after you move your beer to the secondary fermenter i noticed there was alot of headspace in your carboy. by doing that, is there any risk of oxygen destroying your beer? cheers
Great series of video. I never keg since I don't have another fridge yet but I like the idea of leaving at 29 PSI and walk away. No shaking, no adjusting by the day etc..cheer
Been searching for this homebrew video for about an hour now, finally found it in my favourites after much searching! One of the most inspirational vids that helped me get into homebrewing. Still haven't got a keg.. But it's on the list for sure :).
@LeJimster - Thanks for the props! I just now kegged up a batch of brew I named "Cleft Foot." It's a rich Black Ale. Can't even see through it. I added some Black Treacle to this batch to increase the sugars. It is GOOD. Tastes similar to a Chimay Grande Reserve.
Thanks Traviz! That was a GREAT Ale! This past Monday I brewed a Belgian Trappist Dubbel. It's fermenting now. Can't wait for this new batch! Happy Homebrewing!
Great Video, we are real new to Home Brewing and are on our 4th batch. The Cornelius Keg should be here in a week. And we cant wait. Like you said in the video, kegs seem like the best way to go. Next we are going to try for a strong stout like yours, man it looks good :) CHEERS!
I recently started homebrewing and I've fallen so much in love with it that I started a blog for it. I don't know what it is but drinking, brewing, and talking beer just makes me happy. When I saw your beer mustache I laughed. I've the same thing going on here and it is priceless.
Great job! I bet it was hard making the video with only one person.
Is there anyway to stay connected? Twitter or something?
HaHa!!..got a kick out of the way you yanked that glass from The Misses's hand at the end there. Didn't look to me like she was done yet!!!..Great series. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. Thanks!
I am kegging for the first time tonight. You video seemed the easiest to follow. wish me luck. Hope I never have to look at bottles again. Brewed my own recipe for a Holiday Porter.
When you hook up the gas into the keg, do you also hook up the hose from the keg to the tap? or do you wait the three days before hooking that up? Thanks
It was much more tasty than a Guiness! Full of body, and a pungent finish! DELICIOUS! I'm brewing a Belgian Noel next weekend. This one I plan to naturally carbonate in a corny keg and tap in December. CHEERS!
Your video makes homebrewing seem alot less complicated than others make it on their vids. BTW I am pretty sure the "spirit" that runs up and down my hallway at about 2 in the morning will be happy about the spirits I will be brewing up in the future. Thanks and Cheers!!
thank you so much for your video and thoughts on force carbonation! very nice. tell me, is it normal to be able to barely pick up some sound from the co2 going in to the keg at 30 psi, or does this mean that i have a leak? this is sound is audible only from a few inches away or so.
Thanks for your comment! I'm actually about to brew an AHS Belgian Noel this weekend! It's a Mini-Mash... I may naturally carbonate this batch. Happy Homebrewing! ~Shad
do you chill your keg to serving temp with the beer in it and then force carbonation or do you just put the beer in the keg warm and then in the fridge with the co2 going...makes no difference i just read that on the internet somewhere
I do not chill the the beer and keg first. I just put it in my Kreezer, hook up the CO2, and release the air out by giving the release valve a few tugs.
I do not strain the wort when transferring to the primary fermenter. Everything should settle after the week is up. If brewing a BIG beer I'll sometimes use whirlflock or KC finings to really clear the Ale up.

hi shad, it's been one year since I've commented on your video, where is part 4?
There is also filmed with me if you want to watch you have to search in you tube on "brouwtv kerst 2010". Now you can see me home brewing.
I'm very curious about your reaction to my video.
Happy home brewing ! Dave the Netherlands

How long does the beer you make stay fresh in the kegs?

Thanks for the comment! If you're hearing co2, you probably have a leak. When mine is hooked up you can't hear any noises. Have a good one!
