how much did this cost? my 307 has a knock but no engine check light is on, but i think i might have to rebuild or swap the motor..cause i know the timing is messed up but i did a tune up and now the check engine light went away but theres still a tick and a slight knock
The motor and trans cost me $420 and about another $500 in parts to make everything work. Could be more or less in your case. Planing another swap right now, will cost about $450 to freshen up the motor, but I don't have a car yet to put it into.
You can find 307's dirt cheap in running condition on Craigslist
HA HA yeah, at first I was pissed that the ground crew was mowing the lawn, but after I put the video on the computer I thought it sounded funny, like it was sitting next to a Civic revving it's motor LOL
My dad gave me his 1973 olds 455 with like 365hp or sumtin like that, but it hasn't been turned on for about 13 years, so im going to fix it, i'm going to change spark plugs, replace gas tank and gas filter, oil change and get a new battery for it, hopefully it will be up and running by then.
It 68 the 350 had 255 HP and 355 ft/lbs. You're Uncle is probably right and the CR changed in 1972 dropping the HP down to 180. I est about 268 from this motor after dual plane manifold, and x pipe duals, plus it runs 15.8 in the 1/4 mile and the car weighs in at 4050 with me in it and 1/4 tank of gas
All Small Block Olds are extenally the same from 1968 to 1990. The only problem you might run into is the exhaust manifolds not fitting the engine bay. Buy new motor mounts for the 80 Cutlass, not the 71
See how low the front end sits first, My Delta only gained 80 lbs in the 307 to 350 swap, but I changed the manifold too which dropped about 35 lbs off the total weight. You can get motor mounts pretty easy from OE auto part warehouses on the interent. Be sure to get the V-8 motor mounts, the 3.8 V-6 mounts won't work
Yes all SBO's are externally the same from 1968 to 1990. Exhaust manifold may be the only problem with clearing the frame / engine craddle and get new motor mounts. Get mounts for the 1980 Cutlass, and not he 1971 Cutlass
That's a nice looking car.About your torque figures though in 1968 engines were rated in NET horsepower which was figured with no accessories or exhaust. Engines now are measured in SAE horsepower which is as installed with exhaust and all accessories. So the 454 is actually still making more torque. If you convert your 350s torque to SAE you are probably looking at about 300-310 ft.lbs. The 455 would be about 450-460 ft/lbs
What is the stock torque on a 454? 360 ft/lbs? Odd, the same amount of ft/lbs this motor has, STOCK!! Plus we are talking Olds motors vs Chevy motors. One of the main reasons Olds was forced to stop making motors is because Chevy cry baby bitches would whine about an Oldsmobile motors having more hp and tq than Chevy motors of the same size. Same thing is true with Buick and Pontaic motors as well.
The facts are in the numbers. Like I said, look it up. Maybe you'll find the facts that one reason Olds, Pontaic, and Buick were forced to stop making motors is because little Chevy whiny bitches would cry that these motors would have more tq than thier Chevy conterparts.
You wanna talk big blocks? The Olds 455 has 510 ft/lbs STOCK!! The only Chevy motors 454's to have close to that much tq in stock forum are diesals.
Much better. The 307 was only ruuning on 2 barrels, but it ran 20.60 in the 1/4 mile, now with the 350, it runs 15.8 and still has some tweaking to do. Getting the TH400 tranny rebuilt soon

how much hp would a stock 71' cutlass 350 have?
oldsmobileboy 3 years ago
I'm not too sure, in either 71 or 72 it would be around 180 or so. I forget what year the CR changed. If it wasn't in 71 it would be 250 or so
RedogOnyx 3 years ago
no i know it has more than 180
my uncle said how much it had but i cant remember it was over 250 though atleast by a little bit...im thinkin 275+

do you think a 71' 350 would fit easily in a 80' cutlass?...and im thinkin of putting in a comp cam in it before dropping it in the 80'
o yea and hopefully the block isnt cracked cuze then im screwed

ok sounds good thanks man
where can i get new engine mounts?
and since the 80 cutlass is originally a v6 car, should i chenge up the suspension?

thanks but it has a 350 chevy motor in it right now, i should still change motor mounts right?

I thought you said it was a v6 car? Yes get new mounts, they are only $25 each

and a 400 wont get as much hp/tq as a 454 will
gadjetfat 4 years ago
You do realize we are talking about transmissions, not engines.
FYI though. A Olds 350 SMALL BLOCK has more Torque than a Chevy 454 BIG BLOCK.
Reseach, pay attention, then comment

th400. good trans ,but a beefed up th350 won't robb as much HP/TQ to the rear wheels as the 400 does. Just a thought.

you need to tighten that that belt *BAD*
