The NSU and Citroën wankel was the same (only very light differences), and was buit in the common COMOTOR factory (50/50 alliance between the 2 in 1967 ).
After Citroën was absorbed by PSA and NSU by VAG, the only positive in this adventure was the born of the modern Audi, direct inspired from the Ro80...
such a fabulous continuation of the GS shape, tis s damn shame the frogs saw fit to scrap all those it could wrangle back from the owners. im sure a simple repower could have seen these cars back on the road. such early days of the wankel engine though.... how much in common did they have with the NSU unit???
The previous comment misses the point. The GS Birotor is not "just a car driving away". It has a rotary engine and if you listen to this video with a decent sound system you will hear a very unusual engine sound unlike any ordinary piston engine. You are only listening to the rotary in first gear of the 3-speed semi-automatic gearbox and it must have been approaching maximum revs.
Love that sound!!!!! The GS Birotor, unfortunately was too much quirk, even by Citroen standards. Shattered apex seals, worn housings, cracked rotors, and high oil consumption proved its downfall :( Citroen supposedly used the same "clean room" conditions as their suspension units, to assemble the engines! O__o!!!
God damn this video made me miss my old RX7

Fuel consumption is still a major downside to the rotary piston engine..

@zzf00l Rotary engines have ROTORS, not PISTONS.

The NSU rotary motor had much in common with the GS rotary and they were made in the same factory - if what I have read is correct.
