That is Kate Smith. Notice....how she does not sing directly into the mic...if she had...she would have blown the doors off of Cher and Tina...go listen to Kate sing "God Bless America"...her voice was laser pure, and honed to an edge that could divide bone from marrow. And yes, she was a big woman, but she had to be in order to carry her even bigger personality. I love her.
Kate Smith... and I appreciate is a legend in her own right... wife her big white boa, and thick rimmed glasses... comes across as the wife of a company director, who got her 'wish' to perform on The Sonny & Cher show. I mean... why have her on at all? ESPECIALLY as part of a trio. It's madness. I'd love to her CHER comment on this... I can only imagine her now.
That IS Kate Smith. It's from show 11 of the Cher show, filmed in 1975. Kate Smith would have been 68 (and by the way, Ethyl Merman was less than a year younger than Kate Smith). If you know Ethyl Merman's voice, it doesn't sound at all like her. Kate Smith always sang popular songs and near the end of her career incorporated Beatles tunes into her act.
That is NOT Kate Smith. I too think it's Ethel Merman. But I can't tell for sure. This was probably the late seventies when Sonny and Cher had parted. Kate Smith was born in 1907 and would have been over seventy years old. She was much heavier always than the third woman in this video.
@msjaws100 Sorry, but that is none other than Kate Smith. She was about 68 years old in this clip (1975). She died in 1986 at 79 years of age! She also was a much larger woman earlier on!
@benswhite3222 Well she is not from that generation but form the older generation. See the videos with the Osmonds. She really did get down with them. Wonder if she would get down with the trashy youth of today?

It's like an auditory train wreck, it's bad but you can't help but listen.

@0menv0x Kate Smith was the US's "wartime songbird" in WWII, popular with renditions of "God Bless America," "The White Cliffs of Dover," etc.
