2ndly, why had Bruce Lee never mentioned anything about Gene LeBell if Gene really taught him everything about grappling which he later used in his movies? Gene LeBell is a legend... and Seagull actually is a good martial artist.... from what I heard, Seagull showed him how to get out of a choke hold in Aikido, and Lebell said he doesnt do it that way.. so Seagull tried to get out of HIS choke hold after letting himself get in it... and facing a choke hold master like lebel, he was out... its understandable, but it doesnt make him any less of skilled martial artist.

On the set of a multi million dollar movie, if a stuntman tried to show off at the expense of a lead actors well being and that actor was hurt and couldn't continue than that stunt man would be black listed and never hired again.. Millions of dollars are lost.. Who would be held responsible? Choking out a lead actor in a battle of egos is not professional of a stuntman of that notoriety and caliber..
It my understanding that Seagall was claiming that he could successfully defend the choke even after it was applied. He was wrong, twice, as Lebell repeated the process again after Seagall complained the first time that he had not been prepared.
Oldscuff1: If Seagal allowed LeBell to choke him because Seagal wants to feel the choke, then that doesn´t mean that LeBell defeated Seagal in a fight.

For those who doubt Gene LeBell's skills both Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee referred to LeBell as "the toughest man alive." LeBell has trained in everything from judo to catch wrestling to kenpo karate to boxing. The man knows fighting.

People familiar with traditional MMA will know that Gene Lebell is one of the best fighters of the century. He was even made the referee of the Mohammed Ali v Antonio Inoki MMA fight because, even if things got out of hand, Lebell could be relied upon to kick both their asses (despite his age) and get the situation under control.
Seagal might be good, but Lebell is leagues ahead.

Inoki admits trying to get Lou Thesz as the referee cause he was worried Gene would kick his ass if anything cute was tried.

No it has been verified. Seagal was going to sue Gene Lebell but there was an article written about it and Seagal decided suing him would only make him look like more of an ass, so they settled out of court with Lebell swearing he would never speak about the incident or write about it. Others have verified the story though.

What these dummies dont realize is that Lebell is one of the best wrestlers ever he was a judo chamion he knows karate,aikido,wrestling,judo and even when he was older he was still pretty fast for a guy his age and size i have some of his training dvds so i know,its not like it was some normal guy that choked out Steven Seagal it was a verry good and knowledgeble martial artist the guy is like a living encyclopedia of martial art techniques especialy wrestling moves and has real good books.

Gene LeBell is a legend... and Seagull actually is a good martial artist.... from what I heard, Seagull showed him how to get out of a choke hold in Aikido, and Lebell said he doesnt do it that way.. so Seagull tried to get out of HIS choke hold after letting himself get in it... and facing a choke hold master like lebel, he was out... its understandable, but it doesnt make him any less of skilled martial artist.

If any of this is true than where were Seagals bodyguards? On the set of a multi million dollar movie, if a stuntman tried to show off at the expense of a lead actors well being and that actor was hurt and couldn't continue than that stunt man would be black listed and never hired again.. It my understanding that Seagall was claiming that he could successfully defend the choke even after it was applied. He was wrong, twice, as Lebell repeated the process again after Seagall complained the first time that he had not been prepared.

For those who doubt Gene LeBell's skills both Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee referred to LeBell as "the toughest man alive." LeBell has trained in everything from judo to catch wrestling to kenpo karate to boxing. The man knows fighting.
30 years before anyone ever heard of Royce Gracie or the UFC, LeBell fought and won the first televised MMA match in Utah in 1963. He has trained some of the best martial artists out there from Bruce Lee to Chuck Norris to Benny Urquidez to Karo Parisyan.

@barrettokarate It wasn't an actual fight. Seagal wanted to demonstrate that he could escape from a choke but it didn't quite happen lol! Seagal was quite slim back then and I'm sure that if he had of been in his early 50's when he became heavier and stronger then I don't think it would have happened. Also Seagal holds black belts in karate and judo. Seagal also broke Sean connery's wrist when teching him martial arts on the set of Never Say Never Again.

He was even challenged by Rickson Gracie, and in turn Gene challenged Helio Gracie (who refused). Not even Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee were in the same league as Gene (since they weren't actual fighters).

People familiar with traditional MMA will know that Gene Lebell is one of the best fighters of the century. He was even made the referee of the Mohammed Ali v Antonio Inoki MMA fight because, even if things got out of hand, Lebell could be relied upon to kick both their asses (despite his age) and get the situation under control.
Seagal might be good, but Lebell is leagues ahead.

However, Inoki was not allowed to do any takedows or submissions (WTF?!?!?) and couldn't throw any kicks unless one knee was touching the floor, which basically rendered Inoki mostly useless. Yet somehow, Judo still prevailed over the greatest boxer of all time, lol.

All those restrictions were put on Inoki precisely because Ali's camp were worried he would turn it into a real fight, because Ali refused to abide by the pre-planned ending with him at a loss. Inoki admits trying to get Lou Thesz as the referee cause he was worried Gene would kick his ass if anything cute was tried.

Seagal is probably the toughest Hollywood "star" we've seen so far, but Lebell is someone even the best fighters in the world are terrified of. No it has been verified. Seagal was going to sue Gene Lebell but there was an article written about it and Seagal decided suing him would only make him look like more of an ass, so they settled out of court with Lebell swearing he would never speak about the incident or write about it. Others have verified the story though.

As if Seagal would go badass on a 75 yr old man lol! The only reason this probably happened is because Seagal didn't want to hurt an old man and also because he underestimated him. Even if this story is true, who cares? No martial artist is perfect and Seagal is proberbly a better martial artist because of it. Seagal is a Legend!!!

No, he's not. He's at best 18 years behind in martial arts thinking. He still thinks wrestling, grappling, etc. is useless and that you should not even bother learning it. People like you are just jealous of Seagal and you are just so ignorant if you think aikedo is useless. Also his extra weight = more power for breaking your arms. Honestly though, you guys are so far gone when having a discussion about what works in martial arts, to us on the other side of the fence you look comparable to the Kiai master who got beat up because his chi energy balls didn't work on someone who wasn't his student. If it doesn't work in a little-to-no-rules competition like MMA, it definitely will not work in real life.

fact: silva trained with seagal for 1 MAYBE 2 days. fact: after silva trained with seagal even seagal said silva won't have a problem with his next opponent but silva lost the first 4 rounds of his next fight until pulling off a lucky submission for the win that was from BJJ not seagals aikido. so seagal actually made the p4p fighter lose his spot as the p4p great. LOL machida trained with seagal for a day too did machida win his last match? NO. seagal was choked out in 6 seconds oo big surprise

Aikido loses 100 out of 100 times. It is in fact less effective than attempting to use ballet as your fighting style. I was in fact being extremely conservative by giving Seagal that 1 out of 100 chance.

@Ljenkins9000 I would say that the proper martial artist guys can do "something" included aikido masters of course!If there is no rules,that's good,coz almost anybody can be brutal,but not everyone has got extra aikido knowledge!Believe me,lots of martial arts use the same basis techniques included aikido,judo,bushido,whatever!The street fight is good against street fight,but also aikido is good for that if you are well trained in it!I can see what I wrote is not finished......

@Ljenkins9000 So probably you can win against average aikido students,but the aikido starts to be interested from the 5th-6th dan......and I finish the previous one.....so if your enemy can't realize what do you want to do,it means he is not ready just for 1-2 seconds,then you can finish an aikido technique properly,very quickly,easily and effectively...then the enemy will fly in the air-it depents on the technique-and the landing will be very painfull on the floor on the street!xD
