@Dodo251 Ironically, the networks went away from shows like these because they "bored the daylights out of everyone else," as Bernstein so aptly described in this video. Now everybody is just climbing all over each other to be cool. There is no support for new ideas or new learning, and yet this is what our culture needs most. Television absolutely starves creatively because of the runaway anxiety that the product will be "too different" to meet a certain ratings projection.
I wholeheartedly agree with Dodo! So many more programs to choose from today, but what does that help if it all is utter bs! Shallow is the world, today. I wish I had a time machine...
I watched this and his concerts for children as a small kid with my sister and my parents. I credit ole Lenny with teaching me about music, and with getting my ear tune in early to the wonders of classical music.
Fuck today's television. Honestly, I was no where near being born back in the '50s, nor were my parents for that matter, but you can clearly tell that pretty much everything went down the slope in the next half of century, including television with its big brothers, jersey shores and the rest god awful crap.
@Adamalgorithm Omnibus (especially the Bernstein shows) remind me of something George Will said about the "Civil War" miniseries (with historian Shelby Foote): "If there's a better use for TV than this, I have yet to find it!"
apolloxias, whoever you are I could kiss you for setting these Bernstein shows up. Too bad it took me so long to get here. Thanks a million. Much Appreciated !!!
Thank you SO much for posting this.

I recognize Benar Heifetz, the first cellist--a previous member of the NBC Symphony and member of the Albeneri Trio.
Is that Murray Panitz playing first flute? Later with the Philadelphia Orchestra--and without that horrible hair piece......
A thousand thanks for this wonderful document.

Wow. Conducting is hard work. Bernstein had to hear everything and then address the specific reasons why it didn't sound right.
I love this video; it's something you never see. Thank you apolloxias.
