I used to have a Barefoot Tahoe. I liked it but had to sell it. Been a year without a saddle now - lol. Did you say that your Cheyenne is the Drytex model? Have you had any trouble with the drytex rubbing through under your stirrup leathers?
Yeah, my Cheyenne was the DryTex model. I never had trouble with the stirrup leathers rubbing through because I have fleece/sheepskin (something?) sleeves on them.
I've since sold my Barefoot and bought a Sensation Western.
hello :) i'm thinking of going treeless with my TB as he has saddle damage and a really sore back all the time because of it. do they feel secure to ride in or are they just like barebackpads with stirrups?
Well, I fail at the game of checking text comments. Sorry this is months late.
Most of the good treeless saddles have foam panels or something (I know the Barefoots have VPS, the Sensations have some kind of panel) so I think they're more like "soft" tree saddles, and you have some spinal clearance and protection.
It's fairly secure to ride in, but you'd have to determine for yourself if he would suit being treeless depending on his build. It's not a placebo effect after all.
Well, I was rather partial to the Cheyenne DryTex for the sake of the cost ($550 vs. $899 -- of course, you get what you pay for, but still...)
... at the moment, the DryTex was the only one I could afford. Hence, why I got it. But over time, I might look into getting another Barefoot in a western style.
well. he was working very hard in a ride school 3-4h a day 6times in week. He's 13/14 but he got problems with legs...
He couldn't run too much so he was working with children and I think there is the problem... Too much longeing... His nek is complitley stiff if fou onley wear the bridle... on halter there is every think ok...
Well, the thing you'd have to figure out is what is causing him to move stiffly. For Mitch, his old saddle was restricting his shoulders and bridging on his back, and by moving to a treeless saddle, it freed him up, and he was able to move better.
Treeless isn't for every horse out there, and it depends on his body conformation too. But you could always get a demo to try, and see how it works. There's a couple out there.
I don't know what to do. Now, I'm trying Parelli so I think I will ride on halter... but it doesn't solve the problem..(the saddle is also not so good because it's old and I think it's the cheapest one there was...)
