Huckabee planned on speaking to the Conservative party before this whole Hoffman thing became a big dealio, Palin wasn't running out to talk to them. That is not a knock against Palin, it just shows that Huckabee cared about the issues raised by this party before most others even thought about it.

Huckabee had a good reason for not giving an endorsement:

To paraphrase Mike he likes Hoffman a lot but he can't endorse Hoffman because there is a conflict of interest. Mike is speaking at an awards dinner being put on by the New York Conservative party (Hoffman's party) and being paid for it. If Mike endorses Hoffman than it appears he is giving an endorsement after being paid for it.
