  • thanks for posting!

  • @Soccerchic1097 when he was talking about Nadia Comaneci, he shouldve said 30 years ago because she was basically the symbol of perfection and she competed in 1976. Then when he was talking about Mary Lou, he shouldve said 20 years ago

  • I wished they said the Soviets instead of the Russians. Because Russian and Soviet gymnastics were done by different people and different methods of gymnastics. Still cant believe Pavlova did not get a medal. Where Zhang Nans scores came from i dont think any of us would know.

  • the chinese girl on bars first high bar kip was like a ninja kip :o

  • Yeah. Sveta could've done it when she was younger. but she doesn't have the ability she used too. It doesn't mean that she's not a good gymnast/

  • It's a little hard to see Khorkina not win the gold.... I wanted her to win it so bad. But, her time was Sydney... she was at her peak and was the BEST gymnast there by far. It's unfortunate what happened with the vault in Sydney.

  • Nice job on the video looks good. When you have time come visit my channel!

  • Russia Gold for 20210!

  • @primoarrimo183 20210? ... you have a long wait :P

  • hopefully we kick some chinese and russian butt in 2012

  • Daniela looks a lot like Andreea Raducan.

  • LOL "nearly 20 years ago" - umm nadia was 1976, buddy. try nearly 30 years.

  • @sprinklefriend um...he was talking about mary lou, not nadia

  • Alina Kozich is wearing the most boring leotard! at least wear something that sparkles!

  • Watching Svetlana vault is sooo painful. She is obviously anorexic here. Look at how creepy her legs look in the slow motion and compare that to any other gymnast on the floor. And yes, gymnasts need to be very thin in order to perform all those tricks, but Svetlana is way beyond that. It's too bad because she is a great gymnast and all the kids admiring her today should know that anorexia doesn't pave your way to glory. Who knows, maybe Svetlana would've even been better with a normal weight

  • was carly's vault a 2 twist becuz 9.8 sounds like too low an sv

or is it just a full twist but that sounds too easy for the great carly patterson

  • Al: " . . . defined by Nadia nearly 20 years ago."

    Actually nearly 30, not 20: 2004-1976 = 28, but he got close.

  • god!! look at courtneys heel ouch

  • man, vault is just soooooo hard for me

  • Does anybody happen to know the music used in the very beginning in the competition introduction?

  • @EMTQueen I second that :)

  • Oana Ban had to pull out which is why she is shown in the fluff but isn't competing.

  • Carly was soooo off direction! And she was overscored as well. But I still like her :)

  • Tim is being so hypocritical when talking about the Ukrainian gymnasts. Doesnt he remember the U.S.A teams 'underperformance' (failure) in the 2000 Olympics. I bet he didnt say that they underperformed.

  • Tim is being so hypocritical when talking about the Ukrainian gymnasts. Doesnt he remember the U.S.A teams 'underperformance' (failure) in the 2000 Olympics. I bet he didnt say that they underperformed.

  • Why do they put Oana Ban on the stupid opening fluff, She didnt even comete?

  • did that girl that fell on vault end up gettin a gold?

  • Do you mean the spot were they show Svetlana Khorkina at the 2000 Olympics?

  • Svetlana was three time World AA Champion plus world champion on the bars five times in succession and twice Olympic Champion on bars. She wasn't may favourite gymnast in her three Olympics but she was still amazing and internationally respected. Carly is respect in American and is even more overshadowed by

Nastia, Shawn and Bridget who are all better and more exciting gymnast. Carly was gifted with lack of strong competition especially when beautiful Kozich fell on dismount from the beam.

  • Does anyone know what brand Daniela Sofronie's leotard is? I've been trying to find the online store, but I can't exactly read the symbol on her left hip. Thanks so much in advance.

  • This is definitely a controversial final about who won the goal VS who deserved it more.

  • I hate the dead hang. Beautiful routine though.

  • "All-American ivory snow face" ???

  • I will never understand what people saw in Khourkina... i just don't get it. i thought she looked brittle and awkward, and i have never been fond of watching rhythmic gymnast bodies doing artistic gymnastics skills.

It's like sending an ice dancer into a hockey game, just seems like a bad idea.

But the judges loved her, and she has the medals to prove me wrong. So it must just be me.

  • @skycub99 Yeah me too.

  • Svetlana Khorkina has been a gymnast for 10 years, Carly has only been a few year.Svetlana Khorkina went to three olympics(1996-2004), carly only went to one. Svetlana Khorkina was 25, Carly is only 16. You see what I mean, Svetlana Khorkina is a true legend in the sport.

  • Actually at this time Carly had been a gymnast for 10 years. I think you mean competiting as an international? I think Khorkina AND Carly are both amazing gymansts and both deserve credit.

  • @PLANETIMAGE1 A true legend who has never been an olympic all -around champion. Don't downplay Carly's accomplishment on this day and I won't disparage Khorkina's legendary status.

  • Comment removed

  • If you watch some documentaries about Svetlana Khorkina, You will know what a great gymnast Svetlana Khorkina is.With an unprecedented nine gold, eight silver, and three bronze World Championships medals, Svetlana Khorkina is one of the most successful female gymnasts of her era and has been cited as a fan favorite in various polls in gymnastics magazines. She also won gold in 2003 world championship (beated Carly Patterson). Svetlana Khorkina definitely deserved the gold, but sadly it's silver

  • @PLANETIMAGE1 She didn't win it, therefore, she didn't deserve it. What's so hard about that? You don't deserve a medal you didn't earn simply because you have a great history.

  • what makes u say that? i think khorkina had a good run, she competed in 3 olympics if u remember. and in 2003 she won the world AA title and carly took silver. she also won gold on bars in both 2000 and 1996 and probs a lot more. Carly only got to go to 1 olympic games and then she was through, she probobly doesnt even have half the medals that khorkina has. now i still think that khorkina deserved the silver, but i also think that it was nice to see a change in the standings too

  • pavlova deserved the bronze :/

  • definatly pavlova was amazing, and i hope that she tries to make the 2009 worlds

  • Sadly, she's out of it. Pavlova had a serious knee injury shortly after the Beijing Olympics. She just started training again in August, though, so hopefully it wasn't career ending.

  • God Al gets on my nerves. He says "defined by Nadia nearly 20 years ago," but Nadia got the perfect ten in 1976

    nearly 30 years before 2004.

  • I wished that Sveta won this one.

I route for America but Svetlana is just such an amazing gymnast. Her vault was totally under in my opinion.

  • Carly was fantastic...I just always feel the title belonged to Svetlana...at least once.

Dont misunderstand me,Carly earned this Gold :)

  • amazing that both olympic champions, nastia and carly came from woga :)

  • And Daniela Sofronie comes from the same city as Simona Amanar.

  • The commenter says Carly gets hit hard. She was so not hit hard. She was out of line and out of bounds. She was given a generous score.

  • @jovani2293 I think he was referring to scores in general because most athletes are scoring maybe 9.45+ but she only got a 9.375.

  • @jovani2293 she did get hit hard, but that doesn't mean that they disagree with it. Yes she did get hit hard, it was a lower score, but yes it was fair, they weren't saying that it wasnt.

  • The scores on vault was really a joke in this Olympics

How can Carly manage to get a 9.375 with both feet landed outside the boundary?

    Compared to khorkina's 9.462( 9.9SV!!)

and Pavlova's 9.425( nearly perfect DTY)

  • both feet outside the boundary is a .3 deduction, and if carly's wault was out of a 9.7 and everything else she did was perfect except for maybe one thing that caused a .025 deduction, then a 9.375 she gets

  • Her start value was 9.8 (DTY)

after 0.3 being deducted for landing and a big hop (-0.1)

    it became 9.4

and you think her forms was so perfect that no more than 0.025 should be deducted from her?

    I don;t think so

  • @sososocy Pavlova's vault was beautiful and she deserved higher, she deserved to bronze medal. She was unlucky because this was the only time the Zhang Nan performed that floor routine without stepping out of the area.

  • yea, i gotta say, it's a totally different sport now, we can't even really compare the two anymore. but we all love Nadia regardless. : )

  • cool, thats the same leo that steliana nistor wore at the 2007 worlds.

  • I guess I ought to write Wang Tiantian a letter to let her know that Elfi doesn't like the easy transitions from low to high bar. Elfi didn't say anything in this brodcast, but Wang needs to know it.

  • EVER.

  • its impossible to do that. The scoring system has advanced.

  • I wish they would stop making a such a big deal about Mary Lou Retton. the 84 games were not even fully attended. I doubt that Mary Lou would have won if the Soviet Union was there/

  • It was a miracle she won with Romania there.

  • Whether that's true or not, for Americans it was a big deal. Not only because she was the first AA gold medalist in our history--that's only half of it--but her win also popularized gymnastics here and made it possible for Americans to believe they could be competitive in an Eastern European dominated sport. Without Mary Lou it's very possible later American winners would never have existed, like Shannon Miller, Carly Patterson, or Nastia Liukin.

  • @frostdiamond1 Nastia Liukin would have because she is Eastern European, she is

a gymnastic proto-type too. She is unlike any American gymnast because she looks like she has been taught dance.

  • @Elphabawicked

Well Carly's not gonna be remembered too much either so I guess we need to remember at least on American women gymnast haha [:

  • So bleak about Oana Ban though she was AWESOME!!! Love Romanian gymnasts in general...I don't know if Carly was the best gymnast in 2004 - she was the best on the night, maybe :|

  • she might not have been the best that year but unfortunately its all about who's best on that night. carly just happened to have a good night

  • @anfsurfer19 "Just happened" to have a good night? That might make sense if she'd never won anything. But she got silver against Khorkina at 03 Worlds. It's clear she was capable of high standings. She did not accidentally have a good night.

  • Thank you so much. I've been wanting to see this again for the longest time. I miss Sveta!

  • I wish they would stop mentioning Nadia. Her gymnastics is juvenile compared to now.

  • You are right lady. It's a matter of common knowledge, the basic knowledge you can have at school, if some people are not able to know that, that tells you a lot of their education system.

  • in many countries it is still called Kiev!

  • Sonya Natalia, people are always going to use different names for foreign cities. The French name for London is Londres, the Polish name for New York is Nowy Jork. Same place, different name, depending on which language you're speaking. Chill out.

  • It is so sad the Greek people did not show more support for their Olympic Games.

  • i hate all the drama from NBC. I wish someone would fire those god awful commentators.

  • TOTALLY AGREE - wish they'd shut the f*ck up!!

Other countries are never as dramatic as this. Sorry if I've offended anyone but I don't mean to!

  • Nastia and Shawn are about as physically different as can be. There is no American "type".

  • All Americans are immigrants. Which ones are you referring to?

  • And she was born in Russia.

  • Shawn Johnson fat? In that case, our fat gymnasts beat your skinny ones. Yay for obesity!

  • Maybe I used the wrong word, Fat not fat what I wanted to say was that shawn is to muscular, not slender like Nadia comaneci

  • Comment removed

  • I don;t really think that you can say that most of the Romanian gymnasts have "feminine bodies." Most of them haven't developed what scientifically makes their bodies truly feminine yet. I think that gymnasts with actual feminine bodies are few and far between. I would say that Svetlana Boginskaya was certainly feminine, adn well as Nadia at the 1980 games. Possibly Silivas in 1988 too.

  • Also - I think that Pavlova, Khorkina and Kozich were also feminine at these games.

(Sorry if my English is not proper)

  • he/she meant that they are thin and delicate, not like americans that are not that great bodies for gymnastics....with "frog legs" like Kuppets or or Paterson

  • Perhaps the word choice was improper then. The word feminine does not mean "thin and delicate" but rather possessing features that are essential to the body of a woman.

That is how I understand it anyway. (English is my third language, so sorry for any misunderstanding. I was going off of the definition in my dictionary: befitting or characteristic of a woman especially a mature woman )

  • China has such beautiful form on bars....but those dead hangs, they kill me

  • Why did she show Oana at the beginning fluff? She wasnt (sadly :() competing in the AA due to a foot/ankle injury of some kind or other.

  • Well someone outside the lead group... almost medalled... and should've medalled above Zhang Nan... Anna Pavlova!

  • Why didn't Romania replace Oana with another of their gymnasts? It's not like they've never done so before. Or was it they didn't have another gymnast they considered an all-arounder? Just curious...

  • Only Oana and Sofronie did all four events in the qualification. The rest of the Romania team was made up of specialist in 04.

  • Khorkina has a Michelle Kwan type of essence in that she didn't need that mythical AA medal to make her mark- she was already a legend in the sport without it!

  • yay for the vault not being dumb

  • ♥ koolio

  • carly looks like amanda bynes

  • wow i had almost forgotten about the old scoring system lol

  • me too!

i like the new scoring system better.

  • nicely said =]

  • she looks beautiful with long hair and having it down :)

  • Her head is actually as big as her neck - seriously they're the same size

  • yes you are so right

  • tonight is the 2008 olympics womens all around. i am soooo excited to see what nastia and shawn do. im watching this to refresh what happened to carly in 2004, and that was amazing =]

  • Agreed!

  • shawn johnson gets second, nastia 1st and yang liin (sp) wins 3rd

  • carly is amazing!!!!

  • How old is Khorkina during these olympics?

  • She was 25 back then. You can check at 12:29. A true veteran. :-)

  • pokeyartfun22 I think it may be tough skin, It makes your hands stick to things

  • Khorkina is a great gymnast i love watching her perform its no wonder shes done so well in her career. But being from the USA i gotta love Carly and Courtney!!! USA USA USA USA!!!. BEIJING HERE WE COME! :).

  • AAAHHHHH Khorkina's vault's. GROSS! worst form EVAAAR!

  • Not exactly. Check out the 2004 europeans AA videos - that's where she completely messed up her vault.

  • I know. Wrong vault for her. But she is pretty good for her body type.

  • Thanks for posting!!!!!

  • what are they putting on their arms?

  • chalk

  • I think Patterson's leo shows too much of her butt.

  • wait isnt the chinese girl in the beginning named Zhang Nan not Nan Zhang??

  • It's Zhang Nan if said the way a Chinese would say it and Nan Zhang if you're more comfortable with the surname (Zhang) coming last.

  • who is that other woman talking in khorkinaas montage??????? the freckled red haired one...who is she???????

  • Her sister, Yulia, who is also a gymnast. You can find some videos of her here.

  • I hate Nan Zhang's leo!

  • romania is the best

  • yep :) we had a great team in athens!

  • Thank you so much for all of your video uploads!

  • You know...Sveta ddn't look so good that night.....She almot looked a little sick, emaciated....truly I think she was not on top of her game....if she would have been, her grace and won favoritism would have got her the gold!

  • A little makeup would have been made her look better

  • who?

  • Svetlana Khorkina

  • i think the cheng fei might be the biggest winner at beijing... she's great on floor, vault and beam... she could win the all around...

  • Her performance at Worlds this year wasn't great though. But she is good on pretty much every apparatus.

  • she's not doing all around apparently, she's going for the team and then the vault and floor finals, but she'll compete beam as well

  • It's a shame she's not going to compete in the all-around

  • I can't wait for Beijing 2008. Who will be the next protagonist?

  • that's an excellent question, i'm thinking it'll be nastia or shawn, but who? WHO? i'm personally excited to see how hopfner hibbs does.

  • I wanna see Pavlova on the podium this time.

  • def def

  • LOL, whoever was narrating the fluff at the very beginning didn't check his dates. He said that perfection was defined by Nadia Comaneci nearly 20 years ago. This was in 2004; Nadia did her magic at the 1976 Olympics, nearly THIRTY years ago.

  • thanks for all of these im nt gna comment on each one wud take ages ! all these gymnasts are fantastic i lv watchin this , thanks

  • i think sofronie is cute.lol.

  • thanks for uploading this!

  • you ar very good nanquan

  • It's nice to see this back!! tnx for posting!

  • at least i dnt bot carly fish face and support a true gymnast ((the women;s world champ on bar this yr actually))GOD -I INSULTED HER-GET OVER IT!!!

  • I don't really care that much to be honest.. I just think it's sad that the only way you have for showing support for Beth, who is a fine gymnast, is by slagging off other gymnasts which are just as good. Do you have any idea how much hard work and determination it takes to reach those levels of gymnastics? I just think you should show a little more respect, and not come off as being so immature.

  • thank you nanguan!!!

  • I admire you for this.

  • Cheers for posting this! I haven't seen this in it's entirety since it aired 3 years ago!

  • Glad you enjoyed :)

  • is there any way we can get this on a dvd?????

  • Do you have the mens' individual AA final?

  • Unfortunately not on my PC.. only on video tape

  • aha
