Mainly, it was because he kept saying stuff to Dee Dee like, "Do you really think this is real?" or "Maybe we should stop." or something like that. I figured instead of saying it out of fear, he was trying to convince them not to continue so that they wouldn't find out that he was actually Ricky or something.

XD I'm glad I wasn't right though, it's always nice to have these little twists that you can't predict. ^_^
