  • 0:44 Sounds like my kind of life

  • I was disenchanted with Opeth until I found Porcupine Tree. And now Opeth makes sense to me.

I still dislike how unfluid and repetetive Opeth gets sometime.

  • Jonas got it from guitarist of Solitude Aeturnus? Cool.

  • Is he holding 'Fear of a Blank Planet'? Opeth and Porcupine Tree are both amazing.

  • im a hacker.... im a akerfeldt!!

  • I guess that makes me a Katatoolupine-Townsendreameshuggapethian.

  • @TheSwagganator I am so glad I know all those bands haha.

Katatonia, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Opeth... I think ;D

  • lol Akerfeldt looks like the actor Steve Coogan.

  • @Dungarth are you smoking pot???

  • @tomnevati Hell yah yo thats what im saying lol

  • Youtube comments anger me. FUCK YOU CUNTS!!!

  • Porcupeth!

    Love both bands so much

  • when he plays the second solo on Arriving Somewhere but not here, which solo is that? The quiet bluesy one?

  • @talons12345678910

I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure it's the one at 8:49, the one with the quiet drum part in the background and the keys.

  • @talons12345678910 yes, the second one

  • lol gotta love his light blue denim jacket xD

  • Fell in love with this cross-promotion XD honestly!

  • he sounds nothing like the swedish chef. I like Scandinavian accents, they sound very precise and choppy.

  • Opeth? Porcupine Tree? Katatonia? These guys are all in one badass social circle with one another? IF they EVER go on tour together in the States, that'll be the cherry topping to the cake of my life!

  • @dinoman89 YES

  • im a tooldreamopethtree

  • @agustinkpo97 i love you now.

  • Seriously when i look at how Akerfeldt talk's it look's so Awkward

  • @EDEDDnricky yeap, he's swedish lol

  • I like how he calls Porcupine Tree's first album "Funny". I think thats an understatement, Its hilarious.

  • @ColorOfAir I approve of both this comment and your excellent screen name!

  • @ColorOfAir I think he means its weird.

  • Its funny the way mikael accents some words, particularly "MEtl" and "RRRECRD" haha he awesome

  • KATATOPETH TREE XD

  • Haha, I own that exact t-shirt. Ash Ra Tempel rocks :)

  • @heavysleep Klaus Schulze KrautRocks

  • Opeth, Katatonia & Porcupine Tree is where it's at.

  • Is my favorite band too :P

  • wilson+akerfeldt=perfection

  • Wow, Porcupeth, That is what I am haha Gotta love the 'Peth Tree!!!

  • I'm proud of myself. I saw them both live!!!! Motherfucking hell yeah!!!

    I♥♥♥ Mikael Åkerfeldt

    I ♥♥♥ Steven Wilson

  • PORCUPETHS UNITE! \m/

  • Great bands. It's just a pity that LOTS of people dont know about them and get stuck in the past with "classic" bands :|

  • Comment removed

  • Its subjective but Porcupine Tree owns Opeth..and it seems Mikael agrees with me..I just dont like Opeths''cookie monster'' songs...now I know Opeth have clear singing tunes too...just sayin

  • @nneevveerrmmoorree Blasphemy! cookie monster owns!

  • @nneevveerrmmoorree this guy just called opeth's death metal songs " cookie monsters songs"....why is he even watching this video? boo the man :P

  • haha Porcupeth, both bands kick ass

  • i am a porcupeth too :D

  • WHAT? Thats soo strange. I just discovered procupine tree the other day, and I thought that maybe they got their stuff from opeth, but no they INFLUENCED this legend....wow....two amazing bands....

  • Porcupine Tree and Opeth headline Norwegian Wood Festival in Oslo tomorrow night. Awesome!

  • i can remember hearing on the sunday of life PT first album and it reminds me of piper at the gates of dawn by pink floyd there debut album also

  • I wonder if mik smokes weed.

he seems like a stoner doesnt he?

  • I'd imagine so when he said they didn't have any jobs or anything; they just hung around and listened to music. That's all the evidence I need lol

  • @69swipe i thinks he does, by the way who doesnt

  • @pulportnoy I don't think he does, he seems too...lucid to be a pothead.

  • 2:00 - 2:10 :D

  • Mikael always looks distracted or careless in interviews.. Inspirational.

  • porcupine tree is one of my favorite bands!:D

  • I'm proud to be a Porcupeth.

  • Spot on, spot on

  • @tomnevati what an awesome monstosity of a word lol

  • @nphec or monstrosity god i need to wake up

  • Fag

  • @ItsDefinatlyAlex Ya we are gay and weirds, so please gtfo and dont listen porcupine tree cuz its only for "fags" like us.

  • @007Pogo dude callm the fuck down and stop being faggy

  • @ItsDefinatlyAlex I was being sarcastic, lol , i dont like mens.

  • @007Pogo mens ? wow

  • @ItsDefinatlyAlex I just cant understand why people use that terms like gay as a offense, is just people who like person of the same sex.

  • Me too! xD

  • @tomnevati Oooh, I like that.

  • @tomnevati I'm more of a Meshuggopeth

  • @tomnevati LoL, same here.

  • @tomnevati Porcupethian :D

  • can someone get the 3 videos of steven interviewing mike on here? i was able to watch them the first day i found them and since then never again, in any browser. idk if its me or the site, but i'd really like to see them again and show a friend. thanks =]

  • Funny note, not sure if you all know this, but whatever:) Mikael Åkerfeldt plays the second solo on the track "Arriving somewhere but not here" by Porkupine tree:)

  • And a great solo it is.

  • Why didn't I know this already!?

I love both bands and I have all their records! What the hell, is someone pulling a scam on me!?

Though it is kinda obvious, the two of them working together. They should get in touch with Daniel Gildenlöw and Roine Stolt as well. Would be awesome. :D:D:D

  • I figured it out when I heard the riff at 5:12 in PT's song "Gravity Eyelids". Later that day I listened to The Leper Affinity and realized the final riff before the piano was pretty much the same as the one in Gravity Eyelids. I read some backround on them (this was when I had just gotten into these bands) and was amazed!! =)

  • :O

Haven't noticed this before! I really love both songs too!

  • i just double checked that! you're right! amazing discovery man.

  • i knew he like them... i had the same emotions and reactions to OPETH that he had with them starting about 4 years ago... i was just blown away... i knew of porcupine tree, just didn't listen to them... now i can't stop... ive been listening to Porcupine Tree, Three, and OPETH none stop for the past 3 weeks...

  • Yeah it was unlikely to find out about this since they both sound like two completely different bands yet they are friends with eachother because their both awesome bands

  • Steven and Mikael are two friends, they always praise each other in the interview

    LOL

  • cave man, much?

  • such a nice guy, met him a few times, gave me a free opeth shirt, a wallet and a limited edtion version of watershed the last time i met him, got the band out to sign it as well, and a picture and alll=]

its nice to meet a guy in a band who insnt stuck up and would actually talk to you for a while=]

  • damn you're lucky!

  • How did you manage to meet him? Did you show up early to the concert or something?

  • yea he was playin belfast for the first time, so we went round the venue early in the afternoon and met the whole band, he talked to me and my mate for a while and asked us about belfast, he asked us to show him if ther wer any vinyl and record shops nearby and we ended up buyin him one out of a local shop,

true story got the pics to prove it=]

  • aye but that can only come from having not that much success... cause when u do, you cant afford to-

  • @l33millar I met him too, we were to drink a coffee and talk about life. I'm his psychologist.

  • It's called fear of a blank planet. Good tune.

  • the song at the beginning sounds pretty cool, does anybody know its name?

  • Opeth's frontman. They're friends with PT I guess, Damnation was recorded by a help of Steven Wilson.

  • Steven Wilson produced almost all Opeth albums. Played the keyboard parts in a couple of them. Also plays some guitar solos.

  • Comment removed

  • He produced 3, my bad, lol Blackwater Park, Damnation and Deliverance. But technically 2 cause damnation and deliverance were supposed to be a double album set.

  • No he only produced three, Opeth has made nine albums.

  • Ash Ra Tempel t-shirt. Props!

  • Hahaha, my mom walked in on my when I was watching this and thought it was a webcam conversation. She looked at me and said "Do you know this boy?" lol

  • Would be cool if you were chatting with Mikael :D.

  • That would make my life complete :D I'd probably be a stuttering mess. I mean, what can you say to a man whose accomplishments have no end?

  • I spoke to him a month or 2 ago after a show and I was totally freaking out from the moment I saw his face in real-life!

  • at least u got to see him !! i never get the chance :(

    ur extremely lucky

  • I was lucky yes, I had to sneak on the VIP parking though, and stealth my way through their tour busses :D.

  • haha thats awesome !! =D

  • @zeppelin8

    You should've said:

"But mom, never heard of Jesus?"

  • @zeppelin8 boy? how many "boys" do you know that have facial hair like that?

  • @arrestedshrimp Haha, I was 18 at the time, so my mom thought it was someone my age (I have some friends with crazy facial hair).

  • @zeppelin8

    lol

  • @zeppelin8 LLLOOOLLL. I actually met Mike (and the whole band) after the anniversary gig in Essen in a pub. And yes, I know, I'm a fucking show-off :P

  • @wurstgitarre Damnit! You Germans always get the last laugh!

  • @zeppelin8 lol

  • Imagine having an email from the producer, singer and songwriter of your favourite band!! And then having the privelage to work on 'Deadwing' etc, thats unreal.

  • Steve Wilson worked miracles on Damnation.

  • Do you know what track it is at the end of the video? Sounds fucking nice!

  • That would be Fear of a Blank Planet from the album by the same name.

  • Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree :)

  • fear of a blank planet by porcupine tree

  • Dude, I loved your comment. Funny stuff!

  • Wow. I can totally relate to Akerfeldt--to the hunger for anything and everything Wilson has recorded. I have never heard a Porcupine Tree track that I haven't fallen completely in love with! Wilson can do no wrong.

  • Hope you´re a troll.

  • David Wison? lol.. you're pathetic.

  • Ha. Should he apologize for his accent? Get over yourself, you think you're so indie or whatever. He said they haven't released a song he doesn't like, so I believe that's another reason he likes Porcupine Tree.. also, I'm not really sure you know who Mikael Akerfeldt is. Not exactly a "bought rock star."

  • It's known that Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson are good friends.

They're always complimenting each others work and namedropping in interviews, no big conspiracy.

  • Comment removed

  • Watershed was produced by Akerfeldt himself

Blackwater Park was produced by Steven Wilson

  • Apologies, I got it incorrect.

  • So was Damnation and Deliverance

  • you love cock

  • Haha. You're a joke.

  • did he say that he thought the first album was funny?

  • he's right xD

  • It's hilarious how he just got in touch with Steve Wilson after he liked the band so much. I wish i could call Mikael and ask him to produce some of my stuff. Hahaha

  • His english in this video compared to Roundhouse Tapes = big fucking difference. Here he has a very very swedish accent to it and in Roundhouse he sounds almost like a englishman! ;D

  • probably cause he's in a small room with a camera and some journalist but during roundhouse he was in front of thousands of people in england itself. (i'm swedish too :P )

  • Mikael Akerfeldt is best!

  • My Arms, Your Hearse - there best.

  • Where's all the Ghost Reveries love!?

Also, Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb sun is fucking win.

  • You sir are completely right, whats up whit ppl who put it so low on their charts ... dunno i think its in my top 3

  • Mikael Akerfeldt is God.

Jonas Renske is a close second

And Steven Wilson is not far behind.

    I love all three

  • I like Opeth AND Porcupine Tree.

Have any of you guys heard Porcupine Tree? They're pretty great too.

  • They are both so friggin' talented in so many ways. :D

  • Opeth>everything

  • I saw this and giggled

    :D

  • Morningrise

    Blackwater Park

    Ghost Reveries

My favorites. I haven't heard Still Life all the way through though.

  • Still Life is their best :( Go listen to it! ;D

  • Since I posted that comment, I've got their entire discography. Great, great band.

  • That's great! imo its

    Still Life

    MAYH

    BWP

    Morningrise

    Damnation

    Deliverance

    Ghost Reveries

    Orchid

    Watershed

  • All brilliant albums. I couldn't put one before another

  • My favourite Opeth albums are:

    Watershed

    Still Life

    Blackwater Park

All of their albums are incredible though

  • I love Opeth and Porcupine Tree. They're both such amazingly talented bands. \m/!!!

  • seriously man bloodbath kicks so much ass. opeth is ok too

  • Bloodbath is excellent death metal but Opeth, man, Opeth is something special.

  • yeah, i only have ghost reveries, any suggestions on other opeth records?

  • Well Damnation is an unbelievable record when it comes to atmosphere. There is no growling vocals in it but its still one of the best records ever made period in my opinion. Deliverance is the heaviest record for sure and Watershed is my favorite. It took me about 4 or 5 listens to really get into Watershed but once you do get into it, it is immensely enjoyable. Honestly though, all the albums are top notch, must have records.

  • Water Shed

    Black Water Park

    I Would Start There

  • i always hear still life is their master of puppets album.

  • CLEARLY you're one of those people who likes to say their old albums are better just so you can say you've been listening to them longer. Opeth has actually gotten BETTER in progression with each album.

  • lulz. that's pretty outrageous that you're hatin on their fanliness and you're saying that those two albums suck ass. i personally, haven't heard one single Opeth song that i didn't like. and i've got Watershed, Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park, and Deliverance, not to mention everything else i've downloaded and such. they rock my socks.

  • NO I LIKE OPETH MORE

    Come on guys.

  • yeah true that. Every opeth album sounds different which is why the band is great. Morningrise is a great album and so is Ghost Reveries

  • I just bought Damnation, which is INCREDIBLE. I want to get Blackwater Park, and the only reason i haven't yet is because i won't settle for the standard version. Blackwater Park is my personal favorite, also.

  • Deliverance, Watershed the newest one, my arms your hearse, dang dude there a shit load good one's oh yeah blackwater park and still life

  • My Arms, Your Hearse

    Orchid

    Morningrise

    My favorite albums.

  • :D \m/

  • opeth wintersun tool porcupine tree.....shut the fuck up about anything else...wintersunis sooo unated btw

  • why the hell do you think that? he's a musical genius!!

  • dude, you're an arse.
