Great use of color. The orange identifies her in every scene. Orange is usually used to suggest passion and in this video the color is set against dark or muted tones. The color shows up a candle in a dark room. Very effective.
and to think Glee got me attracted to broadway and musicals! it's all amazing ESPECIALLY Barbra. Lea did fair on the song but honestly (giggles) i agree with Jesse saint swirlyhead, she lacks her emotional depth. still you gotta luv Lea :)
Every song doesn't have to invoke a competition. The point is to display similar and different styles of singing the same song. You can have your opinions, but no one is going to get anywhere by saying one is "better" than the other when music is subjective in itself.

@huskyluver4 people are allowed to have different interpretations of one song. that's what covers should be about. besides, I don't think they really changed much to it other than improving the sound quality. Glee didn't trash the song...If anything, they celebrated the song by simply performing it and exposing the younger generation to a song they wouldn't have even known in the first place.

My father who would be 104 years old now didn't know that the singing was prerecorded in movies. He assumed she was singing live. He didn't like her for all the reasons people don't like her. But seeing her belting from the bow of a tug to all of New York harbor he had to admit, 'Boy she sure has a voice!'
I think it's silly how much people are comparing the versions, people will always believe things done first and in the past are "amazing", it's just like how after someone dies they talk about "how great a father he was, how he was a wonderful man" and quite literally saint-i-fy them, even if he was a terrible gambler and was leaving his wife. There will always be those who believe that the "new" version is better than the old (whether it is or isn't) who have a need to prove it to others.
I'm just gonna start by saying that Glee chooses certain songs because they are popular, classic, and iconic. I love Glee, the show is awesome and their covers are very well done. This is a good song! But I just don't like this version as much. It's a personal decision. Just because Barbera sang it first does not mean it's hers and no one else's. She is an icon and will be known forever for her role as Fanny, but Lea Michele was amazing!

Barbra is the golden standard for this song. That's a fact that's not disputed. Glee is a fun show. However, not one of those singers on Glee compares to Barbra. Barbra was MORE than a singer. She's an actress, comedian, writer, director, producer, AMAZING singer and the list goes on. The Glee cast singers aspire to greatness. However, the producers do a disservice to the cast. What's with the auto tune? Most of the singers can sing well on the show. Cut the auto tune let's hear them.

They should really make a "love" rating. This song, made me love theatre. Just flipping the channels and all a sudden I hear this song and I fell in love. Barbra, thank you for making me the theatre geek I am. Without you I would of never been in love with theatre and musicals since the age of 5.

Hm, I have to prefer Lea's version to this. I wouldn't know, cause I don't know much about music, and call me an idiot if you want to, but my opinion is that Lea's voice is much more pleasant than Barbra's. I just don't like Barbra's voice, as much. Anyway, that's just my personal opinion, love it or hate it, it won't change if you start talking about what's classic and what's not.

@huskyluver4 if glee didnt make the music modern then many people wouldnt be interested in glee. especially for young people, it would be boring for them. Glee introduces classic songs to the younger generation rather than them being oblivious

@huskyluver4 people are allowed to have different interpretations of one song. that's what covers should be about. besides, I don't think they really changed much to it other than improving the sound quality. Glee didn't trash the song...If anything, they celebrated the song by simply performing it and exposing the younger generation to a song they wouldn't have even known in the first place.
it's when someone sings it live, and do it horribly, that it becomes a crime

My father who would be 104 years old now didn't know that the singing was prerecorded in movies. He assumed she was singing live. He didn't like her for all the reasons people don't like her. But seeing her belting from the bow of a tug to all of New York harbor he had to admit, 'Boy she sure has a voice!'

I think it's silly how much people are comparing the versions, people will always believe things done first and in the past are "amazing", it's just like how after someone dies they talk about "how great a father he was, how he was a wonderful man" and quite literally saint-i-fy them, even if he was a terrible gambler and was leaving his wife. There will always be those who believe that the "new" version is better than the old (whether it is or isn't) who have a need to prove it to others.

I'm just gonna start by saying that Glee chooses certain songs because they are popular, classic, and iconic. I love Glee, the show is awesome and their covers are very well done. This is a good song! But I just don't like this version as much. It's a personal decision. Just because Barbera sang it first does not mean it's hers and no one else's. She is an icon and will be known forever for her role as Fanny, but Lea Michele was amazing!

Barbra is the golden standard for this song. That's a fact that's not disputed. Glee is a fun show. However, not one of those singers on Glee compares to Barbra. Barbra was MORE than a singer. She's an actress, comedian, writer, director, producer, AMAZING singer and the list goes on. The Glee cast singers aspire to greatness. However, the producers do a disservice to the cast. What's with the auto tune? Most of the singers can sing well on the show. Cut the auto tune let's hear them.

you are listening to the something by barbara streisand. you don't have to campare every singel song to the glee version. glee is a cover, you don't have to mention every cover you've ever heard to the original because its creating annoying arguments.
