From what I've researched on the web (trainer blogs and AKC website) they are easier to train than most dogs. However, they are easier to train if they respect their owner as a pack leader. You must show the dog you are the leader and constantly stimulate their need to help you and their need for intellectual stimulation. If they are bored and left alone, they sometimes can be destructive.

They are not the easiest to train (which is being fairly generous).

They were bred for their independence. They can be trained - if it's your first dog, take some classes. And turn heel to any trainer that thinks their difficulty in training is for lack of intelligence.

Winston is beautiful dog with a great name! I have a 12 year old red/white mal named Bronson - he loves ice cream too. The first time he tasted it his eyes opened big and round like a cartoon. 8)

Bruster's Ice Cream has free doggie sundaes. Prety sure they're frozen soy milk and Winston LOVES them, especially when it's hot out. Malamutes don't like these hot GA summers.
