Bonomo's Turkish Taffy was discontinued in 1989. I heard it was because it was highly acidic and even worse for kids' teeth than other candies. It made a comeback in 2010. It must make dentists richer than any other candy!
@kangadillo Not true. It was discontinued by Tootsie Roll, because they wanted to concentrate on their other products. It is not acidic, and not worse than any other candy containing sugar.
I watched The Magic Clown when I was a kid but he didn't look like this. He wore a black hat, and he had a partner named Glamour Gail. Does anyone remember him? Do you know who the actor was?
@kangadillo You're thinking of the 1958-9 and final version of this show, in which the Magic Clown was played by mimic-cartoonist-puppeteer Doug Anderson, who was assisted by his wife, Gayle, a former model. That version ran on WNTA Channel 13 in New York -- the dial position now owned by PBS.
@horarwgt It was filmed in Canada, but was meant for the states. It was filmed there because productions costs were cheaper. It was filmed at CFTO in Toronto. You are correct in that it was not a success. It was shown in several markets, but did not have widespread distribution. My recollection is that Chicago was one of those markets.
It's Turkish Taffy, so the kids in the audience are all wearing fezzes, LOL. Then give the kids some free samples at the beginning of the show & they'll chew away for the whole 15 minutes. Bonomo Turkish Taffy kept a lot of dentists in business in the old days. I remember the banana flavored Turkish Taffy, which I hated, but I'd still eat it when Daddy bought it. After all, it was still candy.

The 1970's syndicated version of"The Magic Clown"(which had "The Amazing Randi"as the
fourth and last host/performer to play the character)was the last version of the show to air.

No, this is not the Amazing Randi. This is from the early 1950's. The Amazing Randi was the Magic Clown around 1970.

@waynomo The Amaxing Randi version was an attempt to revive The Magic Clown in Canada. It was produced in 1970 but failed.

I'm not sure if it's THIS magic clown, but there was a brief period where James Randi played this character.
He told the story on the Amazing Show Podcast. Even if this isn't Randi's version, that sure makes it all the more interesting.

This was a 15 minute series on NBC's late Sunday morning schedule, seen between 1949 and '54.
