They might not hunt when they're in control of a pride, but that's because they're conserving energy for when they go on patrol or help bring down a kill too big for just the Lionesses.

I'm not being a Lion fan here, its a popular misconception that Male Lions are lazy versions of Lionesses. They're the most powerful predators in Africa.

Tigers have to avoid confrontations as their loner mentality would mean death if they can't hunt from an injury. A male lion has the pack to hunt for him, so they can concentrate on just protecting the pack which is fighting.
