  • Fuckin' Gilkesy!

  • My fave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I want that EAT shirt!

  • I always liked watching Martin Gilks' during this song - he never missed that cow bell once! Brilliant! RIP Martin and Bass Thing.

  • What a band but they never were as good with out the bass thing.

  • Went through a lot of time and trouble to see them at the Marquee in New York 1990, they headlined but came on a bit late, then Miles got pissed at some guy in front for some reason and after three songs said to us .."That's all you get!!" and walked off. Concert over. I felt ripped off but most people didn't seem to mind. Those three songs were bliss; one of them was "A Wish Away" and the whole place was dancing happy,

  • I've got this on vhs as well,i think circle square is before this one if i remember right,i recognize two people in the front dancing away lol

  • THE BASS THING!!! Awesome - and wonderful Martin - two of the most missed people Ive ever had the pleasure of watching perform x

  • Great song, and Miles is wearing a T-shirt of my fave band.

  • hup hup hup hup

  • it's a good job he wasn't called Michael.

  • This was always one of my favourite Wonder Stuff Songs...that and "Don't let me Down"

    I was 15 then sigh

  • 11 appalling videos

  • promos. :)

  • I was very fortunate to see The Wonder Stuff in Chicago, Illinois back in 1990 at The Vic Theatre, when they joined The Mission U.K.'s Deliverance tour. "Ruby Horse" was the very first Wonder Stuff song I ever heard. I own every album by them and have been a fan since 1988. Miles Hunt's use of the word "appalling" to describe their videos cracks me up. If you have seen their video collection, and hear Mr. Hunt narrate, it's quite funny.

  • one of the truly briliant bands,,great post..

  • This isn't from Toronto as I am in the crowd and I ain't been to Canada....

Unless I am mistaken It was for a show called Rock Steady and is actually recorded at Pinewood studios in front of an invited audience.

The band played 5-7 songs but only a couple made it onto tv.

god bless the f***** lot of us.......

  • still got my original Unbearable - T-shirt from i think 1987 small club tour

they played Wardour Street. marquee london

  • Anyone got this whole show on dvdr? I will do a trade as i have lots of rare 80s compilations and shows on dvdr.

  • 4k me thats nearly 20 yrs agooooooooooo!

I stil have my hair haha

  • Thanks, have this on video from a different UK TV show, fairly sure its from a show in Toronto!

I used to have one oif those Eat tour shirts that Miles is wearing, what the hell happened to it!

  • Thanks, have this on video from a different UK TV show, fairly sure its from a show in Toronto!

  • Hey, you have this on dvdr by chance? I am willing to do a trade if you like. Thx

  • Check out the hair on milo.

    Sweet vid.

  • where was this gig from i am wondering??

  • I originally saw this on a programme called Rock steady. The presenter was saying how much he was looking forward to their 3rd album.3rd album was shit though..apart from size of a cow and mission drive.Good to see Miles still touring though. His video diaries on his myspace are very good.

  • Hup wasn't a bad album I liked Big Oak Trees and Cartoon Boyfriend The Wonderstuff ended up becoming way too folky for me though

  • Was searching for PWEI and came across this crap.lol.

  • Crazy you like the poppies but hate the stuffies interesting i loved both bands.

  • far out!

  • the bass thing just rocks on this one

  • best band ever!!!!original line up were untouchable in their day. Saw them in glasgow last year, miles stormed off stage in sulk. Good to see things havent changed

  • Yeah, I "saw" them live in NYC Marquee Club, must have been 1990. They headlined with three bands on the bill. Came on very late... the crowd was a bit impatient by then, maybe... anyway, after three EXCELLENT songs some drunk guy in front pissed off Miles somehow and the 4th "song" was just a jam with little direction.... then miles sneered at us saying "That's all you get!" then walked off the stage. Big letdown.

  • Who is Gilkes...I only knew Miles Hunt...philistine that I am...!!!Is it a band member?

  • Enough !

    Raise a glass .

    Miss you Rob .

  • It's ironic u say 2"raise a glass" 2"The Bass Thing", b/c what started his downfall was alcoholism. His toxicology report said he died from advanced alcoholism/alcohol poisoning, cocaine/heroin O.D. He died on the floor of a slum apt he shared w/a junkie,"Jett", w/a needle in his arm, after she taught him to shoot up.She stole money from his bank account after his death,b/f she even called 911.

  • I loved this band & they were great live. Sorry to hear about the loss.

  • This was on a show called Rocksteady. They did Circle square before it..gREAT BAND

  • I agree. Great songs. I was married to The Bass Thing. I miss him still. He was very special.

  • my arse u was married to the bass thing

  • Yes, dear 17 year old child that you are, "your arse" that I was married to the Bass Thing (Rob Jones). We were wed in NYC, 1990.Why do you think it's so amazing? "My arse" would indicate your surprise? I am 51,& was 8 yrs Robs sr.We could be your parents, but I am certain no child of mine would make an unprovoked aggressive comment like "My arse u was married to the bass thing" particularly when the subject is deceased, and you are writing to his widow.

  • That is awful.I loved this band. Are they still together? I am very sorry for your loss.x

  • Thank you.Martin Gilkes was the drummer.Rob was ok w/him.Miles & Malc were the reason Rob split to NYC.Miles was a "little Hitler" and Malc was a smart mouthed follower of Miles.Rob got sick of being treated like the "tea boy" by them.Miles was jealous b/c Rob had charisma & got more attention from fans.

  • what an ill fated band.I am really upset to hear all this. Ignorance is bliss, truly. They 'theme tuned' my late teens and were the 1st band i saw when i was a student at manchester university on a freezing Dec at the GMEX. So sorry....

  • PS: I am the same one as LilEvie156, just writing from a different computer tonight. LilEvie156 and Indio156 are both the same person, and we were both Mrs. Rob Jones, fyi.

  • Wow, 6th form flashback! Look at Miles' bumfluff chinbeard! Sad to think The Bass Thing and Gilksey have both gone. Where was this filmed?

  • I was married to The Bass Thing, but when he left the band we went to America and never looked back. How did "Gilksey" die??? And when?

  • He was knocked off his motorbike in April 06. You can Google The Times or the Independent for his obit. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I was a fan from way back when. x

  • He seemed nice, but he mostly didn't hang out with the band. When they were recording, and Rob couldn't come to NYC (he used to come to NYC for a few days every week, and go back on weekends for gigs), then I went to LDN, and we all stayed in a corporate flat by Grt.PortlandSt.Sta.But Gilkes stayed with his wife, and stayed to himself (lucky guy, cuz Malc was a dickhead!)

  • I fucking love this song! Any chance you have "Circlesquare" from round this time as well? Nice one, cheers man.

  • 8 legged groove machine is one of the most under rated indie albums of the 80s, these guys were great in their heyday....
