Could someone write here what he says in the beginning of the video? I speak Spanish and do not understand everything that speaks, writes it in English and i will translate it to Spanish
He says that "religious moderates" are extremists because they believe in books that preach violence and whatnot. Deists are religious moderates, and they believe in none of the books that he references. Since we're talking fallacies, this means his entire argument is premised on an unsound assumption. First one to shout "hasty generalization" wins!
This is why unintelligent musicians should just make music and not think that their musical talent gives them some form of philosophical insight.
poor guy, he's obviously real sad- Why else would u wast so much time & energy even to think of a long stupid speach like that. I mean, all the cool people who don't agree with Christians just ignore them & move on, this guy had to take the time to Hate them first, & make a speach about it- I maen it's not our fault his band sucks. By the way I'm a Born again Christian & Jesus Christ is GOD! almighty, Has done wonders in my life- 2.5 years no weed, 1.5 years no alcohol, 5 years no cigarettes!!
@mindlessminion321 speaking of words like "unintelligent" and "hasty," it strikes me as ironic that you fail to recognize that at the beginning of the speech i state that i am explicitly speaking about abrahamic religions in this instance. since deism isn't an abrahamic religion, nor an even moderately socially relevant perspective in the modern world, your argument is the one that is unsound. it must be embarrassing to not being able to differentiate between abrahamic and non-abrahamic, huh?
You say "religion, particularly Abrahamic religion." Perhaps you do not understand the difference between the meanings of the words "explicitly" and "particularly" or perhaps you are hoping that you won't get called out for lying about what you said. You also ignore the fact that Christian deism is a clear example of an Abrahamic religion that rejects the religious books you reference. I'm sorry if my pointing out the ignorance in your bigotry wasn't something you were ready to deal with.
@mindlessminion321 "particularly" is what is known as a "qualifier" and it serves as the lens through which to view the rest of the speech. it is what is called "context" and is reinforced by the further references in the speech that are restricted to abrahamic religion. further, christian deism is not a definitive offshoot of either deism or christianity, it is completely historically and contemporarily irrelevant to any conversation about the general character of religion. keep stretching.
@mindlessminion321 additionally, you are creating a false dichotomy between explicitly and particularly. on top of this, you accuse me of a "hasty generalization" and then trod christian deism out as a defense. this is nonsense because a hasty generalization draws upon an audience that is too small to represent the whole, which is the absolute inversion of what you are suggesting, given that deists don't even tally a fully percentile globally and christian deism is but a small sub-sect of that.
@mindlessminion321 so now you have misunderstood not only the general character of religion, not only logical argumentation, but also the very english language itself. are you done embarrassing yourself yet, or would you like to persist with more non-sequitors and misappropriations in your efforts to paint a benign face upon religion? you are really earning the "mindless" portion of your youtube handle, numbskull.
You've bastardized language, pretended that making a general statement, then narrowing it is the same as making a statement with specificity and misrepresented your own arguments, all in an effort to apply universal judgment to large groups of people with generalizations. You can post as much invective as you like, it does not change the fact that you remain an ignorant bigot trying desperately to justify prejudice.
...and you're kind of an internet warrior, no? 500 words at a time not enough?
reread your post, darling, you have confused yourself. though i admit, it seems you are prone to confusion since you are incapable of understanding that a general statement on religion addresses religion generally, then the specified statement addresses religion specifically. it is called "dynamism" and it is what occurs when an argument develops. you throw out static claims and fallacious arguments, so i'm sure this is lost on you. have fun with your 500 words cliffsnotes philosophy, it's cute
unfortunately, Chris here is making a fallacy of division in which he attributes the parts(or in this case people) to be the same as the whole of the thing(Christianity). Also, simply reading the religious texts is not- enough to get a critical and correct view of what it teaches. I'm not sure that he has met every religious or Christian person in the world in order to have sufficient grounds to claim that they are bigots.
Casadh, you say I made a selective fallacy, what exactly is a selective fallacy? I've never heard of "the selective fallacy". I've heard of others like this, but none with this name. Furthermore, How can you accuse me of any type of fallacy when I myself made no proposition or judgement, as did Chris. Fallacies only occur within terms, propositions, and logical form.
So even if this "selective" fallacy is real, there's no way you can accuse me of something I never said, or without me uttering a proposition. In this case, it is you who are putting some words in my mouth, or so it seems.
Chris is attacking religion based on its religious texts. "Correct view of what it teaches?" Come on, come on, the Bible outright endorses genocide. In fact, Saul's first "sin" was not doing a 100% extermination of a people when he spared that said people's animals. I used to be Christian. I used to be an active apologist for it. I know all of the mental hat tricks, but I also know that they are tricks. If you are smart and honest enough, azambran18, you'll admit this to yourself someday too.
You never told me why I am guilty of the selective fallacy. And further, what that even is. I'd be happy to elaborate on Genocide in the bible, and if God really would command people to do such things. Its an issue of biblical inerrancy, namely, are these specific stories true? Also, you claim that if I'm smart and honest enough then I'll on day see the falsity of the Christian religion, Well I disagree and you are just attacking me not the argument(ad hominem). That is as fallacious as it gets
In the holy bible things such as rape and murder are present (because these are things that happen through out history) but they are not endorsed, find me one quote of jesus that says raping other human beings is good.
fucking fools. you kids say "no gods no masters" but you look up to hardcore/punk bands, no gods no masters my fucking ass, educate yourselves!

He makes a bad inductive argument and the fallacy lies in the generalization.

You are doing a selective fallacy. As Chris points out, every religious text of the Abrahamic religions endorses bigotry, rape, etc.
