Not a single major network station in Houston where I live use EAS. Of coursr they have it at their station, but have it in manual mode. They use a seperate warning system and disable it during newscast, so this would never happen here.
Hes at home watching it on TV. I even went outside (didnt use storm camera) and recorded a severe thunderstorm with winds at 80 MPH. the door was banging, power was out for 12 hr. I think the year was 2005.
Sometimes out in the mess or at my home where I have an office dedicated to weather... Televisions for all local stations computers for radar... Heck, even a green wall for some future usage.
No EAS either. No tornadoes (or any kind of weather where you can lose your house or even life) i think is a huge benefit of living in New England. Worst here are floods (COUGH COUGH Merrimack Valley) and snow.
Actually yes there is an EAS. There is storms in NE that can destroy houses and other buildings and can kil people, have you ever heard of HURRICANES????? There is ones in Cape Cod. Hurricane Ophelia ( I think, i'm not 100% sure)And last, thunder and lighting??????!!!!!!!! They don't do it in jus storms, they do it in amber alerts somehow. And that's the best I can do to refresh your mind.
There's a few twisters in mass. but not as many as there is in Pennslyvania, Ohio, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and The Tornado Alley States (Oklahoma, Nebreska, North Texas, and Kansas).
i remember this, we did get the bad part of the storm here in Cincy, but i remember being on the porch during the storm and feeling the temp drop 30* in 20 minutes, it was insane!
I beleive they can however, it is a pain in the rear to do so... WHIO is all about using the EAS for Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings b/c the signal puts up Live Doppler 7 right away if for some reason nobody is there. The EAS you see here is only on Channel 7... The cable system has another one of its own that will alert about 5-7 minutes later but since I just use over the air signals for most of these, you do not see it.
the radar at this time was 200 watts and resolution was sub-par thus the pixelation of the data. Now they have a higher resolution radar and VIPIR.

The EAS is never used for warnings, and how often does a hurricane actually hit NE??? do the math.
ISLAVERDE29 4 years ago
That one storm in 1939 or something{could be '38 or '37, don't know} killed over 600 people in New York and New England, so yeah, it's possible.

You mean the Tri-State Tornado?
It was the longest-lived and longest-tracked tornado on record, and may also hold the record for the deadliest.
NittanyTiger1 4 years ago
I was talking about the Long Island Express hurricane.

The New England Hurricane of 1938. One of the deadliest hurricanes on record, before the 1900 Galveston Hurricane.
