Great to see this. My grandfather, Tom Fletcher, (after whom I was named) was the Manager of The Red Lion for some time. We stayed at 'The Lion' whenever we visited Billericay prior to my family's emigration to Canada in 1962. I have vivid childhood memories of Lake Meadows, The Chantry and the Billericay Museum on High Street.
Cinema closed later than that we moved here on 12 August 1969 and my sisters & I used to go there in the 70's so I think it must have closed about 1972/73 and became the Bingo Hall
Yes, it was in Great Chapel Street called the Ritz. I used to work there as an assistant in the projection box after school at the age of around 14! They some times had wrestling there too, it seated around 600 people. It closed around 1967
Absolutely brilliant. Many thanks for putting this on Youtube. Interesting to see how times have changed, and, in some cases, have not! I was originally from Brentwood but moved to beautiful Billericay a few years ago and love it!
2 interesting point's for me.The opening sequence must have been taken from almost right outside our bungalow as we lived opposite the wooden Mayflower sign. I was also a choirboy at the church in the high street featured. I joined in 1962 and left when my voice broke in 1966.!! I think shouting for Enland in the World Cup quickened that up!!How weird to see this as it was!!.
Many things have not changed. Some have. I was born in '55 in Billericay and grew up there. Thanks for sharing and, in respect of those things that have changed, thanks for the memories.

We used to have a cinema? What a pity it's gone! I'm a Billericay newbie - only lived here 22 years lol!
