  • i have a rick 360/6 and i was wondering how i can get the tone you have for yours. my strings are buzzing and i think i should raise the bridge a bit. what do you think?

  • @Deel73 You need a 12-string to get the sound that I'm getting here. Another thing that helps is the 7.4k scatterwound pickups. If you have a 12-string with pickups wound closer to 11-12k (as they were in the late 80s and 90s), then your 12-string would sound muddier.

As for the strings buzzing, that could be a few different things. You could try raising the bridge, adjusting the truss rod (a quarter turn, or two, more relief), and maybe look into flatwounds. I was playing with flatwounds here.

  • Where did you buy your amazing guitar ???!!!:)

  • i's good to hear a guy at your young age appreciate classic music made before you were born .Great playing and tone.

  • omg, this probably the most beautiful guitar i have ever seen, i m losing consciousness, ohhhhhh ahhhh

  • THINK YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO A TUTORIAL ON THIS ONE ? THAT WOULD BE SUE - WHEAT !

  • 1:10 to 1:27 Great job on the solo! Very jingly, like it should be. Great, great job.

  • WHAT AMP ARE YOU PLAYING THAT ON. IT SONGS SO FANTASTIC . PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS ! OH - CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT YEAR THE AMP IS ALSO.

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES It is a 1998 Vox AC30 TBX, made in England. I had a little work done on its inner components to make it sound more like an original JMI Vox.

  • whered you get tabs for this?

  • DO YOU TUNE YOUR RIC A HALF STEP DOWN ? ARE YOU TUNING YOUR E-A-D- SECOND STRINGS A FULL OCTAVE HIGHER ? YOU SOUND FANTASTIC !

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES Hi, thanks! My guitar is tuned up to pitch. The octave strings on the E-A-D-G are all one full octave higher :).

  • You're up picking on the chorus, right?

  • @sprague49 Yes sir... I like the sharp sounds you can get up picking on that part...

  • well, you wont be wrong. that tune has it all. how about the intro to "you bowed down" by roger m'guin, written by e. costello (saw him play it on es-335 12 string). i think its a perfect descending 12 string riff that i bet you won't stop playing over and over.

  • since you do byrds stuff too. you gotta love the intro to "what you're doin' " with the slightly modified mr. tambourine man riff..i play 'em both so much , i often start mixing 'em up by mistake. my fingers are too fat for ricky's so i have my own gear solutions. i admire how meticulously you have assembled all the proper gear, even modding the ac-30 to jmi specs. sheesh !

  • @LanceHelmut I love The Byrds. I should do a few of their songs sometime soon. One of the first ones would be "It Won't Be Wrong." I love the opening riff in that one too.

  • @LanceHelmut Have you ever played a Rickenbacker 660/12? They have a slightly wider fretboard, but I'm sure you knew that. Plus, my 360/12 has been modified by a former Rickenbacker employee that lives in Washington state. He recut the nut for me, repositioning the string pairs so the strings of each pair are closer together, and the pairs are further apart. That is the formula used in the 60s and 70s by Rickenbacker... so it plays more like a 6-string. :)

  • you deserve waaay more like's. iconic guitar. iconic solo. if people only knew how much an amateur has to bust his/her behind to learn.

  • @LanceHelmut Thanks! I've always loved this solo too. It's a song I wish they would have played live. :)

  • Best cover of this song yet...right guitar, close enough amp and that sweet jangle tone from the record that I can only seem to get with a Janglebox compressor, but you nailed with nothing but the cable. How'd you do it?

  • @RockandRollFan1991 Thanks. Any other songs you'd like to see? I do have a Janglebox, which I love, but I don't feel that I need to use it to get Beatle tone. I do use the Janglebox for some Byrds songs though.

The 360-12 has flatwounds on it which helps... (Pyramid roundcores and Thomastik Jazz Series are great) The pickups are scatterwound toasters which are around 7.4k... and the AC30 has been modified by Don Butler in LA (tone-man.com) to sound closer to the JMI Vox amps of the 60s.

  • @s2seltaeb I own a 360/12V64 from '87, which ALWAYS has Thomastik flats on it. The amp I use is a Fender Deluxe Reverb, which is perfect for any style of music I choose. As for a request, surprise me! But I'd love to see the Tennessean get more action, too, as I really enjoyed the video of how George plays "I'm Down" you made. Very close to the original.

  • @RockandRollFan1991 If your 360-12v64 has 12k toasters, that's the culprit in the quest for jangle. My uncle has a 1988 McGuinn 370-12 and the toasters from that period are too hot and it's impossible to get the right tone, even with a Janglebox. You should have them swapped out for 7.4k scatterwound toasters. I think you could make your money back because some people are looking for those 12k toasters from the 80s and 90s. Some people seem to like them for 6 string work.

  • @RockandRollFan1991 Sounds good... I'll definitely be doing some more Tennessean videos. It's my holy grail guitar. It has 11 Thomastik flats on it :). Funny you mention the "I'm Down" video I did... I keep getting thumbs down on that one for some reason. Maybe I didn't have the AC30 up loud enough! ;)
