruso before. I have to admid I am very much a purist when it comes to the blues. I found Caruso enjoyable and thank you for mentioning the name and let me listen to his music. But somehow something was missing for my taste - I can't describe it - mabe he is trying to hard to sound like a bluesman. I hope I did not offend you. Again - he was okay and worth*****(but sometimes i make the mistake to compare now & then(1951LOL)
Thank you. I think going backwards to find the blues music is the common way unless you are a black senior citizien from the US or were born some 70 years ago in places like Tupelo, Miss. (or both).
Thank you. Well, this was a tribute and for that I would not consider as "my music" (even if I played it - but I know what you mean). The next vid will be atribute ,too.
But someday Maybe I will uploaded my own music but I am not sure if it makes sense.
Very cool video! We did 'Big Boss Man' at a local open mic last night with a few of the regulars.. So was amazed to see this in my inbox this morning.
Thank you very much. You are right I could have used more images and it would make the vid smoother (I am using only 12 frames in comparison the old silent movies from the 1910's used 18 frames). But that I won't do unless somebody is willing to pay for that kind of work, lol. Maybe you? hahaha
JIMMY REED was unique and absolut recognizable like his friend HOOKER - maybe a little bit easier to copy on his vocals (It is impossible to copy HOOKER's voice).
Wooooooooooow, bravissimo:-))) What more should I say???
Ciao Francis

Maybe you? hahaha
Greetings

Count me in. Jimmy Reed is the best!

JIMMY REED was unique and absolut recognizable like his friend HOOKER - maybe a little bit easier to copy on his vocals (It is impossible to copy HOOKER's voice).
