sounds like a vocoder - difference is, autotune (newer technology) takes your real voice and tightly controls the pitch so you sound "robotic." Vocoder is a box which takes your voice and turns it into a synthesized or electric guitar tone. You have to play the synth or the guitar along with singing. That is '70s tech. Both can sound similar though they work differently
