The Suikoden series really is one of the greatest RPG series of all time. I think it trumps even Final Fantasy It's unfortunate that they don't seem to be making a 6th. Fans out there may want to consider the DS version of Suikoden. It's a DS game so obviously it dosen't compare with the others but it still isn't a bad game. It has a decent plot, a nice weapon customization system as well as the ability to wield 2 weapons, and the 108 stars though the recruitment is not as well developed.

The Suikoden series are so damn underrated. I wouldn't mind if there were a Suikoden 6 and I believe that there should be some OAVs based on the Suikoden games. Those would really make my day.

@jacobson999975 4 does not tie in with 3 , as it is a 450 year prequil to it on the forming of the island nations it is still a very good game if you can accept the 4 man party , getting all 108 stars is very challenging in that one but some of the characters are loveable as all games and it is rather challenging to do 100% all around id rate it one of the better middle ones , if only it had a better war system it would be a great game.

3 had it's flaws, but the trinity sight system was wonderful and strengthened the storyline immensely. That system would have greatly benefited 2 and 5, allowing us to play as the antagonists Jowy, Luca, Arshtat or (spoiler alert)Sialeeds. Suikoden's plots have always been their strength. I wish they hadn't fucked up 4.The island nations could have been so cool if the boats were faster and with more islands more colorful characters and the plot was just better, it could have been amazing!

My favorite were I & II they had a best story good characters and they were 2D in a good way my favorite characters were Tir Mcdol and Riou they are so awesome. III i never played because it was not releases in Europe (which sucks) but i have read the manga though, IV was okay but the boat thing was a annoying but tactics made a little better, V was great had the torch of I &II but the gameplay was kind of slow and Teirkries was great also but it had nothing to do with the story...

suikoden IV or 5 Is for sure made the first series and It plays It. I Often if this game was ment to be this way, talking about 4 of course. The things I love about 4 Is Janene! She Is a sexy powerful spell Caster and you get to use her. hehe she Is easy. Ted, and the First person view was amazing. to bad the controls sucked but I somewhat got used to them. I will Give a mini review so far on the games I am playing or played. Any game in this series is by far the most rewarding with castle/ship and all the characters.

1. was good and had those WOW moments that made me want more when It ended. Not being able to run with out a rune sucked

2. Best so far... the characters were cool and the music was so odd but it worked the story and music made that game

3. good story... the game grew on me

4. playing and Is good so far

Well, according to the Life Cycle Span, all the Suikoden story started in Suikoden 4, i think a hundred years later, the second story of suikoden, suikoden 5, continuing on Suikoden 1, 2, then 3. In how Ted Recieve the soul eater, Tir McDohl was there.. how come in suikoden 4, Tir was not there anymore? Tir, Victor, Cleo and the Others were sent back to the 300 years past where now, Ted will be receiving the Soul Eater, then Tir and the others came back to the present.. the sory i somehhow mixed

Tir, Cleo and Pahn only got to see the story behind Ted's curse, it didn't actually mean that he went back in time and became a part of the incident. As for the story between Ted and the Fog Ship Guide, I think Konami just added it in as a story to have Lazlo (Suiko IV hero's name) meet with Ted and have them share some moments together.

Lets see. My absolute favorite Suikoden game was 3 because it was the first of the series that I had ever played. I enjoyed it so much more then any Final Fantasy game that I had played up to that date.

As for the series as a whole 1 deffinatly had a great story and interesting characters. 2 probibly had the best story and characters of all the games. 3 you had a little difficulty in following the story but it kept it interesting. 4 boring as hell. 5 story was good. Also in 4 there was TED!!!

Suikoden I and II were similar. But it just doesn't feel the same in the other Suikodens. I would love to see an anime of Suikoden II. Not that Genso Suikoden and Nash shit. The thing I didn't like that much about Suikoden II was Riou himself. Also, his character image was lame.

4/tactics occured around the same time but tactics is mostly after 4 but some parts were before 4's storyline

5 is next timeline wise only 2-3 years before 1 if I am correct.

Well the first time around with 3 I really hated it. Mainly because it didn't pick up where 2 left off like how 2 was only 3 years after 1 so I didn't get to see all the people (Nobody) from 2 that I was hoping to see.

With 4 I just didn't like the scenery and character design, granted the design was meant to fit the setting, but I just didn't take to the whole boat thing. Plus it takes AGES to get anywhere without Viki XD and 4 Character parties fail. But 4 did have 1 saving grace: TED!!

If you ever played mgs4, think of magus as liquid ocelot, he worked for everyone, betrayed everyone and always acted cool and never made a mistake. Why do i think Magus is cool above other rpg villians= He is half elf and half vampire, he is a full mystic wizard, his outfit is kool, he does not use a sword but a scythe, he always says something philosophical and kool statements, he is calm and collect, HE CAN FLY. etc etc etc etc. i hate Sephiroth, he aint cool. Id kindly must disagree with you eriMeow. MAGUS from Chrono Trigger is the best boss bad guy in any rpg. Luca Blight was a bad ass, but i think Luc is better then his. Luc's performance in suikoden 3 as the bad guy was a masterpiece.

I actually think Magus was rather a typical bad guy when you look at the scope of villains in Japanese RPG and anime. Long-hair, mysterious, ultra-powerful. All things that could describe Magus and all things that would describe a ton of other villains in JRPGs. I liked Magus just fine but I don't see why he's THAT cool.

What about the third one sucked exactly? I'd really like to know your reasoning for such a bold statement. It was different, and it lacked focus on a single character, but was essentially the same in many respects. None of the suikoden games suck, each one is just different from another. Personally I like four the least because of the design of the main character, the rest of the characters have personality, and the story is strong.

The main characters were quite poor, the battle system was broken (particularly the character pairing), the graphical transition to 3D lost the anime/traditional Japanese aesthetic that made the first two great, the soundtrack was abysmal (worst flaw for me, the first Suikoden IMO has the greatest video game soundtrack ever). The game overall was just uninteresting, failed to do the things that made the first two games great and also failed to introduce anything new & positive to the series.
