She is so awesome.... All about the music and not trying to sell her sexuality (and she could). She's one of the last great and SERIOUS musicians left. Long live real Jazz!!! And God bless Diana Krall! This muh GURL!!!
I love trying to be DK! I'm ready to sing "Peel Me a Grape" at every chance I get and my entire family knows this! I really thought I sounded just like her...until someone recorded me! OMG! But I don't care, I have been a fan since she started out. Saw her at the Foxx Theater and the fans (guy's) went wild! She smiled and said, it must be the red shoes! Needless to say, I bought red shoes too! Now that's a true fan!
I read all the comments before I wrote mine and I say to those who think
Saw her at a jazz festival several years ago. Was all ready to hate cuz the men were all going nuts. This chica is totally awesome sooooooo guess ya gotta love her.
Saw Diana Krall do this song live at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in 1999- had a table fifteen feet away- drinking some good cabernet as well- great night and we all new what was going to happen from there...;)
This song is by Stan Frischberg, one of the greatest and funniest songwriters ever. I really don't know how she can play piano and still sing like that at the same time. Wow.
@yodellikeyoumeanit09 It's called double entendre and it's a way of being naughty without actually spelling things out. Only super filthy people can figure it out! LOL
Malheureusement? Je sais pas....................... :) Je suis trop franche? Oui, c'est ca.
I saw Diana at the Annenberg Center, University of Pennsylvania, in May of '99. Intimate setting, her star was rising and her talent sizzled. Let me tell you that she can punctuate her vocals with that piano! That is her amazing and natural strength.
She played; "I'm An Errand Girl For Rhythm" and she was hitting those keys so-hard, making that thing shout and at the end it was as though the piano exploded. I feel very privileged to have been there to witness it all.
Hey! Are you Dusty lovers out of your minds?? He was not playing and singing! He was being playful to a singer who could be played....and get the crowd going...oh my god. Stupid.
Diana is a piano player AND can interpret the concept of the song.....
Diana's piano playing is just unparalleled. Not a lot of artists can sing so smoothly and play the piano so..."prettily" together. This is just plain-old pretty. And sexy. And smooth. And....sexy.
I'm very picky about my ladies singer and Barbra and Linda lead the pack; however, Diana has a seductive quality in her voice that allures you, hook's you, and makes you listen! So, I'm listening!!!!
They didn't get any shouts on "The Jools Holland Show" which this clip is from. And I doubt they're the same musicians who recorded on Krall's last album.
Being a session musician means that you get to play with talent, but you rarely/never get the accolade. It goes with the territory.
I'm sure they don't mind and if they did, they can start an amazing act that gets on The Jools Holland Show, with them as the star.
Well, marybest1, I listened to DSpringfield's rendition because you commented on it. She is fun and light and sings completely in tune - a lovely and pleasurable experience. But it is a different ball game. No comparison possible with DK's diction. I feel happy that I like both. Abrzz.
Check out the other version of this. The sound is much better. It doesn't have very many views. I've tried to post a link but my comment will not post with it.
This is the song I once heard back in the late 90's, and I just thought... now this is "Jazz"...and well, of course in this case, sexy Jazz...she definitely is (the music) rooted...I wonder who was her influence, and who may have inspired and encouraged her, for I'm sure she really studied... this woman is fabulous!!!
Oscar Peterson as my Mentor was her Mentor and she shadowed him for years. From a vocal point though I don't know. I like her voice - it suits/fits her style and is nice and easy to listen to. It's not my favorite female voice, but she's good and she's one heck of a pianist!
Dave Frishberg wrote the tune. Check out his CDs. All of his lyrics are fantastic. My other favorite Frishberg songs: "My Attorney Bernie" and "Slappin' the Cakes on Me".
Which direction does brooke (whoever she is) and her talent go - better or worse than Diana Krall. If it is on 'Idol', I guess it's going pear-shaped for brooke, as most music on American/Australian/Bulgarian Idol tends to...
Just awesome. I love how much in command she is. I think she is a musician's musician. Her timing and phrasing are impeccable, totally effortless. The musicians sound like their instruments play themselves (with a singer like her, in a way it is exactly like this). Her cool "no drama queen" approach might not please everyone though.
BTW: is that white keyboard on stage a Mellotron M400?
Before you consider an artist "boring," take into consideration how she interprets a classic...and pay close attention to her PLAYING....so many classic voices don't both sing AND play.......
personally I think Mz Krall has a fantastic voice low and sultry..changing the timing up enuff to bring a fresh aspect to the classics..yet close enuff to the original to show respect
i wanna peel yeah :-)
