  • 1 Timothy 2

15But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

The command to be fruitful and multiply is also a New Testament command.

People who think G-D is stupid because they don't understand his ways will be greatly embarrassed when they see him still sitting on the his throne ruling his Kingdom forever, while others will mourning from a far with intense jealously .

  • As the God of the Bible makes mistakes and has to be reminded of the foolishness of his proposed actions, I do not think we need to assume the bible is infallible. Take Exodus 32:7-14 where Moses had to remind God that he had made a promise to make the Israelites as numerous as the stars in the skies and also that it would give the wrong impression to the Egyptians if he took them out of Egypt just to destroy them. As soon as Moses died there was no one left to give God some good advice.

  • Christians using contraception are not aligning with the devil! Be realistic - over population IS real and historically the major cause for downfall of civilisations (through deforestation, soil salinity, water pollution etc) (read "Collapse" by J Diamond) with survivors moving to new places with forrests & fertile land - where will that be following global overpopulation? There's 5 acres per person? (is that arable land?) - How much will that be in 2 generation if everyone has a dozen children?

  • There is no over population the world is not over populated it is just being poorly run. There is enough land mass that every person alive could have more than five acres of land each.

  • Being fruitful and multiplying can become a god within itself. I cannot help but notice that the apostles didn't mention the command when they were teaching the new church in the book of Acts. Surely if it was really important in the new covenant it would have been reiterated. What is stressed? The spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This apostle lead emphasis on the gospel is sadly lacking in our churches today, including amongst those who put a great emphasis on procreation

  • There is a reason why feminism has never worked in 5,000 years or more or in any society. It isn't new. Nothing new under the sun. It is just the society collapses because women want the government to take care of them and the catch-22 the government doesn't have the money to take care of them. The system can work at best for maybe 1 generation or at most 2 but sooner or later it will collapse and another culture will take over where the women want children.

  • No culture has ever survived with a birth rate of 1.9 or less as no economic system can survive when you don't have enough young people and there are more older people then younger people. In fact governments are going to go bankrupt unless they bring in immigrants from other cultures. Which Europe is going to become Muslim and America will become Spanish or Muslim. It is ironic that people today are overly reliant on the government that will be bankrupt because they don't follow "be fruitful"

  • Yeah - seven billion people on this planet, but clearly *under*population is a pressing problem.

  • If people would just treat each other decently instead of being violent racists no group of people would need to breed soldiers for the next holy war.

    Peace!

  • what about abused children who have no home. take care of those first and then bring more babies here cos they need a safe home too.

  • Yes, God did say, "Be fruitful and multiply" but He did NOT say, "Every single person on the planet, I command you to have as many babies as you can churn out in your lifetime"!!!

Geez, I know people do tend to hack up the Bible to suit their purposes, but there are also those who misinterpret it to suit their own beliefs. Which is worse, hmmm?

I personally wish I could have had a lot more kids, but never would I tell anyone they HAD to have a certain number of kids... or any kids at all.

  • so many babies and children in foster homes, waiting for a loving parent or parents to adopt them - why not adopt them rather than creating more, fair enough adoption is a long process and is not for everyone, but there are so many unwanted children in the world and this woman says "create more." After all it is God's will to have an army at His disposel, right?

  • The command is to married couples, not every human being, single or married. Look at the context. This book answers a lot. Bryan C. Hodge, "The Christian Case against Contraception."

  • Personally I think the world has enough people... I've never had the desire to have children.

  • KIFulgore... I value your opinion but I cannot live by it...I will trust and obey the word of God instead. I suggest you look up the video on muslim demographics and then get back to me...

  • Thanks for the civility in your post :). My wife and I thought long about the decision, we just don't think children are the best thing for us... just not convinced I have the desire or the patience for kids. I certainly don't fault anyone for having children though... those who choose not to be parents tend to use overpopulation as an excuse (I guess I was too).

  • Actually, we are all commanded to fill the Earth. The scripture you are misusing simply bolsters the fact that eternal life in Christ is the ultimate reward. Use a bit of logic here...If no one is living out the command to be fruitful and multiply, then there will be no one to preach the gospel to! How dare you say that Jesus doesn't want us to make children who reflect the image of God! Take the word of God as a whole and stop making doctrines to suit a minority who may be called to singleness.

  • Every church I've ever been involved in discouraged the single adults from actively seeking a spouse. The Christians from my grandparents' generation assumed that while we seek guidance from God, getting married requires human effort for Christians just as it does for non-Christians. Sometime in the last 20-30 years, the church started hyper-spiritualizing the issue.

  • "For thus says the Lord, 'To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what pleases Me, and hold fast My covenant, to them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, and a name better than that of sons and daughters" (Isa. 56:4&5) Jesus said that there are those who have been made eunuchs for the sake of the gospel (Matt. 19:12). He said go ye therefore and preach the gospel. Not go ye therefore and make babies. 144,000 believers in Rev 14:2 were chaste, never defiled by women.

  • Singleness is purposeful if spent in service to others. Living for one's self is never beneficial. We are addressing the biblical command to be fruitful and multiply. It is impossible to create doctrine for our own purposes...the Bible doesn't say that singleness is a gift but Paul does say to be contenet...hope that helps???

  • What about the gift of singleness?

  • somebody done lied to you! lol.
