@Roqy96: I gotta admit that I haven't read any lyrics of them yet, going to check them out. I just get the feeling that Jens could do much better vocally. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with alltime-screaming bands - but the screams sound very one-dimensional here I think. Just a little tiny bit of harmonies(not even clean vocals) could add some interesting textures to the whole think and it would be even more dynamic.

It's like the guitars would play one distorted note ALL the time. If he'd use some different techniques or at least some other registers every now and then, it would be more interesting for sure.

@7Anubisss actually Jens does that on purpose, in order to make it sound more mechanical and sort of "robotic". It's not that he can't put more variation into it, he just chooses not to. I think this way it blends better with the music, as it is heavily percussive and well, it's a big part of what makes Meshuggah Meshuggah :). It tends to be annoying at first but you'll probably appreciate it after some time :)

@7Anubisss Nothing is what got me into them, this song is off Nothing, give that a listen, then Destroy Erase Improve :) Two albums which are stylistically very different, should be enough to get you into them!

@7Anubisss well i first heard "Bleed" from Obzen but really got into them with Nothing (Rational Gaze and Perpetual Black Second particularly). Destroy Erase Improve and earlier stuff is more thrashy, while their later stuff (Chaosphere, Nothing etc) sounds more like what people call "djent" :) So yea, i'd say give Nothing and Catch 33 a try for starters, see if you like it :)

To comment on all of the Portnoy hate going on here, I kinda disagree. He's not a pillar in the halls of the drumming gods (like Haake), but he's not terrible. He has some talent, but most of his drumming is very straight forward and fits perfectly for rock. I don't hate his drumming most of the time, but he's not one of the great drummers of our time IMHO.

Re: tuning. F um..."standard". This is also possible on a normal 6/7 with 25.5" scale. 75-60-46-etc. More treb, less distortion. U can use a stock fender single coil but it will sound like butt.
