I read an English translation to this song. Does anyone know the meaning behind it? Why someone would go down to the lake to rescue flies is beyond me, unless there's some symbolic meaning that I'm missing...

It's hard to translate Sigur Ròs' songs into English as they don't sing in Icelandic but 'Hopelandic' which is a made up language by the lead singer - I wouldn't trust any translations you read too much..

I can't believe how many people believe this. Sigur Ros DOES sing in Icelandic as well as Hopelandic, and this song is definitely in Icelandic. (Really, it's not that hard to tell the difference -- Hopelandic uses a lot of the same vocables over and over again.)

Well I'm not entirely mistaken. Watching a documentary on them and that fact was stated by the band themselves. They sing in both, fair enough.

Hopelandic doesnt have any meaning... and any words.. Its just simple singing when you dont have any words ^^ yet so buetifull.(jonsi said that)
