  • I tried launch mode on my 03 with a VF stage 2 supercharger and it was ridiculous the amount of wheels sping I got in first, even with modulation of the pedal. Second gear started kickin out the rear unless I let off the gas as well. Im using PSS front and rear 245/274 with 34/36psi

  • You luky sonofabitch

  • I cant get this to work in my 04 SMG what gives

  • Great for a 340 BHP car!

  • Thanks for the share bro! I finally tried that out today and it work just perfect!! Thanks again!

  • can you laucnh a fwd like a celica as well

  • ill do anything for an m3

  • is it 06 ?

what about the rpm lights ? is it for 06 model only ?

  • @pro999evo999 I have an 04 and i have the rpm lights.

  • do u use the two shifters that are behind the steering wheel ?

  • iHope all ur subframes shear apart lol - stop launching E46's lol

  • @bmwdat1 its under warranty you do know that right?

  • @briant2828 so you intentionally destroy a work of art?

  • @bmwdat1 not what i mean. but in the event that it does happen, its cost free.

  • @briant2828 oh well, another one lost -

    have fun

  • @bmwdat1 It's definitely not the harshest launch control. It's only 2000 rpm's. I mean, better if you don't do it at all but if you try it, it sure is a lot safer than say a pre-2012 GTR.

  • i love doing launch control in my M3 makes a world of difference when racing from a dig

  • i have personally tried the launch control .. as a passenger LOL ... and it was ........ ?

i just can describe how i feel ...just awesome !

    16 seconds=180 kms .. FOR.THE.WIN !!!

  • Is there much diff between the 6speed getrag vs the smg? Will other with the manual six speed get the most out of the car?

  • @ovariesniper it really is personal preference, on the race track they do tend to be faster with them

  • @reveuro so the gears are identical? Cuz u know how some vehicles like the 350z for example the six speed is much powerful and automatic just slows the car down.

  • @ovariesniper the gearbox is identical in both smg and manual, only difference is the smg computer thingy magiggy with paddles in the smg car. driving in automatic mode is not the most comfortable although you can smooth it out with good throttle control, same in all smg m cars. i luv my smg but if i am honest i do miss the clutch.

  • @ovariesniper rev is right. On a track, generally the 6 speed is slightly slower. In a straight line, It is possible for a human to shift fast than the SMG, however, the SMG is never going to miss, it wont destroy your clutch ever, and it's consistent. So on a racetrack when hunting the apex and turn in etc, theres a lot going on, so the SMG tends to be faster and more precise. The actual clutch and transmission internals, are identical, one is just hydraulically/automatically operated. ;)

  • @accordv6er holly late reply lmao! anyway it is true what you say, but from my research seems as those who have the smg tranny are anticipating when that thing will break. Something about a pump that goes bad when you hammer the transmission and thats a 5grand repairing bill lol i rather stay away from the smg.

  • @ovariesniper lol. Yeah thats a win. I don't know much more about the system, but that sounds right, it's hydrualics, combined with transmission. GOD HELP US

  • nice launch system

  • Hey I have an smg ... Canadian car... Is the launch control only available on the euro and u.s? I've tries but no use.. I have to hit the pedal with a twitch couple times and the rev stayes up and I step on it then it does it.. Not by holding the shifter up...

  • the gearstick looks like a dildo:D

  • @McDomRap if this is what comes to your mind with all it's 3 inch height I feel

very sorry for you my friend

  • wooooooooow!!!!!!!!!

  • THE CAR SHAKES LIKE A BITCH

  • @bbharvi -the camera does

  • @bbharvi cause hes braking

  • @volkchristopherm HA, just HA-HA. nothing more, nothing less..

the computer is only able to (learn) so it can compensate the most dedicated driver as good as possible. and bmw does not sell a car like this, and then say this: don't use this car where it is supposed to be used for, or we void your warranty. that's just fucking bulshit man. just think about it...

  • beautiful launch!

  • im a crap driver, and still get this car away faster than anything else at traffic lights..i think only porsches, ferraris etc can beat u with this machine...

  • Thanks for the video..will have to try it out soon lol

  • I don't really get it.. If you turn on ///M mode then DSC turns off yet it only shows S1-S5... :S

  • Is that stock acceleration!?

  • @MKitson yes it was a stock car

  • Hi, how can you make the lights go up on your rmp, also on my e46 I have the option to set it on "S" or "A" mode why is your on "D" mode?

    Thank you reveuro.

  • this is the only car in which i'd rather have an SMG than a manual

  • @whatthehallbetch the smg in this car is fucked up.. the manual version is just as good.. but more comfortable..

  • this is fucking insanse

  • hey can someone explain to me why manual would be better than the SMG or vice versa

  • Ebay search SMG tranny, SMG pump, accuator, SMG controller, SMG steering wheel, the airbag contact ring.

Together cost is about $8000 only. Add $100/hr labor

still has a clutch, flywheel, ect so don't forget to replace those to, add labor once again.

6 coils will fail, they are recalled Bermi upgrade IRA brand. $55 each $300 labor.

Both TPS throttle sensors will fail $550 installed and do the 6 thottle body calibrations

Most pumps fail before $100k, yeah !!!!!!

  • manual = more involving/rewarding to drive. you can heel+toe/blip yourself rather than relying on the computer to do it for you. smg is probably QUICKER though...

  • yeah i get what you mean now. you wont feel as connected with the car just by flipping a paddle. but do the lights on the tachometer signify when to change on the manual. or is that exclusive to SMG?

  • @bamboo1191 only on the smg

  • One can remap SMG like a stall converter for 5000rpm launch $500

  • shred the spins of the drive shaft . M3 not setup to drag.

  • Warranty voids in GTR Nissan if launch is used.

  • nissan changed that for 2010, no launch control but now u can launch with traction control on and still get pretty much the same 0-60 time

  • yes launch control. they softened it so that it wouldnt shred the trans

  • not the new one

  • Hey that is sweet! I never realised the tacho led light double function as shift light.

  • i got 5.2 seconds.......

    sound about right?

  • is that smg I or II? BTW I have the V8 S4 and was also thinking about getting an m3 ragtop for summer. have you been in an s4 (especially the v8 version)? i fso was wondering if you can give insight as to differences. otherwise it sounds like you know what you are talking about. thx

  • Standard M3 SMG in stock from, and it wasn't even near sea level at 2600 ft, I could have got it there a bit faster, as you see I let off a bit in first gear to compensate the wheel spin and I think it was a little too much, with a decent driver the E46 M3 can be very quick

  • Comment removed

  • I believe your info is correct on the computer being able to keep track, however BMW does not void the warranty, as this feature is part of the car, they cannot just say if you use it you loose your warranty, this rumor has been going around ever since the e46 M3 come out on the market in the US. The european version actually has a higher start rpm than the us model

  • thanks soooo much it also showed what a BMW is capable of :)

  • is the car in sport mode i have a 2003 does that make a difference

PS great vid helped a lot

  • Yes the car is/was in sport mode, it doesn't make a difference as far as power goes, however it does with throttle response - makes it much faster, other than that having it on is a personal preference as some like it some not so much. The fun side of it : cruise with slight acceleration in normal mode, without lifting your foot off the gas enable sport mode anyone sitting next to you can be fooled into believing you got extra power with it.

  • @gould555 the main difference sport mode makes is a more sensitive throttle response. good for race track if you are trying to beat you lap time and want to take advantage on everything the car can give. if you want to do a small test drive on a empty road at 20mph consistently and switch between sport and normal, you'll be able to tell the difference straight away if u pay attention. i also have a 2003 m3, luv it to bits, future classic that car!

  • I'm a BMW owner. I am looking at an M3 w/ SMG

    Your video helped !! Thanks

  • FFS I love this car so much...... it will be my goal to buy an 04' BMW M3 SMG. My brother use to have one in till his semi trucks got into accidents right after his insurance on them was taken off by the company. He had to sell it he drove a Toyota Camry for like 2 years then got RIPPED OFF on a 2003 Zo6, now he is in debt again and going to return the Zo6 in May or so. I wish he wasn't such a dumb ass, he wants his M3 back so bad, we hate the Vette.

  • @@@@ in reply to my first comment right under this one........note we raced 1/4 mile when i beat him tho we raced from 40 roll he beat me by like 1-2 car lenghts... i love my m baby great video

  • got m3 smg last july phenix yellow full race exhaust k&n just filter 275 30 19 rear tires ran a 12.88 at island dragway in newjersy rt. was .351 and guarante can get mid 12's it took me last year at the island 3 runs and this year to figure out the launch. Now i heat tires I tromp the gas real hard with stick foward. i just raced a srt4 last friday april 17 2009 and he had a 20 psi turbo. his utube name is hondaeatersrt4 look at his videos. i smoked him last week by 2-3 car lengths for real

  • Thanks for the vid. i had my M3 for like 5 weeks now and i have tried to race it many times but i didnt have clue as to how to activate the launch control. thanks again.

  • you welcome , thanks for watching and have fun with your car

  • Hi there, I just bought an M3 myself and I have not yet tried launch control. I know it has to be activated by holding the shift knob forward and then slowly pressing the accelerator and then releasing the shift knob.

What I don't know is if you have to continue shifting using the shift knob? or can you use the steering wheel paddles to shift once the launch has been activated?

    cheers

  • No, you can just use the paddles after taking off,

as for pressing the accelerator: - the faster you step it in the more harsh the take off will be. As you see that one was a pretty quick launch, I stepped it in quickly for a faster take off, and held down till launch, than moderated wheel spin by playing with the gas pedal, I actually think I have overcompensated a bit.

  • Thanks for the info mate! :-)

Going to give it a go when I have some more money in the bank lol.. If anything is going to break it's bound to happen when I do a launch :P

    cheers again

  • I wouldn't be too afraid of it braking they are strong cars, and the reason for having this ability is that the car is designed to do it , just keep in mind it does put pressure on the car, so don't make it your regular driving habit.

my first BMW m3 an e30 m3 had over 200k on the clock and I USED it daily to the full meaning of the word and nothing ever broke on it. Proper maintenance is a must though.

I hope you enjoy your M3

  • great vid im in the process of buying one keep em coming!

  • I dont really care for the smg. Give me a good ole stick with clutch and you can do alot more

  • thanks for the answer, and meanwhile how much does an M3 like yours costs, and is it very expensive to mantain, because i´m considering of getting well not an M3 but maybe a 330ci or a 325ci, i know they are pretty much different in specs and equipment but I think that bmw is a great brand of cars, I live with a mustang and of course I think that is time to get a new car, what do you recomend?

  • what a good launch!!, my god those light on the rev counter, i love them, but i have a doubt about them, do they work only to indicate when the car is ready to work full power or also to let you know when to change gear?

  • The purpose of the lights is to warn you when to shift, as far as the full power indication goes it doesn't serve as a power meter, however when the engine is cold the yellow will be lit up from 4000 rpm depending how cold the engine is and as the warm up progresses the lights will go out one by one and you will have only the last yellow and the two red ones working and of course here it will go back to the shift light function. - the shiftlight function only works on SMG cars.

  • They actually not indicating the power at all, they are for shifting purposes, and they work as an rpm advisor when the engine is cold, as the engine warms up they disappear one buy one until you only see one yellow and two red ones.

  • that was a perfect launch

  • thanks
