Metallica is a fantastic band, and those 80's bands allowed what influenced you, and your band to evolve into what it is today. You cannot say you love music, until you learn what is appealing with everything. If you do not learn, you are digging your own grave. Listen to Some classical or Jazz. You can learn so much from something you might consider "outdated", Hell you can even learn something new to bring to the table.

i've noticed a trend...so called metal core bands are starting to turn to synthesizers. Check out Chiodo's new album. It's ok I still very much enjoy it but just stating there have been some changes. I'm not big on mainstream at all because it ruins creativity. I understand wanting to appeal to the masses because lets face it their in it for the money but it just stifles creativity

One of the band members listed Slayer as one of their favorite bands on their myspace. Metallica is such a great influence on rock/metal, even if you don't like their music you can't deny that.
