my mom and i bawl every time we watch this movie, especially at this part. When i listen to it by myself i belt out the lyrics. such a sad song, but many of us can relate to it at some point or another.

I see performances like these and I realize why great actors are a treasure even if they are insecure, brittle and full of ego. They are geniuses who are not ordinary in any sense. We should never expect them to be normal in any way and accept an embrace the quality that makes them such brilliant artists.
This film is breathtaking in almost every way... such a stunning portrayal of an even more stunning woman, its hard to come away from this without feeling a great deal of respect and admiration for that little sparrow, having come through all those hardships with the ability to say she had "no regrets"
man I hate it when people don't realize if it wasn't for Inception, millions would never have probably never heard of such a beautiful song such as Non je ne regrette rien.
What I hate even more, is people who think they're better or somehow experts over others just because they heard the song long ago before those who watched Inception. It's music you snobs. It's something we all love and appreciate, and those whom watch Inception happen to appreciate this song a ton if not as much as you.
Even though Marion Cotillard did not sing this song, you can just feel that she was singing it, like Edith Piaf was inside her and singin it herself. The energy was amazing and she deserved all of the awards she recieved.
@Adski92 You can see her singing in 'the making of' (she actually have a very good voice) but the director used the playback because he wanted the original songs by Edith Piaf (and we can't blame him) NO ONE can match Edith voice :)
For the record, this is a recording - as in, the original Edith Piaf recoridng. Not Marion Cotillard. All she's doing is lip-syncing in a film, so saying that she is performing this song is a bit of an error in syntax.
True, but remember, we dont see fine culture in media very often. We really get what it's worth when we do. And dont critisize (dont think thats spelled right) Americans only. They are worth something.

But when I was watching this, if anyone could have done it better- let's just say I would absolutely LOVE to see it, because it would have to be absolutely mind-blowing. Marion's interpretation of her stage performance is.. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely not "gimmickry", at least not to me.
