  • Well im sold on the mpd now.

  • Hey, Nice tutorial!

I have the same setup but a small problem. check it out here if you have 2 min.

Is about Note Repeat and recording with it from a middle of a song and not from the start. It gets off sync. Does it happen to you aswell?

    Thanks

  • Hey you sayed that sync works aso via mtc. I dont get it to work with mtc. Only with midi clock, and its very sloppy. Somebody got this this really thight to work?? thx

  • Thanks mate, still I'd like to use the faders and other knobs but they don't work yet

  • how to sync tap tempo with logic on mpd32

  • how can i setup my alesis master control to logic 8 studio? pls help. thanks

  • Awesome, man. really helpful stuff, here :)

  • whats man im useing a mpk49 and a mpd32 i did everything you said cant get no sound when select a instrument can you help me out please

  • Great tutorial, impeccably explained. keep up the good work.

  • Are you changing the 1/8th notes and 16th notes on the mpd 32?

  • Thanks! Helped me a lot.

  • I know it's an old video, but using this I was able to set up the MPD 24 with Logic 9 the way I was desiring! Thanks and much appreciated! i'm gonna hit you with a subscribe and a like.

  • I've used this method to set up my Akai 88 with Logic Express 9. I did everything correctly, and the sync is working. However, it only works when I start the playhead from bar 1. If I pause and start at another location, the clock gets out of sync completely. Do I always have to start the playhead from bar 1 in order for the two clocks to be in sync, or am I missing someting? Thanks

  • I LOVE YOU. holly hell. ive been searching for a whole month about why the hell my note repeat was not on beat. and i swear NOBODY else says anything about, not even akai themselves. thank you

  • thanks man, helped alot (:

  • Thank you very much Dr Funk - this has been very helpful!

  • You the man!!!!!!

  • thanx so much!!! this helped a lot!!

  • Very helpful video thanks, however, I was wondering if you had any tips for live looping and performing live with logic with the mpd32. I cant seem to figure it out. If you had any sorts of advice or tips it would be very much appreciated.

  • This may sound like a dumb question, but how do i sync this up while im using a usb port insted of midi??

  • Quick 'n Easy! Thank You!

  • Ciao! Thanks for this tutorial!

  • Hi, I've got a question: To Sync an AKAI MPD 18 to Logic 9, are the same steps to made like in this video? you know go to "preference"-->"MIDI"-->"Sync", then Automaticly comes the Option "AKAI MPD 18"

  • Thanks worked for the MPD 26. really helpful.

  • I'm guessing this will work the same for the MPK61/88... I hope so cause I'm just about to install Logic and I have the 88...

Any ideas what happens when you rewire reason... do both the transports get triggered by the Logic transport?

  • @tube4andy

Yep, i doubt they changed anything internally, just added more keys.

I'd assume that if the MPK is triggering START in Logic, and you've rewired Reason, you're good to go.

  • thanx!!!

  • MPD 32, Logic, Motif 6= Confusion in Syncing. Im trying to control my Motif's sequences(pattern mode) with the MPD 32 using Logic. Is it possible. I see the MIDI signal, and can also get levels via audio in Logic. But the start is off slightly when I push play.??!! WTF?!!!

  • @MERCILESSMERCHANT

    yep, it will be.

Insert FOUR blank measures at the beginning.

this should do the trick for you.

  • can you post a download for your mpk logic template?

  • @beatryda5

don't have one. don't need one.

i adjust it daily depending on what i want it to do.

  • how can i install my mpd32 on my comp idonknow how i don have da cd roo,m

  • @micarnal2

you don't need a CD. No driver.

    plug it in. it works.

  • dude i need help it wont let me hear anything i have my mpk49 pluged in logic and when i press the keys it records it but cant hear any thing

  • @justkillen07

    "Input Monitor"

  • thanks, been trying to do that for months

  • @cashboy901

    =)

  • thanks for the info. i have a question about the arpeggiator. i'm running logic 9 and using an mpk49. i set it up just as you said to and everything is cool except for the arpeggiator. i can't get it to do anything. do you have any suggestions? thanks.

  • @jroc02 If you've got it all synced properly, nothing will happen until you start the transport. keep in mind, it's now waiting to receive timecode. If you hold down a note, the note won't actually sound until it gets the timecode from the master. (in this case, Logic is set to be the Master)

  • Heatdaddy how did you get your picture in picture effect on your mac? I know your using screen record, what else are you useing or does screen record uses the camera and record the screen at the same time?

  • SCREENFLOW is the APP.

    Very cool.

  • dude i just installed logic pro 9 and i really need help idk how to set up my mpk49 to it, its soo dam confusing

  • ok, where are you stuck? what are you trying to do? if it's just play sounds, it should be as easy as plugging it in, and assigning a VST to the channel. hit me back.

  • were can the vst be fond at?

  • hey can anyone tell me how to use sustain? i wanna use a sample nd i cnt sustain the note

  • plug in the sus pedal, into the sus pedal input in the back. it'll work for any of the other preset VSTS. when you say SAMPLE, which software are you using? if it's something like BATTERY, you'll have to check to make sure that it's able to be sustained in the VST. In some cases, you'll have to set the IN, OUT and LOOP times of the sample. that way, it will know where to continue playing the sample.

  • Will Logic map the mpd32 so the knobs will have a tool automatically assigned to them? I have always had trouble midi mapping keyboards to a DAW.

  • Logic doesn't map things automatically, except a control surface, like a Mackie Control, or a Master Control. Logic has a great MIDI LEARN function, which will allow you to pick something that you want to control, and then simply turn the knob/slider, and it's "learned". check it out, very cool.

  • excellent tutorial bro

  • thanks!

  • Hey how do you get the sliders and the nobs to control different settings in logic? Like volume, pan, ect.

  • this is exactly what im wanting to know! im using garage band

  • you need to use the MIDI LEARN function if your software has it. If not, you'll need to find out what the MIDI ASSIGNMENT NUMBERS are in the software. you can then go into EDIT mode on the MPD/MPK and set the control numbers to match that which you are trying to control.

  • Can I take what your doing here and apply it to Garageband?? for mpd32

  • sure can. works great.

  • great tutorial on the time division, I haven't used them since i been using the mpk, but they are definitely a welcome addition to my repertoire. look forward to speaking to you soon

  • yep, very cool to have everything locked and then be able to switch time divisions with the touch of a button.

  • if your using the mpk with logic, which im planning on doing. what would you use for your drum machine. like where are you sourcing your drum samples from? Ultrabeat? or would it be better to get something like Battery.... if thats the case then how would you work that shit out?

  • Great question.

I've been switching back and fourth.

The most MPC-"ish" one i use is Battery.

The EXS sample in Logic itself is pretty good.

Not sure which one i dig the most yet.

    stay tuned.....

  • thanx man, alot of help here

  • glad i could help

  • FANTASTIC! thank you so much. you're the man..

one tiny thing that nobody will probably have trouble with... GLOBAL>MIDI CLK is page 7, not 8. at least it is on mine. maybe i missed an update?

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

    all that gear setup.....and i can't COUNT!

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

    all good man. :)

  • Look man. You saved my fucking life. I mean I'm over exaggerating, but I can not begin to describe my frustration trying to do this. I bought the MPD32 controller, and have spent a lot of time. Reading forums and manuals to try and get this to work. Maybe I'm just a visual learner, but you've made my MPD32 actual worth the money I paid.

    Thank You !!!

  • HAHAHAHA!!!!

    Awesome man. Glad it helped.

I'm the same way, manuals SUCK!

Let me know if there are any other setup videos that i can do to help everyone.

    Thanks man.

  • i also tried running it through midi today no luck...it wont pick anything up at all through anything...ive followed every firmawre/software update...but when i try running the .syx in the vyzor upgrade it wont send it to the mpd

  • this could be a few different things. first, trying doing a factory reset on the MPD/MPK. it's in your Global menu and page all the way to the right. Then make sure you're on a GM Media patch on the MPD/MPK.

if it isn't being recognized on ANY D.A.W., it sounds like there's a conflict with your sound card.

    Which one do you have?

  • i got it working...i had to go into my reg editor and delet some usb devices...i also had to delete some logitech drivers

  • im on pc mate...specs are pretty good etc...i run xp too

    pz

  • yo do you use any other programs with this...i cante get my mpd32 to work with reason nuendo ableton live 7 battery reason 4.01 or anything...it doesnt seem to pick it up through usb...it powers up etc but on all these profgrams it will only let me assign to my midi input/output on my soundcard...which is no good really id rather it was done via usb...any help would be appreciated greatly mate...i have had it for a few days and just cant get it to work...i have been waiting for it for months

  • hmmmmm...ok....

    PC or Mac?

Get back to me, i'll bet we can get it workin.
