I think some comments here are unnecessarily cynical and ignorant - I mean, give Glenn Close a chance to have the glory of her acting job in what looks like a charming film. I'm thinking of Barbra Streisand in Yentl. She was wonderful as a man, but I think Close gives herself over to it and that is admirable. I think there were all winners at the Oscars this year!

I think Glenn Close deserves the Oscar. I haven't watched the Iron Lady yet to be honest but Close gives a remarkable performance, very simple, very touching and deep. I really liked this film.

the premise of the movie isn't a lesbian liaison.They could have made a similar movied based on the lifet of female writer George Sand who even wrote novels under a male nom de plume as it was rare for women to get published.in this movie however one of the central problems is to gather enough cash to set up a Tobacco shop in Dublin's poorest neighborhood.The victorian era didn't leave much room for women to make decisions on their own.Unless those were alley whores.
