Roger Taylor was quoted as saying something along the lines of Hot Space sounding like an album you would hear if you were in a gay bar, but the truth is that the album sounds very similar to some of the RNB coming out during that time and also inspired Michael Jackson to create a little album known as "Thiller" so i think Hot Space should get more credit, most the songs on the album are great.

ironic...in 1982, i came to found out since i was kid then, HOT SPACE was bashed by critics and fans. i heard the whole album about two months ago for the first time ever...and guess what? this album is ONE OF THEIR BEST! simple as that. and i am starting to think that fans and critics alike , 30 years later, have started to have the same opinion now. HAIL FREDDY!
You can see that 2 out of 4 Queen members are really enjoying this song. Roger is obviously wishing he hadn't agreed to this album in those shots just before his solo. Freddie looks classy in his tracksuit though :D

I love Queen, they are my favourite band and have been since I was about 3... but the strength of the band was in rock music and, like in Body Language, they all seem largely uncomfortable in this, apart from Freddie. But hey, how can you ascend to the heights without tasting the bottom rung of the ladder from time to time?

@etolpygo Roger used a set of electronic drums. He did play (they did it live), but he just couldn't use his drum set. That may be why he didn't like it. It just doesn't seem like Queen to exclude one of the band members, they all contributed. That's why I immediately searched that.
I like Hot Space and Back Chat is my favourite track on the whole album. I see this as a bit on a concept album for Queen, and lets face it, there was a lot of weird music going on in the 80's. People should not be dismissive of this era in Queens development, after all they followed it up with the excellent Kind of Magic and it was just before their famous appearance at Live Aid
I always thought John was the best Bassist ever due to how it fits perfectly, no matter what the song or video, he is flawless and it's difficult to match your bass up exactly and Deaks is spot on every time...
@Darkyodajedi Plus one thing about John, he's one of the only bassist I know who comes up with his own lines in songs that fit it so well rather then just following along with a simple rhythm.

I love Queen, they are my favourite band and have been since I was about 3... but the strength of the band was in rock music and, like in Body Language, they all seem largely uncomfortable in this, apart from Freddie. But hey, how can you ascend to the heights without tasting the bottom rung of the ladder from time to time?

Here is what I see happening in this video:
Freddie: *grooving to John's song*. workin' those poles, baby.
John: both glad that Freddie likes the song and amused by his antics.
Brian: hating John's song, John, the set, Freddie's writhing, Freddie, pop music, and the fact that he's been dragged into making a pop album with these losers. At least, later he gets to say, "I told you so" when the album largely flops.
Roger: most likely drunk.

@etolpygo Oh and by the way, Brian actually liked this song, as you can see when he starts smiling at Freddie's dancing, it was Roger who hated the video and he made his dislike obvious when he stated so, although I don't know why because his little drum solo is pretty cool!

@etolpygo Roger used a set of electronic drums. He did play (they did it live), but he just couldn't use his drum set. That may be why he didn't like it. It just doesn't seem like Queen to exclude one of the band members, they all contributed. That's why I immediately searched that.

I like Hot Space and Back Chat is my favourite track on the whole album. I see this as a bit on a concept album for Queen, and lets face it, there was a lot of weird music going on in the 80's. People should not be dismissive of this era in Queens development, after all they followed it up with the excellent Kind of Magic and it was just before their famous appearance at Live Aid

I always thought John was the best Bassist ever due to how it fits perfectly, no matter what the song or video, he is flawless and it's difficult to match your bass up exactly and Deaks is spot on every time...
