i just had this fixed, i had cracked springs new shocks. Its a one piece deal so you have to replace all of it. But i also had a cracking sound which came of the front torsion bars. The rubber bushings pretty much deteriorate leaving metal on metal contact. I can tell you dont have that yet. Your gonna need new shocks/springs.
You should notice the engine stumbling..if there is no change when u reach a certain spark plug, then that one is not firing .. and that would be your problem. put a new plug in that hole if that is the case and see if it starts to fire. If not, its your wiring or coil for that plug. Hope that helps a bit. Another trick thats even easier is to connect a timing light to each plug wire and see if the strobe activates for each one and note if it ocassionally misses as it is firing.
Maybe you have a bad cylinder ? Make sure all your spark plug wires are attached or coil on cap wires are attached. With the engine running you have to disconect each plug wire(with shielded plug pullers) or disconect the wires going to each individual coil on top of the spark plug.
You may have bad bearings in your water pump / tensioner pulley / alternator / ac pump or air pump if you have one. This would cause dag on your accesory belt and when your ac kicks on its even more drag. With the engine stopped, remove the serpentine belt and turn all the components by hand to see if you feel any drag. Ac usually robs about 5 hp i think not 100% sure on that one.
Transmission shifting varies with engine rpms and the ac pump is stealing power reducing your engine rpms. This is a normal thing with most vehicles and it doesnt feel right when you have to step on the pedal to get the transmission to downshift in order to speed up. Sounds like you may have a smaller engine in your vehicle? 4 cylinder 2litre? Smaller engines have more difficulty maintaing power when accessories are switched on. Worst case scenario u may have bad ac pump or sticking pulley.
turning on the air conditioning will take away power from the engine because an electric air conditioning clutch activates on the air condition pump which uses your accessory belt to pump fluid throught the system. this takes power from your engine. Also using the defrost will sometimes use the air condioning pump to speed up the defrost process...hence robbing a little power as well.
When the ML is squeekin' don't come peekin', faster faster harder harder oh oh ahhh
