  • I love the silence at the end. The applause is missing. Hilarious ending to this movie.

  • inception

  • 9 people never woke up.

  • That may be Marion Coutillard's face, but she IS NOT doing the singing... it is a recording of Edith Piaf...

  • @kac5318 i think she did some singing in the movie but not all of it

  • Did I miss the kick?

  • Who were those 8 fuckers who thumbed this down?

  • The kick.

  • The French certainly know how to make such emotional movies!!! One of the best.

    Wunderbar!!!

  • I thought it just happened to me (crying watching this...) It is great to know not being alone

  • Kinda funny that they also use this song in Inception :D

  • OMG... I love this scene..... seriously so intense as the movie

  • Marion was just simply excellent in this movie! i cryed so much during the movie and i couldnt get my eyes off her

  • my mom and i bawl every time we watch this movie, especially at this part. When i listen to it by myself i belt out the lyrics. such a sad song, but many of us can relate to it at some point or another.

  • if i had a choice to listen to today's music or la vie on rose, i would definitely pick this song any day

  • Mes yeux la dechirure.

  • xelent acting!

  • This is ridiculously good. I am absolutely blown away. She BECAME Piaf

  • She WAS Piaf... perfect

  • sometimes oscars are deserved & sometimes not. in the case of ms. coutillard, oscar definitely got it right.

  • is that marion's real voice?

  • @magicrystalina No. Its Edith Piaf. But Marion does a good job at making us believe that she is singing it.

  • that just show how amazing marion is! she WAS edith in this film!! she did a great job!

  • wonderfull

  • i want to mary Marion :)

  • This is one of the BEST films I have ever seen. Coutillard did such an outstanding job. The story itself...as was Edith Piaf...inspiring. Brilliant.

  • Guess when you die or go to Limbo you end up being a French singer...

  • This movie depressed me sooo frickin much

  • Ouh Im shaking... I Love Edith and I have to watch this movie

  • J'adore ce type de la musique

  • I see performances like these and I realize why great actors are a treasure even if they are insecure, brittle and full of ego. They are geniuses who are not ordinary in any sense. We should never expect them to be normal in any way and accept an embrace the quality that makes them such brilliant artists.

  • @madshy well said!

  • @madshy That is one of the loveliest comments I've ever seen on YouTube. Well said.

  • The meaning : I DON´T REGRET BY ANYTHING, ALL IS ZEROED AND I STAR AGAIN. Fantastic performance, great actress ! Congratulation from Brasil.

  • Can someone telling me the meaning of this song?

  • I can't see any signs of Marion Cotillard, she IS Edith Piaf.

  • She did almost yes become her and with her actual music drawing you in,, you cant help but be lost in splendor

  • SHE BECAME EDITH PIAF!

  • Ničeho nelituj, ta nejsmutnější scéna z filmu. Ilowe Edith

  • amazingggg

  • This film is breathtaking in almost every way... such a stunning portrayal of an even more stunning woman, its hard to come away from this without feeling a great deal of respect and admiration for that little sparrow, having come through all those hardships with the ability to say she had "no regrets"

  • 7 ppl stuck in limbo

  • So wait- Was it a dream or not?

  • man I hate it when people don't realize if it wasn't for Inception, millions would never have probably never heard of such a beautiful song such as Non je ne regrette rien.

What I hate even more, is people who think they're better or somehow experts over others just because they heard the song long ago before those who watched Inception. It's music you snobs. It's something we all love and appreciate, and those whom watch Inception happen to appreciate this song a ton if not as much as you.

  • Damn, Mal not only gave the idea for the totem, she also gave the idea for the kick music.

  • thats edith piaf singing right? theres no way thats couttilard

  • @WarThug13

No, thats Cotillard's singing perform. She learned to take Piaf' voice during the film. The french producers stopped giving cash because of that.

  • @Leonbrom12 okay very funny

  • Non rien de rien

    Non je ne regrette rien

  • I bawled during French class at university when we watched this. I had to leave the rest of the class because I could not stop crying!!!!

  • @chamuda610 it took me two days to watch this film simply because i couldnt keep my emotions in place...lol

  • that's marion? quite a transformation .

  • Even though Marion Cotillard did not sing this song, you can just feel that she was singing it, like Edith Piaf was inside her and singin it herself. The energy was amazing and she deserved all of the awards she recieved.

  • Did Marion sing any of the songs in the film or was she just lipsyncing to Piaf's recordings?

  • @Adski92 You can see her singing in 'the making of' (she actually have a very good voice) but the director used the playback because he wanted the original songs by Edith Piaf (and we can't blame him) NO ONE can match Edith voice :)

  • seven people is (probably) deaf!

  • Both Edith Piaf (may she rest in peace) and Marion Cotillard are FRENCH GODDESSES,,

  • one of the most moving scenes in film history

  • A beautiful performance--both the actress and Edith Piaf. All heart and guts. Love them both.

  • Forever my favorite.

  • rip edith

  • isn't it kinda weird that the chick who sung this who leo's wife??

  • @fozinto1 yeah it was to symbolise the kicks

  • wasnt this song in inception/??

  • R.I.P Marcel :(

  • THIS MOVIE AND ACTRESS ARE BEYOND AMAZING. I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THIS MOVIE.

  • For the record, this is a recording - as in, the original Edith Piaf recoridng. Not Marion Cotillard. All she's doing is lip-syncing in a film, so saying that she is performing this song is a bit of an error in syntax.

  • Blew me away. FUCK, she BECAME Edith Piaf.

  • @Robi6942

True, but remember, we dont see fine culture in media very often. We really get what it's worth when we do. And dont critisize (dont think thats spelled right) Americans only. They are worth something.

  • Marion really gave us a masterful performance, she deserved all the rewards she got... Amazing...

  • OH this song just give me the chills! My fave Edith song by far....

  • What is it withthte bloody "Inception" references? Doesn't average america realise there has been culture in Europe for centuries - their hollywood (tho' it hardly creates anything of cultural significance) is not the be all and end all.

People who only know Baryshnikov from Sex & The City, Je Ne Regrette Rien from Inception GOOD GOD PEOPLE READ A BOOK, Gain some info about the world at large and the history of it

  • This film will soon become a classic 20 years from now.

  • I grew up listening to this song and i believe this movie was excellent

  • I saw this film again a week ago - and this last scene made me cry - still does - SO beautiful - film, voice, EDITH!

  • Heard this years ago and loved it, and Inception really reminded me about it. And, Marion Cotillard is great in this film. Bravo.

  • absolutley love this song!! :) shes right "no regrets" :)

  • its inception! im in a dream!!

  • 7 people don't deserve to be living among us. This end scene made my french grandfather cry. This movie changed my life.

  • Marion Coutillard is the best actress ever

I have never seen anyone act the way she did

she deserves so much more than the oscar! she's bloddy brilliant

  • @lola92393 she did, she won seven different Best Actress Awards and will probably now enjoy an extensively brilliant amount of movies that she can choose to be in.

  • This for me was the best scene of the movie. She knows that she's coming to the end of her life and she really wants this moment to cherish until the very end. Her friends stand in the wings, fingers crossed that she makes it though and the emotion of the moment resonates with the audience ~ and the movie viewer too. If you haven't yet seen this movie I'd I suggest you get it on BlueRay, sit back and be amazed. Rest in peace dear Edith and thank you for sharing your gift with us all.

  • i'm sorry, but this performance is really bad. i giver marion cotillard credit for all the technical preparation and physical undergoing she endured for this role, but she missed the emotional and resonant mark completely. if there is any genuine place of feeling cotillard was drawing upon in this performance, it's completely overpowered by performance gimmickry and mannerisms. it just did not ring true for me.

  • @cw6391 marion's performance was one of the greatest ever on cinema!!she'll always be on top 10 performances of all times for me next to legendary names..

  • @theQuest88 I totally agree; I don't know what tha hell this person's talking about.when I saw this movie, she totally blew me away.I was like, shit, she should get an oscar for this. But I didn't think she was gionna win because not many foreign language performances get nominated, let alone win.(I could be wrong but I think this is only the 2nd foreign language performance to win Best Actress in oscar history-Sophia Loren was the 1st).plus Julie Christie was winning everything that year.

  • @cw6391 Uh, okay. If that's your opinion, then, you know. What it is. But when I was watching this, if anyone could have done it better- let's just say I would absolutely LOVE to see it, because it would have to be absolutely mind-blowing. Marion's interpretation of her stage performance is.. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely not "gimmickry", at least not to me.

  • I was amazed how gorgeous Marion cotillard was after I saw this movie.

    She's spectacular

  • goddamn, her performance was the best I've seen throughout the decade.

  • perfection...

  • great!

  • i'm crying.

  • she truly deserved the Oscars

  • This song is so emotional.. gives me chills everytime.

  • hermosa :(

  • i cried like a baby during this scene.

  • Epic performance by Marion Cottilard! =D such a beautiful actress

  • @TheStarceyn100

She passed away 11, October, 1963 from liver cancer. She was 47 yrs old.

  • Love this scene every time i watch it i get goosebumps. Marion Cotillard's performance in this film is phenominal!!!

  • i cried during the entire movie...beautiful and stunning...excellent deliverance by Marion

  • Is this actually Marion's voice? Because it sounds unnaturally close to Edith's. Great movie either way.

  • @PUMKINMANforever No,it is not her voice.

  • AWESOME MOVIEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • perfect ending to the movie, a perfect expression of edith's life and desires

Well what do you expect? Inception was such an Awesome movie, and listening to a song like this is like dreaming

  • Comment removed

  • @nana78748

Hey, guess what you just did?

  • @nana78748 In the list of comments for nearly three pages, your comment is the only one I see mentioning Inception.

  • @JimmyFraska Actually the one about "people never woke up" is an inception joke. A bad one. But it's an inception joke.

  • People see Hollywood movies and after they think they know stuff.

  • @HUGOBRAIN Let me guess, Hugo, your Brain is just too good for Hollywood, right?

  • @nyxB

you're right it was presumptuous to me to write that, I forgot in fact why I was so acerbic in my comment. Perhaps it's the whole 'Inception' thing, and how this song came back to the american collective consciousness through it. French is my first language, so for us Piaf is music we grow up with. We don't actively listen to it everyday, it's like old classic, like say Louis Armstrong or something, we all know it, yet rarely listen to it. Anyway, you're right, I will chill out a bit. =)

  • @nana78748 lol well this song was played in the movie, and Marion was also in it =P The first time I heard this song (and watched this movie) was in high school French classs--lovely song, but of course Inception comes to mind =)

  • @nana78748 Me too;; It's nice to see Inception did so much to bring back a classic...but it goes a little too far sometimes..

  • J'adore cette chanson♥ Bravo, Edith Piaf♥

  • J'adore cete chanson!:) Bravo, Edith Piaf♥

  • J' adore!

Que grande cena :) que grande filme!

    Bravo Marion Cotillar!

    Edith Piaf 4ever!

  • i think i cried about a million times in this movie. she was amazing..

  • Just to make things clear... Marion's performance is definitely stupendous, but she didn't do any of the singing in the movie. Most of the tracks are the originals, with Piaf's own voice (like this one and Hymne A L'Amour). Some of them, like L'Accordeoniste and Padam Padam (the scene in which she collapses onstage) were sung by Jil Aigrot. The only song with Marion's actual voice is the one in which she's drunk at the bar.

  • Amazing song.. what a performance... excellent
