Missed the T-Rex era(too young). But I bought Zinc Alloy(on vinyl, no less) in 1989 and I thought this was one of the better songs on it. Can't understand why that album wasn't popular, a majority of those songs kicked ass.
Put your head between two good stereo speakers, get the lyrics and crank up this song just a little, sing along and let me know how good that makes you feel.
@DAVWAVE Couldn't agree more. Rapids is one of my all time favourite T.Rex songs. Absolutely timeless. The opening lyric is "Her mama said Clean out your head boy. Don't lay nothing on my child". The man really did lay some boogie on our minds!
One of Marc's best. Tanx is often overlooked in favour of Electric Warrior and The Slider but it's the third part of the trilogy of albums by the best T.Rex line-up. It's a wonderful album which is still as fresh today as it was when I bought it in March 1973. The album was so strong that Marc didn't have to include the recent singles and it stands on its own merit as a pure T.Rex album. "Donna La Folle par T.Rex" kicked off side two of the old LP version. Solid Gold Bolan.
Loved Boley for 40 years now ! Ever since that TOTP performance of Ride A White Swan ! I was watching it with my uncle who called him a " golliwog " . Rapids is DYNAMITE !
I first heard it in 1974 right after 'Light Of Love' (which was my first T. Rex album) was released. I heard Mott The Hoople singing Bowie's 'All The Young Dudes' and figured T. Rex must be great if Bowie sung about them in his song...so I checked them out and then became a dedicated fan and bought everything T. Rex, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Bolan ever put out. It took about five listens for 'Tanx' to grow on me and it's grown on me more and more everytime I hear it.
That is inteesting. Can you say which albums are your favorites overall. If I had to list them, I probably could do it. I am interested how you would rank them. Esp since you have them all.
That's pretty tough to do...'Unicorn' blows my mind as does 'A Beard Of Stars' ...the 'Marc' album I have with 'The Children Of Rarn Suite' is fantastic!!! 'The Slider' which includes 'BALLROOMS OF MARS' is phenomenal. 'Tanx' kicks butt. 'Zinc Alloy And The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow' is one of my favorites (to me because of it's totally spledid, far out, nonsense lyrics).
'Electric Warrior' (which includes 'MONOLITH' which gives me chills) is awesome. Another favorite is 'T. Rex' which takes my mind to a mystically beautiful world that I could just crawl into and live in forever. I love 'Zip Gun', 'Futuristic Dragon', 'Dandy', 'Prophets', 'My People Were Fair', 'Billy Super Duper' and all the compilation albums that include the rare singles. Tyranosaurus Rex, T. Rex, Marc Bolan to me is such ENTERTAINMENT!!!
This is from when T-Rex was on a roll. I must give Bill, Steve, Mickey and Tony their credit. Marc proved later he missed his producer and band. He was getting totally back on track before his untimely death.
Lovely - I remember buying the album Tanx on its day of release and loving every track - especially Rapids and Broken Hearted Blues. Simple rock n' roll they may be - but no one else sounded anything like this. Cosmic x

Some of Bolan's best songs were his least known, as this shows (and most of the well-known ones were great). Good to hear it again.

Every note of his guitar solos were charged with a mystical fire!!! They didn't need to be 1000 notes per second to be of 'TRUE GREATNESS'

The first scream that leads into the first guitar solo...just about the greatest rock 'n' roll scream I've ever heard. The timing of it was perfect.
