A year ago I was started on vicadin for a cartilage wasting disease then I switched to percocet then oxycontin and percocet. I ended up abusing the oxycontin because my pain was so severe and eventually turned to heroin. After five months on heroin I was sick of my addiction so I got into a methadone clinic. I am dual disorder with severe anxiety and I take blood pressure medication and a very high dose of klonopin. Im now 11 days off methadone and I think god every day that im still here.

I was at about 100mg and took some Xanax a bottle of wine. Had done this a million times with no ill affect but this time was different. Fell asleep and when I awoke I couldn't see. Made it to an emergency room and found out that I had a stroke. Methadone was a ball n chain for me. A few years clean in a 12 step program helped me when I kicked Methadone. I had been on it for 6 years maxing out at 150mg. It's hard to find help as detox for MD tougher then heroin. Faith in God got me thru. FAITH!

my 13yr old cousin died after taking a teaspoon full, the methadone was his mothers boyfriends, he left it in plain view & reach, he took it & an hour later he was in his bed making strange noises, like heavy snoring, he was foaming at that mouth & his 7yr old sister found him, he was prenounced dead when paramedics arrived.... he would have been 23 now... the boyfriend only got 5yr in jail, NOT LONG ENOUGH, we have to walk past him daily in town, but we cant do a thing. Doesn't anyone have enough sense to use narcan?! It reverses the effects of methadone! If a "doctor" doesn't educate himself about methadone, he has no right to prescribe it. There is no excuse for a person dying while hospitalized because of a methadone overdose! The doctor, not the drug is the culprit!

I couldnt watch the whole thing i have lost 2 of my friends from it (and 2 from other drugs) and i take 40mg a day from my doctor for the past 8 months for a herniated disk but my next appointment i am going to ask my doctor to help me quit it thanks to this video

I am so sorry for the loss of all the loved ones. Methadone maintenance clinics that prescribe it for addicts have been around for over 50 years now. They were and still are strictly regulated. Until pain clinics began prescribing methadone, there were very few methadone deaths. I would like to see all pain clinics that prescribe methadone shut down. I'm tired of the medication that saved my life being misused and abused and getting such a bad reputation.

I have been using it for at least 4 years , it does wonders for chronic pain.

The key is to take it exactly as prescribed , do not take an extra, I take 30mg a day, they should make it more obvious that it works slow but it works for a long time , I too overdosed when I started ,thanks to my vigilant wife, I too would be dead

Methadone is more addicting than heroin. I don't get it; if you are trying to come clean from heroin, why would you take something more addicting. I was prescribed methadone and I refused to ingest it. I cleaned up cold turkey and I feel that way was a better alternative than methadone. I have been clean now for 18 years.

I take 10mg 4 times day. Serious back injury. I hate that it hurts to come off this stuff. Brother, Dad died over methadone. I'm married.I know it's from back pain. The doctors say I take a very low dose so I'm safe. I also take Tambocor for prior cardiac arritmyias, Klonopin for myoclonus. Atenelol. Methadone should only be given to those who are tolerant. And methadone actually last for 24 hours straight, that is why it is easier to die. It takes 2 hours to kick in on site and then keeps going throughout the next few hours.

If someone is taking other drugs or they are a fast/slow metabolizer that might make the difference of what is "felt" by the user. The misconception that it only stays in your system for 24 hours is what is killing people. The drug is ACTIVE long after the user stops feeling it's effects

Have you talked with his Dr. about switching to suboxone if he is methadone for addiction? Or switch to another narcotic that is not as unstable? (shorter half life) Perhaps an addiction specialist can give you the BEST advice....please call your local services and they can get you to someone right away!!! Good Luck!
