This song gets passed over a lot because people think the message is generic (aimed at the new generation, fighting conformity, etc). But the song is so personal for Jon. The lyrics talk so much about the light he pursues and that could be faith, his career, or simply his own moral code. I think he wrote the "Hey boy/Hey Girl" lines because he wants to call out for people not to make some of the same mistakes he might have made

Great album (Vice Versus), and this is one of the best songs on it. I like that he's telling girls not to join the anorexic pukeup marathon that is most young womens' lives here in America.
