Can someone please explain to me why Jesus is so talked about? I'm not exactly religious however one of the main things i don't understand is that this guy, real or not, has provoked faith in billions of people and is more talked about then REAL LIFE humans such as Hitler or Caesar. I think the main point of intellectual atheism is dismissal of unsubstantiated claims. Faith can justify some pretty outrageous stuff, as well as incorporate some universal moral messages. I can't attack the entire message, but the many ridiculous claims and celebration of entirely immoral actions.
The message of Christ is that it is acceptable and desirable to redeem ourselves through scapegoating, specifically through human sacrifice.
We reject the gospel because it's full of talking snakes, talking donkeys, infanticide, genocide, rape, incest, etc.

Noone today accepts punishing the innocent for the sins of the guilty in this world. Also, what jesus supposedly did was NOT a sacrifice! It would have been a sacrifice if he died and never rose. He did not die. He rose again to the right hand of God after some pain and three days dead. He endured no permanent effects that could be called a sacrifice. These are just a few ways in which i as an atheist completely disagree with the very core of your message.

I can honestly say that I am an atheist and yet I still follow some of the teachings of the bible. Not all of them, but the ones that make plausible sense to me such as "thou shalt not murder" and "thou shalt not commit adultery" (just to name a few). I get the message and understand it I just do not see any real reason to believe in an eternal creator in order to adhere to that msg. For me it is strictly a guideline on how one is should live a moral life and is to be used as such.

Well think about it this way in a Christian vs. Atheists point of view. If I (a Christian) is wrong and an Atheist is Right, we both won't know it cause we'll both be dead. Religions have ruined society since their origin 70,000 years ago when they started sacrificing spear heads to Pythons. Stupid, gullible people are always going to accept the ideas that are easier to understand, and will be satisfied with not truly understanding the world around them as long as they get to hold on their security blanket. The only way to stop this and establish a truly secular society is by showing and explaining the truth.
Try to think of it this way. The person you're arguing with will probably not accept or be open to your ideas because most people who actually try to defend their unproven beliefs will not accept evidence, they already deny it. But there might be a third party who reads the conversation who might be on the fence about things and when reading the conversation, they might be convinced towards the grandeur of a realistic worldview.

As a matter of fact, I would take any example of a miracle - that is, an event which cannot be naturally explained - that has ever occurred during a period when history was accurately recorded. I have read the bible and used to be an avid churchgoer and I am ashamed to admit it. I'm very familiar with the scriptures, but the more I read the more I understood.... that it was complete and repulsive bronze age folklore bullshit! The only way to see beauty in the bible is to dismiss most of it and selectively choose to read the parts that sound warm and fuzzy. Science has backed religion into a corner. I'm suprised how many people still carry those beliefs given the overwhelming evidence!
The majority of christians are Gap worshippers. That is, they see holes in science and immediately default to their beliefs without subjecting them to the same scrutiny or requirements that they impose on what they disagree with or don't want to believe.
Trust me man, I was TOTALLY sold on the bible once, witnessing, passing out tracts, church >twice weekly, praying, acting on faith, etc., but I was young, impressionable, and uneducated. I eventually learned that the whole thing was a work of fiction and realized that I developed a very delusional and naive outlook on everything. a genuine Christian has a personal relationship with God. One who has a relationship with God has been forgiven of sin, by accepting Jesus Christ.
Because there is no way we can ever make-up for our sins, Jesus had to pay the consequence for us. Sin of a perfect man (Adam) paid by a perfect man (Jesus).
Thus, we can have our sins completely forgiven only through Jesus. -John 14:6.

I think the main point of intellectual atheism is dismissal of unsubstantiated claims. Faith can justify some pretty outrageous stuff, as well as incorporate some universal moral messages. I can't attack the entire message, but the many ridiculous claims and celebration of entirely immoral actions.
The message of Christ is that it is acceptable and desirable to redeem ourselves through scapegoating, specifically through human sacrifice.
I don't think the story is worth considering.

I can honestly say that I am an atheist and yet I still follow some of the teachings of the bible. Not all of them, but the ones that make plausible sense to me such as "thou shalt not murder" and "thou shalt not commit adultery" (just to name a few). I get the message and understand it I just do not see any real reason to believe in an eternal creator in order to adhere to that msg. For me it is strictly a guideline on how one is should live a moral life and is to be used as such.

Zacharias, Job, Elizabeth, Noah, etc. There are also a number of ways you can redeem yourself besides Jesus, mainly animal sacrifices. (How did people before Jesus get saved?) . I'm agnostic and what i don't get is why are so many people fighting and killing each other because they don't believe the same things. They preach but they have nothing to show for it, they keep doing the same things everyday. I choose not to live in a life where i feel i have done something wrong (sinner) as soon as i am born into the world.
I have asked my christian friends where dinosaurs come from but they can't answer me. Can someone explain? Were they on Noahs ark?

Well think about it this way in a Christian vs. Atheists point of view. If I (a Christian) is wrong and an Atheist is Right, we both won't know it cause we'll both be dead. But If I'm right and an Atheist is wrong, then the Atheist is the one that is going to be fucked. Reason being, they didn't believe in God and take Christ as a savior, therefore we are sinful and we can't enter a ETERNAL afterlife. We can't, God doesn't hate the person, he hates sin, and thats why he sends some to hell.

Try to think of it this way. The person you're arguing with will probably not accept or be open to your ideas because most people who actually try to defend their unproven beliefs will not accept evidence, they already deny it. But there might be a third party who reads the conversation who might be on the fence about things and when reading the conversation, they might be convinced towards the grandeur of a realistic worldview.

As a matter of fact, I would take any example of a miracle - that is, an event which cannot be naturally explained - that has ever occurred during a period when history was accurately recorded. Miracles have been decidedly less common, and much less impressive the better our historians and overall understanding of the world around us have gotten. I don't think this is a coincidence.

although anyone can make up stories about meeting different god's, there is one God who's encounters have revealed similar attributes and characteristics of this one God. plus, many of these writers didnt collabo with all the other writers. & the other writers' accounts weren't readily available to each other.
Those accounts are bound together, as the Bible.

I don't think Jesus was intentionally lying. In many cases, when people see prophesies and want them come true, they will act to make them come true. Jesus may well have been raised to believe that he did not have an Earthly father, and was the messiah. In which case he was simply delusional.

'Jesus' is the English translation of 'Yeshua', the same way 'God' is the English translation of 'Allah', same way 'What' is the English translation of 'Nani' in Japanese... letters change when translating a word from one language to another especially when the symbols them selves are completely different.
The four Gospels have no selfish themes at all. If anything it teaches us to be selfless.
As for Johns statements he makes it clear that all the testimonies are true, John 21:24.

I have read the bible and used to be an avid churchgoer and I am ashamed to admit it. I'm very familiar with the scriptures, but the more I read the more I understood.... that it was complete and repulsive bronze age folklore bullshit! The only way to see beauty in the bible is to dismiss most of it and selectively choose to read the parts that sound warm and fuzzy. Science has backed religion into a corner. I'm suprised how many people still carry those beliefs given the overwhelming evidence!

Trust me man, I was TOTALLY sold on the bible once, witnessing, passing out tracts, church >twice weekly, praying, acting on faith, etc., but I was young, impressionable, and uneducated. I eventually learned that the whole thing was a work of fiction and realized that I developed a very delusional and naive outlook on everything. Perhaps I was intellectually lazy when I was younger, but I can't really say what made me a christian. Ignorance was bliss I must say, but the truth meant more to me.

a genuine Christian has a personal relationship with God. One who has a relationship with God has been forgiven of sin, by accepting Jesus Christ.
Because there is no way we can ever make-up for our sins, Jesus had to pay the consequence for us. Sin of a perfect man (Adam) paid by a perfect man (Jesus).
Thus, we can have our sins completely forgiven only through Jesus. -John 14:6.
w/ forgiven sin, we can have a relationship with a Sinless God.

My personal relationship with god, which was as real as anything in this world to me at the time, turned out to be a product of my own ignorance and gullibility. The more I learned of the bible and of science, the more the bible began to appear to me as a book of fairy tales.I am very embarassed to even admit that I actually believed the bible and that I had a close relationship with a god that really doesn't exist.

Atheism is generally a lack of belief in unnatural causes for natural phenomena.

How do we determine if an eye witness testimony is valid? We can't cross-examine here, so we have to resort to other eye witness accounts to see if the story checks out. However, there are no other reliable eyewitness accounts in history of Jesus performing the miracles explained in the Bible.
I dismiss the idea that Jesus is "the Savior" on the grounds that you cannot present me any conclusive evidence that he is other than the Bible. The Bible is not a reliable record of historical events.

What do I know about the Bible? I've read all the way through three versions of the Bible. The NIV once, the KJV once, and the Amplified twice. The Bible is the reason that I'm an atheist. What is means to "accept Jesus" differs with how each individual interprets those words. There is no reason to accept that your interpretation is entirely congruent with Paul's ... or that Paul's is congruent with Jesus' ... or that Jesus' is congruent with God's (assuming he exists).
When seeking absolute truth, we weary of those who claim it. The only absolute truth, may be that absolute truth can be pursued but never known.

Do you think someone can be a real christian just because they claim the label of christian, when they REJECT the bible? does that not sound like a delusion or demonic possesson to you???

we reject it because a) its a lie, b) its ancient myths, c) it is child abuse, d) it is extremely dangerous, e) it blinds you to the whole world of truths surrounding you f) it is tailor made for facsists and corporations to control you, g) you insist on electing people and appointing judges who make laws against us, etc etc etc need three or four more alphabets.

Men perverted Jesus's gospel. If we lived the way He told us to live, the world would be a much better place. Jesus Christ is real. I've seen Him. I have been healed, and rescued many times. There "is" another world right here that we cannot see with our eyes. Yoga, meditation, and breathing rhythms will set you up for contact. It's true. I know it seems unattainable, but I know that the other world exists. Alter your breath, alter your reality.

Everything I say about Jesus Christ is from "experience," not from other's words, or writings. I'm not delusional at all. These things really happened to me. All I can do is tell you. If you choose not to listen, and to laugh, that is your loss. Your spirituality is dead. I feel sorry for you. And, again, you are in for a big surprise when you pass over.
