  • The graphics look shitty even for 1998. There were so many good 3D engines around at that time if I remember correctly. She needs to work with video game experts to make the proper product, otherwise she's wasting all that good research

  • shes a nazi

  • a good idea but she is a litl bit of a cunt

  • What a shitty fucking game.

    What a stupid fucking woman.

  • Many TED talks are brilliant, some are good, other are so-so

..and a few fill me with utter disgust.

This piece of sexist drivel is one of those few.

I especially hate the part, where she accuses anyone who disagrees with her, as being sexist (while shedding some crocodile tears).

She has an utterly misguided view of what girls like, and how and how much, girls and boys differ.

Also games aren't mainly made for boys. Most of them are made for men.

And some are made with females in mind too.

  • I dont think Rockstar need to be too worried:) I wouldn't class this as a videogame either but a cartoon with passenger seat interaction. Wont be seeing this on a Ps3 anytime soon lol

  • Why is she encouraging seperatism between boys and girls?

    This seems counter-productive to me

  • liberals are sick..

  • Nothing is worse then a fool that thinks themself wise. Fuck this bitch.

  • The sorts of games that more girls like - and it isn't consistent - tends to RPGs. Final Fantasy, Tales of Symphonia, Suikoden, etc. Games that probably were targeted towards boys, but are gender neutral enough that they are loved by women just as much (and if the slash community has anything to say about it, MORE). And there are plenty of girls, too, who play Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Left 4 Dead, and whatnot. Even fewer girls like Barbie and kitten games, so I'm pretty sure you failed, milady.

  • A lot of these posts sound like 2nd grade boys: "That's lame! It's for GIRLS!"

Yeah, some girls played PC and console games (I was one of them). But that group appears to be the minority. Maybe that's b/c young girls (like young boys) can be hyper sensitive to gender roles. Whatever the reason, young girls are not as computer savvy as young boys, and that should trouble the feminists here. Give the girls a game that gets them used to the computer. They seem to like it. What's the harm?

  • all games are for boys and girls.

    Games for girls is bullshit

  • that game looks so boring

  • I think the problem with this isn't that they're trying to make (or WERE trying to make--how's Mattel been treating you guys, Ms. Laurel?) games to cater to young girls. It's a problem that these games are billed as GIRL games. As if these are the only kind of games that girls could possibly enjoy.

I played Purple Moon games as a little girl. But I also played games like Suikoden and Silent Hill. Not all girls are made alike, so calling the genre "games for GIRLS" is counterproductive.

  • maybe you should interview girls who like video games to see what they like about them...i went to purple moon and it looks like you made virtual barbies. with my experience girls like RPG's and coop games..take a look at RE5 and Champions of Norrath.

  • I think girls should only play games where they cook and clean up the house too.

  • I think you should hang you;re self ^^.

  • "We've touched several hundreds of thousands of little girls."

Oops. Should have thought that one through a bit more, Brenda.

  • If it's decisions, jeez give the girls a Bioware game, get Bioware to make one more DS RPG.

And have the gender option of coursse

  • Ok this is wack... I am a girl who love to play VG and i hate games where you run around with a puppy or something and dress them up lol. I love GTA God of War and the LoZ games. Kingdom hearts is a swet game. Facebook isnt a game lol. You cant pick what girls like to play them they selfs pick of what they wanna play.

  • Do you think there might be girls that are different to you?

  • so you're saying girls need to play thet stuiped dress up a puppy game. Yes everyoene is dfferent DUH but why do girls only have to have the stuped dress up a puppy girly girl game!

  • Did I say that girls need to play "thet stuiped dress up a puppy game." or "girls only have to have the stuped dress up a..."?

    No, I did not.

What I said was that some girls might be different to you and like the "dress up a puppy game" instead of the "whack him with an axe game" a boy might be interested in.

  • I always found games aimed @ girls very condescending & steered clear.I think the 1st game I played & had no problem with it being more marketed towards women was probably The Sims.that was because it didnt force fluffy sickeningly girly stuff down my throat. Boys games dont have everything coloured blue or have graphics hugely male dominated, they make there graphics as realistic as possible. It was when Girls games did this rather then being biased I started playing them

  • I agree entirely. People seem to only notice Duke Nukem and GTA when they talk about games for boys. I played Quest for Glory, Civilization 2, Master of Orion 2, Baldur's Gate, Legend of Zelda, Harvest Moon, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night when I was younger. Although most of these games require me to be male, most of them do not scream testosterone into the players face. They are just really good games that appeal to my particular tastes. Girls deserve the same, and it may even overlap.

  • super metroid! female character and a damn good game.

  • Maybe the concept of video games for girl s is useless, maybe a video game for girl would look like facebook and be much less interactive and satisfactory

  • Its possible that one sort of game for girls would look like facebook, although I don't consider facebook to be less interactive. Facebook is very interactive and collaborative. But I think there is another assumption here we need to address if we ever want to make valid video games for girls.

We assume that there would be a type of 'girl's game', as opposed to girl's games- plural. There are multiple types of games for boys to play, why should there be one type of games for girls?

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Okay, at 12:30 the presenter takes a shot at critics by arguing that her critics want violent games and nothing else. Maybe if she looked at little known titles like The Sims, Animal Crossing, and Spore- she would see that violence isn't all that gamers look for, they look for good games.

Maybe if she looked back at the construction of Sierra and LucasArts adventure games, she might see something that could make her games actually games instead of story time.

  • I agree with your tastes, but she's right about the need being unfulfilled in the industry. Her games are crap, but we can make good games on the concept. Like Tideland: The Video Game!

  • I agree completely. The need is there and unfulfilled, and she is very admirable for attempting to fill it. I am concerned about her point of view regarding why people play games and the actual product she has created. Her motives are excellent.

boldkitten hits the nail on the head. Games designed for girls reek of condescension, much like games designed to 'teach skills'. The speaker asked the girls what they wanted, but never asked the programmers how much they could do with those desires.

  • 10:45 is where you actually get to see her video game.

Its a sad flash animation thing. It isn't really a video game at all. It's multiple choice story that occasionally allows the player to make decisions.

But not even real decision- the player decides not what to do, but how they feel. Because its important to teach girls they have less choice than boys.

If girls want in their games to be like life- then give them an adventure game! One where they can actually play, instead of listening.

  • I think her problem is that I keep getting the vibe from this speaker that she is looking at video games as a method (and only as a method) for improving girl's computer skills. She's trying to find the spoonful sugar to make the medicine taste good. Last time I checked, people played video games because they were fun- the learning was incidental. I'm highly suspicious of her ability to succeed when she is being so deceptive and manipulative to the people she says she wants to serve.

  • "We've touched several hundreds of thousands of little girls."

    LOL ew

  • Why are all the top-selling videogames aimed at little boys? LITTLE? FUCKING LITTLE? DO I LOOK FUCKING LITTLE TO YOU?

  • Omg, you think so? That's soooo cute!

  • i got really scared at about 6:50 and on. ahhhhhhhhhhh

  • That woman is really creepy. Somebody should call the police before she hurts a little girl...

  • Because its against the law to be 'a little creepy'.

  • Is it just me, or does she sound REALLY bitter?

  • yeah, she does. I mean, the whole time, she just sits there legs crossed with a scowl on her face like she doesn't even want to be there. She might be sick though in this vid, since she does take odd pauses and seems washed out and a bit out of breath.

  • I just couldn't get over the air of disdain I detected in her demeanor, especially when she was talking about the boys vs. girls video games, you know what I mean? Her attitude totally ruined this presentation for me.

  • Know what you mean, Softy.

Seems like she didn't get any good computer game in her childhood and now she needs to prove she knows more about little girls than anybody else.

Nonetheless, I still think it's a good talk, and it's nice to see people aiming for girls on games. We all know girls like you (who love Halo 3) are the exception.

  • People tend to when they see what they perceive to be a massive injustice.

  • In my time I have enjoyed the thrill of drug dealing in GTA, shooting zombies in silent hill, collecting rings in sonic while also making sushi in cooking mama. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is, it does NOT need to be made especially for girls, are we so inferior? Have our brains been somehow altered so that we cannot enjoy a game the same way a boy does? That just does not make sense. And does that mean that a game for girls cannot be played by a male?

  • Exactly! I enjoy Halo 3 as much as the next video gamer...I actually would hate a game made "just for girls".

  • that's right, FPS games FTW!

  • Exact quote from 6:22

"We've touched several hundreds of thousands of little girls."

That statement was not well chosen. But it was funny nonetheless.

  • The problem with making games for girls is it's the same as making games for boys... only less profitable because boys are a more developed market.

You'd best served by making games that appeal to anyone regardless of gender.... assuming you're trying to open markets.

This is why I know who Shigeru Miyamoto is and never heard of Brenda Laurel before.

  • 6:20 "We've touched hundreds of thousands of little girls"

  • Wow, booooooooorriiiiinngggg. She sits the entire time!

Talk about the results, not the boring as shit specific research details.

  • I was a little girl and played video games completetly at ease at the time she held this talk.

I mean, is Zelda and Sonic for boys only or what?

  • Sure, you and many other girls played more hardcore games as children. Many many other girls, though, didn't.

Many girls don't have any contact with games in their daily lives, because of prejudice, lack of familiarity, whatever. She's talking about games for the plenty of girls who are not gamers. Sure, looking from the games previews in this video they weren't all that high quality games, but apparently her target audience was looking for the experience rather than the technical specs.

  • 5 stars just for Rockett's Tricky Decision - I loooved the fuck out of that game when I was younger. Don't really give a shit about all the blah blah blah.

  • when is rocket armagedon coming out?

  • THERE IS NO GIRL GAMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I actually watched the whole thing. I am honestly surprised that this woman is actually making games, as opposed to hunting them down and burning them. She represents the Jack Thomas train of though and puts it into a new spin. Rather than calling for an outright ban on games she seeks to change the fundamental experience of gaming for a select portion of gamers. Little girls DO play video games, and not this poorly animated and horribly written garbage.

  • DO or DID play video games. She's talking about 10 years ago and I played purple moon while my brother played on his sega genesis.

  • 10 years ago, fair enough. Times have changed. 10 years ago I can see that, now girls play the same games boys do. The Sims, Mario, Little Big Planet, just to name a few. The question I have for you is do you STILL play computer/video games EB88? If so which, and if not why? I am just curious.

  • Well while I'm in school I feel too guilty to play video games, but as soon as the semester is over in 2 weeks I'm buying a new video card and playing the new tomb raider game, finishing final fantasy iii for my nintendo ds, and also goofing around with crayon physics from time to time.

I mostly get handy downs from my brother, so he gives me his old consoles but I'm too embarassed to admit some of the really old rpg's I'm playing.

  • Dont be embarassed. Some of the older ones are the best. You have a DS, so I reccomend getting Chrono Trigger. Hands down one the best RPG games ever made, originally came out on the SNES, then the PS1, and now the DS.

  • Haha well he gave me FF9 to try, cause I used to just watch him play since it was his "toy." Oh I also played Heavenly Sword my last summer break. It's so hard!!!

But honestly when I was 10-12 I was playing like Barbie Fashion Show (where you can design her clothes on the computer and print them out) and Barbie Movie Maker. So don't you go dissin Barbie games too.

  • This lady has just wasted 120 seconds of my time, she would be one of those mccain voters.

  • Little girls play video games nowadays? Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeird

  • Not only is this chick biased, but she's too wordy. I'm like three minutes into this and she hasn't gotten to the fucking point. Also, I think this game is ancient, the description says this is from 1998.

  • This is stupid, and sexist.

Her attitude towards regular games is despicable, and her image, of how girls are supposed to be, is very narrow-minded, biased and distorted.

...not to mention her attitude towards anyone who criticizes her.

Also, she presents her arguments, in a very dishonest manner. That points at her judgement and/or honesty, being highly suspect.

In other words: She is a seriously unreliable source.

  • This bitch is stupid, and full of shit. She is a poor representative of her gender. If you want to see a competent female video game developer, check out the girl that was in charge of making Assassin's Creed, cuz she's spot on.

  • And she wreaked of smugness after that garbage video game trailer. If she knew ANYTHING at all about video games, regardless of it's intent towards gender, she would know that what she is advertising is TRASH. This woman is possibly retarded. Can we get this video banned from youtube? And this woman banned from society?

Don't enter into a world (gaming community) you know nothing about and make up facts about what doesn't exist.

  • Gah! Theres a HUGE market for video games directed towards girls.... little girls and older girls. This is shameless advertising for what looks like the most boring piece of trash, ever.

  • Why do we need girl zombies? Who will cook for us while we are playing our games?

  • lol Final Fantasy games and Kingdom Hearts pleases both Male and Female Genders =D haha

  • hahaha... well i didnt even get to that part because this is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... boring lol

  • At 6:20, she said "We've touched hundreds of thousands of little girls." Haha.

  • Hey girls, if real-life doesn't have enough drama, play Brenda Hates Susie: Cosmo Edition!

Sounds like this bitch is trying to dupe young girls into a market that doesn't exist (for profit, of course). Statistics show that girls like casual games, usually puzzle, adventure etc that don't require 20hr missions and character progression; non-serious games with low learning curves & reaction time. Let the market be

  • girls have more need for social interaction i notic that with my little sister she doesnt mind being busy on the computer but only if it is to chat whit other poeple

  • I think girl are better at playing games than boys... Just a shame that their games are often people.

  • Ugh, kind of threw up listening to this talk. I feel like they are trying to make girls more delusional than they all ready are. Games are suppose to to be fun and entertaining. You know like being lvl 75 on RS or Wow. Stuff that makes no sense and leaves the game world to the game world. Not figuring out how I would feel if I didn't get invited. Why play a game about your issues to let them tell you want you want to hear, instead of actually living your life and getting a real answer.

  • A lot of you are misunderstanding. ***The target age she's talking about is 8-12*** that's not generally a time when girls will play violent video games. I was 10 when I used the Purple Moon website, it was popular because it acted like facebook and you could safely make friends from around the world. The stories were very beautifully written and illustrated, it was a positive and inspiring website. The reason why they folded is because the products were not sold in stores, only online.

  • hate to tell you different... the sims franchise is geared to girls... HEAVILY. I played the sims online... 100-1 female to make ratio.

  • I know. plus sims is better that this fuckin shit

  • Most of the girls don't like video games. This woman it's crazy, shut up! Lol

  • 6:20 kills me

  • rofl

  • lol

  • If you want games for girls the only way to achieve this is to get some of the female gamers to take up game design. Research is valuable, but unless you intuitively understand what appeals to your audience it's all hit or miss.

Personally I'd love to see what women designers could do for the RPG genre.

  • Hey, some of the best gamers IN THE WORLD are girls. lol

  • sucks.

Sorry for no points backing up why, but...

    sucks.

  • Purple Moon was acquired by Mattel in 1999. Laurel wrote a book about that experience entitled Utopian Entrepreneur.

and what does this tells us?

This comment was considered 'spam' the first time. Funny, I thought it was factual.

  • This one is messed up, i am hardest of the hardcore, and i know that there are plenty of games that have been created for females, plenty of hot girls at my school play Halo 3 and COD 4 on XBOX LIVE

  • As a scientist I appreciate her incredible thoroughness, but I think she is trying to deduce more than is possible from her studies. I doubt that the games she proposes will have a positive effect on girls or that girls will really be attracted to those games.

  • ummmm not everyone likes imposed paradigms, not every girl is from south cal.

and you forgot about the revolution that mario bros created, the cute factor did attract girls.

    jerk

sounds similar to what neil gaiman says about women in comics, with the advantage that he has written material that appeals to girls, to both genders in fact. And the non gender defined.

  • Wee ones shouldn't be playing this lady's shit, they should be playing point and click adventure games!

I don't know if there are any left...

  • There are plenty around and more being made as I type this.

    Try googling.

  • Oh my god!!! I remember purple moon! I wanted to buy the games but those were the days when people weren't comfortable yet with buying stuff online and my parents wouldn't buy me the games :( but the website was the best part, even today I haven't seen such a complicated and fun website it was the best.

  • 6:21 lol haha

  • She assumes two fallacies here.

    1) That all male gamers and creators think the same way.

and, 2) That she is right.

Briefly, 1, there are many men who don't like the tomb raider characters, and there are many people who play more games then just the factory cut FPS. Decision games have been around forever, RPGs and they're geared towards both sexes.

2, just because you put in the time to research does not mean that you have the most correct data. Not all girls want the exact same thing.

  • vorcil, it seems you're only thinking about the end result: you and your niece playing Halo and having a lot of fun. But the subject here is not the end result, but how to achieve it. What Laurel and her peers were doing in _1992_ was a market research, for God sakes! It was a fact back then that the video game market was focused on male clients. They spotted a blank space and worked on it. The first research is always very rough, it's a first step after all. It's a never ending development.

  • If your niece and other girls/ women like Halo nowadays it's because through continuous research and application certain appealing elements were introduced to such games; be it by their cultural background or massive media influence, personal taste is not isolated from external influence. It's way more sophisticated now than just using pink or guts and guns all over the packaging, really.

  • Well, there's Wii... Music...

  • womens like games that play with they emotions daaaaa and men whit ability, war sports babes

and if there are real people in the games the better for womens and girls

  • there were guys on the purple moon website too.

  • probably they are gay or confuse kids or something else weird.

and wtf why you get angry by my coment?

  • I think we should give females more credit and say that they probably don't need games specifically designed for them. Video games are something that seems more culturally acceptable for males than for females. Yes, both sexes think differently, but not that much, not so much that they would need a game designed specifically for them.

  • That game looks boring

It looks like a game designed based on a thousand interviews and not based on a fun idea.

And...why games "for boys" can be fun, and games "for little girls" should be educational??

  • "we've touched several hundreds of thousands of little girls". I knew there was something a little odd about her line of research, but damn...

  • The kids visit pruple moon "one and a half times a day" !!

.... and this is TED :p

Not in any way intend to discounts the merit of all the good work , Brendas has put into project Purple Moon.

  • "a certain flavor of feminist." haha

  • She is reminding me of Madeline Kahn. In voice and delivery, not in content.

  • Rocket 28? The roman numerals were XVIII.

    Pffft. Women.

  • Yeah, it should be noted that this was from 1998, it makes it more significant back then. I just think the vid is a bit dull because of her delivery, she seems a bit sarcastic and really tired. Still, a decent TED talk and something different for once.

  • this was a dull talk, ted.

  • I don't know whether to laugh or cry. She's degrading and generalizing half the world's population with comments like "how can we give a little girl the comfort with the technology that little boys have because they play videogames?". Congratz. And it doesn't matter it was in 1998, it still sounds ridiculous.

  • I like how all these 'smart' leaving comments haven't noticed that this is TED 1998..so most of the arguments and questions you raised weren't relevant at that point.

  • Kind of bizarre seeing this; most TED-talks are about contributing to the "greater good" - this on the other hand was alot like "So, I noticed noone was exploiting little girls in the gamingindustry"...

  • "So we're real and we've touched several hundreds of thousands of little girls."

    Also heard at NAMBLA, amirite.

    D:

  • lol

  • Poor attempt at a joke there. First of all if that is all you get out of these talks why do you listen? Second, the line you quoted included "touched sever hundreds of thousands of little girls". Since NAMBLA is the man BOY love association your statement makes no sense.

  • Yeah, you're right. I missed that one.

Other than that, why would you assume this is all I get from them? I have that type of humor. I find these things funny. Being patronizing and snobbish only makes you look even more ridiculous than me and my tasteless jokes. Thanks for trying to call me on it though. I appreciate being corrected by petty people on the internet.

But now that I think of it I didn't get much more out of this talk. It was amateur hour anthropology to say the least.

  • "Reviewers that give negative reviews certainly don't like children." lol

  • that was kinda dumb.

  • She didn't have to spend 2 years studying it. I can tell you the reason girls don't like games; it's because the male brain is wired for spatial thinking (hunter gatherer instincts) and games excel in presenting players with new spatial puzzles to satisfy spatial thinking. Female brains are wired for emotional thinking (child nuturing), and the world already has plenty of emotional puzzles, so emotional games would be redundant and inferior to the real thing. PS - stop selling stuff at TED!

  • why isn't she screaming about too few men talking with each other on Facebook or other social portals?

Instead she is advertising her product using TED...

  • This was assenine and tragic. Is supplying girls with targeted products humanistic? I am saddened that intelligence is being spent, and asked for, in this regard. This was banal infomecialism of the worst order and reflects our modern detachment and consumerist degenereation.

  • she fails to understand the point of video games

  • I think the entire theme of FFX-II is "GIRL POWER", so accusing video games of being sexist is kinda ignorant, and maybe this old lady (who is probably not a gamer) should not be making such claims.

  • the presentation is from 1998........

  • Just because most girls don't play games doesn't mean that video games are targeted primarily towards boys. There are a lot of rpg's that contain soft-hearted emotional stuff that little girls like, but most girls are interested in different things.

  • This talk sucks ass.

  • Males enjoy sports more than females, yet female sports are given equal funding at universities

  • I know I'd never buy something like that, but then, I'm a guy. I want a game that lets me compete and beat the crap out of someone else. Girls, on the other hand, are much more group and emotion oriented, and games like this would probably appeal to them.

  • They prefer games that let you emotionally beat the crap out of someone else with words ;]

  • get off the computers and make me a sammich bitch, men are playing.

  • this is vary interesting but i don't under stand why are they doing this.

    looks like health & dare

    Children don't like me

    thinking out loud!:

I'm a girl and i play games.. but when i play i don't talk about how i am i talk about the game and how was the latest person how shot me. i get shot a lot XD. you don't ch you just need a brother in my opinion. i don't like the games they come out that are directed towed girls. i really don't want to tack care of things. i like halo because I'm a noob.

  • Well why do girl gamers brag so much?

Maybe that's why, I mean I don't mind girls playing, but it's just that our base in BF2 is being freggin attacked and all half of the team talks about are how they're girls, women, and sh*t, wtf? I'm playing video games to leave bitching and whining and play a game.Shit.

  • that was so funny i really cant believe you guys did that and have de guts to put that stuff out here for the public to see gotta give u props.

  • 1998? Relevance?

  • Um...

    This vid is from 1998.

Pretty mush all that existed back then was shmups, platformers, puzzle games. The only game for girls was like Barbie's Happy Adventure or w/e.

  • I got a better idea. Find out what girls actually WANT to do and stop trying to make them play video games.

  • Thank you, girls that do play video games, can't stop bitching and bragging. 0_0

    Video games are man's escape.

  • Yeah this video is interesting for the time it was made but I think that video games are improving and more women are starting to play video games, which is awesome. Most of my girl / friends love to play Guitar Hero/ Rock Band, WoW for a small amount of examples (Or any other MMO like Warhammer's new MMO). I agree that games should be for anyone. I see more women playing games more now than when i was 13 :p.

  • Wow, LovzaNo, you aint going to be getting any girls if thats how you think ... :)

  • Get in the kitchen and make, MAKE ME SOME PIE!

  • *burps* Nah, actually guys who get the girl are mostly like that.

  • So when is Hideo Kojima going to be speaking at TED? The man has ALOT to say....

  • Comment removed

  • Aye GTA also seems to be something girls suprisingly love. And really, I mean every generation of it, from the original to whatever will be next.

  • I think change will come when women become more involved with writing software. People write good games because they enjoy playing what they write. Women must take some responsibility and posit positive role models for female geekiness. coffee, junk food - you cannot leave code half baked - it must all be thought out and kept working in mind and in the development environment : it is the law. Women, get pocket protectors.

being spotty is the new black.

dorky and geeky IS sexy and smart.

  • Saying that girls cannot play the current games is pretty sexist. There are many games out there that are not targeting any gender at all. Any RPG is pretty much universal, age or gender. In fact, the majority of WoW gamers are female, there was even a quake 3 arena tournament for girls only.

Any of the pre-existing games for small children, are made to target ALL small children, not just the boys. She obviously does not know enough about the video game industry to talk about it.

  • That woman is upset because she CAN'T beat any Grand Theft Auto games, achieve Gold licenses in any Gran Turismo, beat any Tomb Raider,Halo etc... HAHAHAHA!!! Go play Nintendogs you fool!!!

  • anyone who goes to my page and comments nicely and rates the latest vid 5* i will do same for u and subscribe!

  • "we've touched several hundreds of little girls"

lol j/k, this is interesting food for thought

  • Lots of girls seem to love Fallout 3. Now Fallout 3 doesn't really seem to fall within her idea of a 'girl game'.

The subjects of games are like those that of movies. Both men and women love James Bond simply because it caters to both needs and converges on that. If people like Brenda Laural got to decide who sees what movie then all movies would be like Bridget Jones Diary.

  • I had this game as a girl; it was definitely one of my favorites.

Unfortunately, about a year after this talk, the company folded because they were criticized for being "sexist" for thinking girls didn't want action games like boys did. Excuse me? They just did 2 YEARS of research with girls all over. I think they satisfied the demanders' needs/wants. But the games that are popular today feature objectification of women/violence against women/no female characters at all--and that's not sexist?

  • great ideas girl keep on *****

  • great video! she makes some very nice points! there's different games out there for different people, I especially found it interesting that there's people out there that spent that much time researching young female gamers. If 7 year old girls find this interesting then its great that this company took the time out to create this for them!

  • Boring person, boring games. Ugh. I don't want to get into this but, its laughable.

  • My favorite part of video.. "We've, we've, touched hundreds of thousands of little girls."

  • She just blabs about what she's done and doesn't go into any concepts or explanations about the why's and how's. After 2 years of research that's pretty disappointing.

  • fuck yeah brenda, you are the shit.

  • yep she has gamer girl syndrome.

  • I find it odd that they assume women and girls do not play video games. I know several gals that play video games, many play shooters. They just don't advertise for a number of reasons

  • This doesn't make any sense. There are many girl and kids games rated E obviously. But most of the games such as Dora, Sponge bob, and all those other kid shows make video games that barely sell, whats the point of all of this?

  • This is true because all the little girls in my life love high school musical. Not just because of dancing, but because they love to hear what high school will be like. that and the younger one's pretending to be dogs.

  • lol???????????
