  • that horse has some legs!!

  • I dont understand (cant the horse move on its own) and i can tell the horse is even more confused. This is not how to start a horse, and you call it successful? On a first ride a horse should be ASK forward, walk trot lope, left, right, and back... then thats it your done for the day or even two days, and why is the rider wearing flip flops! YOUR JOKING RIGHT!

  • The horse is irritated you can tell by the way he is swishing his tail and by the head position. the tack is poorly put on. this is not the proper way to break in a horse

  • That horse looks soo scronny! It is very thin looking! Or is it just me??????

  • I think you have a typo in the title. Isn't it supposed to be How Not To Break In A Horse?

  • hey i ride with no helmet and im just fine and he looks like he can make his desision im younger than him and sometimes i ride with tennis shoes or mud boots usually and i ride a real younge horse bout 2 years old and i had to break her myself

  • I wouldn't suggest this method to anyone I knew breaking in a horse. I see a lot of discussion on here about everything that is wrong, but it may have worked for the guy on the ground (assuming that the guy on the horse is new to this because of ...well, everthing about what he's doing) I think its too early to call this a success like the caption suggests.

  • You are clearly inexperienced, wearing no helmet, wearing sandals, and the tack is clearly too lose and unfitted. And for anyone who thinks that it's his choice and that it doesn't make a difference if he's wearing 'gear' then think twice. Yea, sure it's his choice, whatever, but really, it's not his choice to pay the hospital bill. You shouldn't be 'breaking' horses, I don't even like that term, if you are not experienced enough.

  • this guy has sandals on why?

  • this is much nicer then it can be though

  • first person that horse my ass i have broke alot of horses that horse was alittle green but it had deffnitetly ben rode before that son bitch

  • Just fyi to those of you griping about no helmet, I've trained all my horses without a helmet. I'm alive! If I die doing it well at least I die happy folks ;)

  • so funny cuz people are all saying this ir really dangerous and stupid, but u kno wat, its not that its dangerouse to not wear gear, its just white people have no balls, viva la rasa!

  • This video is no about breaking in a horse....

  • All the planets and moons and galaxies in the universe lined up for this one, I had to watch this video several times cuz I couldn't believe that the trainer, the rider and the horse all didn't wind up with broken bones or dead in the end. So little attention to safety here.

  • i have a feeling that u r supposeted to were a helmet and also some proper riding shoes but at least u were pretty nice to the horse she/he is very pretty i would die to have a horse like that

  • u didnt wear a helmet very unsafe but u had a good technique no fear was put into this horse

  • hear those indians?

  • What the hell were you thinking "breaking in" a horse without a helmet... dumbass!!! You could have been killed

  • looks like that horse would be a pretty good jumper with the height gorgeouss

  • beautiful horse tho

  • is that a guy or a girl riding lmfao

  • I kept thinking,,, please turn him loose, I want to see that horse buck him off, just for being dumb and wearing flip flops and looking like a mexican drug lord not to mention for having POS of a saddle !!! Let the horse loose please please !!!

  • "love the shoes " people these days t t t

  • this person is unbalanced and this moment is delicate in the horse's education. I believe there would be less protests from the horse if the rider would sit down properly and if he would be much more prepared then he is in the video. I don't think this is abuse, only indiscretion which many times is as destructive as abuse is.

  • "Yeah you look pro"

My ass. I love how the pro leans back when the horse rears. I love how the pro does not even realize that his stirrups are too short. I love how the pro notices that pulling back on the reins that hard helped him nadda.

This is an idiot and does not need to be anywhere near a horse. Flip-flops? No helmet? Are you serious?

I have come to the conclusion. He just obviously wanted to die and seriously injure the horse.

  • no hat, body protecter, flip flops and breaking in a horse brilliant combination

  • no hat, flip flops, stickin ur foot into the horses side then jumpin off n landin near the horses back legs tack not fitted very well (wonkey) ur an experienced horse rider aint ya...not, he doesnt even give the horse a pat or anything to say good job when he gets on or walking around, lets just say mate u aint my number to ride my horse

  • @mistybay1 the tack looks fine, and you know when a horse bucks you off your not exactly gonna know where you land. breaking horses obviously isn't easy. i think your mouth should be shut, the flip flops, thats definitely not a good idea. the man on the ground looks older maybe he can't break horses anymore or they can't afford some top notch loser to come in and break their horses. i can't afford so i had my friend who is a bull rider do it. gonna criticize me to??

  • way too young to br trien to ride. DUHHH

  • i think that almost fall was really good as he learnt from it

  • This is a little wrong........

  • She's sooo slender...Why is she so slender???

  • A Real Man Wears Sandals!! Chuck Norris goes BareFoot!!!

  • breaking a horse in sandals? effing crazy stupid

  • I couldn't watch this. As an equestrian and horse trainer...really...FLIP FLOPS? any where near a horse? No helmet on a horse being trained? ARE YOU MENTAL? DO YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH?

  • How old is the horse? Looks very immature - less than 2 years old? Additionally, with proper groundwork and patience (and another year or two of growing for the horse), the first ride would not have been this poor.

  • Sandals?

  • I have a 4 year old who is still growing and I am just training his 6 yo half-brother who just finished growing this year. Why rush if you want a sound and sane horse.

  • Ha ha ha wow, what idiots.

  • So pretty

  • he should watch Man breaks horse, breaks man!

  • But yes..I do agree that these people are going about everything all wrong..No helmet,no boots, and obviously no groundwork done with the horse. Not to mention they have the wrong type of saddle on the horse. They need a barrel racing saddle (high back, high front..less chance of falling). And,the saddle is totally crooked,as well as the rest of the tack..very poor choice of training method.

  • Plus, racehorses are broke when they're about 1 year old...then they race their hearts out...and if they don't do good..some of them get shot before they're even 3...And you hardly ever hear anyone bitching about that.

  • @nateandjenna2011 Wow, I would of bitched if I'd known, but I've never heard of that before. I started ground work when my horse was 2 and rode when he was 3. It took about a month to train him and his first ride went very smoothly. He is very nearly bomb proof and has all the skill and learning ability of any other horse, his only problem is the fact that he is young and onery, he still acts like a colt and tests me sometimes. These people could have easily trained this horse the right way.

  • The horse looks pretty much full grown to me. o.O...

  • The only reason people start riding horses at 2 is based in money. No horse is physically mature until they are 7 years old, and starting them at 2 can lead to mental and physical problems later on. The best time to start a horse is between 3 and 4. This horse is obviously scared and confused, and they aren't taking the time to quietly start her from the ground up. It's sad that so many people think they have to start riding horses without doing the basics and considering the horse's welfare.

  • i had a motorcycle once with clogged fuel injectors that bucked like that. just a joke. my bro cleaned them out.

  • I hate the expression "breaking in" a horse.. it sounds like it's something you do against it's will. Riding a horse should be about mutual respect and trust.

  • What breed is he/she\?

  • Lol pretty little mare. How did the flip flops work for yea?? Lol

  • Guys... Kay I'm breaking in my TWO YEAR OLD paint mare. She's not done growing yet either, but we won't start doin hard core stuff until at least next year. it doesn't matter if this horse isn't fully grown.. My cousin's horse (Who is a red and white paint mare up on Used Regina for sale!!) was about 14.5-15hh when she was first started. she's now 16hh at least. Horses keep growing until they are three-four years old.. so unless you start horses at 4 years old? u have issues i think...

  • @Amandais13

My mare was 5 until we started riding her! At 3 she was learned to pull, at 5 to ride.

The only reason why people start early is because of money. They don't want to pay for a horse they can't ride.

They are wrong. There are so many things you can do with your horse that do not involve riding it!!

  • omg this dude is so fucking metal! hes breaking in a horse wearing flip flops, no helmet and some bad ass shades! and why is everyone going on about the horse not being fully grown? western horses are purposely bred to mature at a younger age physically and mentally. for example bob mayhew who is a uk pro reiner has a video out about breaking and training your own western horses. in his video he talks about the horse and as it turns out the 4 3 year olds that he works with are all two year olds.

  • Sammi870 It depends on what you consider 'full grown'. You DO have to wait for a horse to reach the proper age before riding them because they're back has to grow strong enough to support your weight. This age is normally 2.

Anyone who wants to watch good horsemanship should watch the Mongolians. They take 9 years to finish a horse. They are that thorough.

  • What is it with people on here not wearing helmets? When people break horses in, does any body these day achually know what there doing???

  • You dont have to wait until a horse is "full grown" to start breaking it. The more they are used to things like ppl on there back the better the horse will be.

  • beautiful horse, eh, ok training. props for using a halter for her first ride. keeps her mind on one thing.

  • that guy is sh***ing himself

  • awesome first time back! cant ask for anything more! i love that paint! lol

  • This video may not be the best example, but...at least the horse looks healthy, no one is beating it, kicking it with spurs, it looks old enough to start the "breaking process" and the guy leading and riding we both calm. Thats what it takes to break a horse, you don;t just hop on and their broke to death in one day. it takes time. so more so than others.

  • That horse isn't "broken" until you can let it off the lead and it can sanely walk trot and maybe canter on its own. The horse in this video is on the verge of a breakdown the entire time. So he didn't break it. He sat on it while it freaked out and was lead around the ring a few times.

  • @equinefanatic1991

she had one freak out and an attempt to buck. maybe you should learn a lil more about training before you critisize. both handlers were calm with her. didn't beat her or push her. its not the best method but it works

  • @cuda0390

I didn't say that they beat her or pushed her. I'm saying that a horse walking on a lead is not broken in yet. There are more steps to it. The process isn't finished yet at this point. The methods you use are fine...you just shouldn't call a horse broken until it really is broken. A broken in horse can at least walk and trot with a rider. This is just a pony ride. Also, don't criticize my knowledge of training. You don't know the first thing about me, so shove it.

  • How is she riding now?

  • u dont need 2 wear a saddle what is the point ? wer im from we all go bareback :) it is much better

  • @rossfleming15 Oh, really? How many times have you gotten thrown while breaking a horse?

  • @rossfleming15 every day bareback is not good for the horse back so thats why the saddle :) (srry for my english

  • breaking in a horse without a helmet on wooden poles crazy country where you really have to work ... you have so much confidence then? Allez I would not do that!

  • scrawny ass horse

  • If u want to train a horse properaly you need to know about how the horses mind works to me the horse is giving off signs of having no trust with either rider or handler and that is no way to start a horse... that is why people and horse get killed no trust... this is my 'offence' to this video

  • @hidenseeker424 if they had round penned the horse already their would be no need for the horse to be lead around this video is the first time riden and if the horse had been worked from the ground in a pen then they wold get on the horse in the pen not in a turn out padock...

  • sandals? seriously?

  • yall that keep tellin ppl how to break their horse need to shut up erbody has diff. styles ppl aint idiots fer doin sometheir way so stfu!

yalll did a fine job GORGEOUS horse too ! ()--()

  • what an idiot!!!!

  • lucky to have such a good ground person. makes all the difference in the world

  • @icebluedakota no idea where you got "tie them to a pole and let them freek out till they dont have any energy left to fight you" a proper broke western horse should follow you when rein over their neck and when reins on floor not move there is no tieing up involved in western breaking. the proper way to do it is to work the horse free in a controlled area such as a round pen not be led around like a mug or a english rider... you must of been watching gypsies break cobs?

  • I think you did a great job. The horse is fine and looks great. The best way to brake a horse is to work with it and get up there and hang on as long as your not hurting it in anyway then its fine. I know horse trainers and they just jump up there and hold on. Everyone brakes horses diffrent so why complain? Nothing is wrong with the way they did this. Maybe the sandles but Indians didnt have shoes or rideing boots and they broke horses or even helmets.

  • @BridgetBlueEyes Seriously you break a horse not brake a horse.Indians rode bareback not with saddles. Makes a difference. I hate the term broke, anyway. This (looks to be a gangly) yearling, is being started, hardly broke or getting broke.

  • I think you did a great job. The horse is fine and looks great. • ach ...wake up and go online ..learn something good.

  • she is beeaauuttiffuulll!!!!!!!!! but looks too young

  • i personally think the bhs rules are shit!!! and tbh every thing in the bhs take 10 times as long !!!! HOW MANY PEOPLE AGREE!!!!! I AGREE WITH DOING THE GROUND WORK THEN SITTING UP ON UM BUT 5 DAYS N SHOULD BE ON THEIR BACK WALKING ROUND OR EVEN HAVING A LITTLE TROT!!!

  • @emokidsdontcryx3 The BHS way to break horses is for one person to lean over or sit on the horse while the other one leads it around. If you dont beleive me look it up in the hand book! everybody has thier own ways of breaking under a certain status - western/ english/ spanish/ parelli list goes on... This video is an example of western at its worse. Its not your video EMOKID so dont tell me to back the hell off. k :)

  • @AriNash007 How do you know they didn't do this already? This wasn't hurtful or scarring to the horse in any way, and only minimally dangerous to the rider. What's your offense to this video?

  • boots and helmet might make this a bit better...and if anyone says "OOHHHH BUT HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO LANNND!" well, horses are unpridictable, and there is a chance that u wont be able to fall the right way :P

  • your method of 'breaking' sitting and being lead around while horse freeks is a very english or BHS way of doing it. you put shame to the name western riding.

  • @AriNash007 okay that's just offensive. not all english riders break horses like this. in fact i break horses MUCH differently, and i've ridden english all my life. i hate people who think english riders are horrible. western riding is just as bad, so back the hell off.

  • @AriNash007 what and the western way to do it is better? tie them to a pole and let them freak out till they dont have any energy left to fight you.Throw a saddle on and see if you can stay on. western breaking in is just plain cruelty

  • are those sandals hes wearing?

  • He isn't too big for this horse believe me I would know (6'4-210). I prefer to ride horses that are from 14.5 to 15 hands. My bulldogging horse is 14 hands even, has never been lame and isn't slowing down. Horses break down when you start them young due to their breeding and not big people on them. My dad is pushing 260 pounds and his team roping horse is 22 and isn't slowing down, he is still roping 5 flats on him. As for helmets, what do you first learn when breaking horses... How to Land

  • This is still a baby and she's choking because of stress and look at her tail she's full of stress this will do no good to her legs at all.

Look at her tail she's so full of stress, when a young hors is big dosn't mean you can ride it at that very young age she's not even three years old shame on you to hurt this horse at this time, her growingplates are just beginning to settle a littlebit and by riding her know you will distroy the plates and she will live til she's 7 and then end of story.

  • @aztib Did you look in this horse's mouth? Do you know for a fact how old she is? I've seen horses five and older who look like this. No horse is going to be particularly happy when they first get a rider, but this rider did it in a safe, minimally traumatizing or dangerous way. Horses are mature enough physically to hold a rider by the time they are 3, and usually sound enough to begin jumping small fences at 5. Relax, this isn't abuse.

  • @hidenseeker424 We brake our horses at 2 (im just sayin) 2 is a fine age to ride a horse, but not before 2. but u are right.

  • @Mountainman180 Yep, that's true. Bigger-boned horses are fine to be started & ridden by a lighter rider at 2. I personally prefer 3 years for any real riding training, but I'm also overly-cautious about these things. Thanks for the comment!

  • @hidenseeker424 this definately had potential to be tramatic, and this method is in fact very unsafe.

  • @Amb3lica For the rider? Yes, absolutely, very unsafe. But that's up to the rider to take on that risk, this guy is clearly over 18 and can make his own choices. He is also taking on a risk by starting a young horse at all, something that is INHERENTLY volatile. And any handling of a horse "has the potential to be traumatic"; you don't know how much backing or work was done beforehand. Some horses will just freak when being backed, no matter how long you wait.

  • Good Job what a gorgeous horse i agree it is a beautiful horse but weres his helmet and his proper boots or riding boots ? :/ :D

  • Too bad, that a lot of people dont mind to breake such a young horse. No horse should be ridden at all before it is at least 3 years old, better wait until 4 years. By the way this horse seems to be not ok, coughing and the rider + saddle are too big, sad.

  • fools...

  • i feel so sorry for that young horse and the guy riding her/him the guy looks way to big for the horse to to have on his/her back!! Sad!!! :(

  • ugh this makes me shudder .. close as you can get to animal abuse.,. the guy is too big the saddle is too big she is too young even if she is close 15 hands or more, and and coughing.. this is bad people very very bad..

  • She's a very beautiful horse!

  • riding a horse with flip flops on!!! where they do that at???

  • @thekycowboy no i think its common sence to wear a helmet, not the fact that were 'pussies'.

  • wow ud rather look cool than b safe, ud rather break and ruin the young horses legs than wait, and ud rather put an inexperienced rider than get a proffesional......... i pity u and the person whos video taping this

  • Is he wearing sandles...?

  • What happened to that gorgeous long legged horse, the poor creature was coughing like hell around 0:54 - 0:57!

  • the youngist i'd say youd break a horse in is at 2.

  • Sorry, but I think you should check out Clinton Anderon's colt starting DVDs...this ain't right.

  • anyone else wounded how many fucking roosters they have in the back ground and why the fuck is he trying to ride a green (to say the least) horse in slip on sandals wtf man

  • how old is that horse like one? wtf

  • i got concusion and was out for 2 hours after a small fall from my horse. you need a helmet.

  • You say stupid helmet.....well one day that stupid helmet might save your life! Man pride isnt worth your life is it? Many people have been killed beacause of not wearing a helmet. Just look up the statistics. And yeah...what is up with the mandles..lol

  • she is not even full grown.

  • @Saartjen If she was, she woulda been throwin him around and buckin..Not sittin there dyin with his fat A on her back!

  • @Saartjen Horses can be broke from 2 years old. Matter of fact, my horse was broke by her trainer at 18 months.

  • what the hell do you not have any proper equipment in america !! and go much more easy on the horse you gradually get on its back not just jump on !!! ffs you shouldnt be allloud to break in a horse for your own health and saftey !

  • jump straight up on its back i DO

  • It's a beautiful horse

  • what's with the mandals?

  • @thekycowboy i agree i dont c the piont n helmets i broke my 2 yr old mare just fine no probs at all and no need for a stupid helmet it's like sayin u gotta wear a helmet to ride a bike

  • @nativecountryboy03

when you will break in a few 4 year olds never ben handeled before, then you will understand what do you need a helmet for

  • I agree. Much too fast on the first mount. Safety also an issue for me, especially here where others may be watching to get ideas. No helmet and no heels - not a good idea. Also better head control of the horse would prevent accidents such as the near loss of balance. Lucky no one got hurt.

  • well you could have used a step to get up, so its not so much pull on the horse and so you can go alittle slower with it, and before you start leading it around practise mounting and dismounting, let the horse get used to the weight and feel of a rider on its back. also, get a rider thats not so tense, him being tense and nervous just rubs off onto the horse. also, your toes are down, if you get thrown ur foot will get stuck in the stirrup and probably freak out the horse... heels down!!!

  • OK horse can be started at 2 yr old. Most people started them once their knees are closed enough to not cause leg problems. Most started them and ride them for 30 days and let them sit till the are 3 yr old and then start riding them a little hard.

  • So wait, what aspect of this was a success? That the horse was only mildly traumatized after being ridden before she was ready, or that the rider didn't get his helmetless head or naked toes busted open?

  • horses are supposed to be broken at two not three. and helmets are stupid.

  • Funny :D The first steps with saddle AND rider seems as the horse wants to say ''HELL I CANT BREATH ANYMORE!" very well done for the first time. was it the first time? dont know. but great job =)

  • That horse looks exactly like my horse Danny. My horse is a paint with mostly white on him

  • ook...da dude is wearing flip flops breaking in a horse...alriigt...okay...da 1st ive herd of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and hes wearing no helemt????

    all i have to say to dis is ' ? ' .

  • some people shouldnt own horses...

  • @bridlelessgirl and i know ho dat 'some people' is....

  • Yes, I agree with some other comments, it probably would have been good to go a little slower with her, but this is not near as bad as some of the other videos I've seen on youtube. Good job for not doing something completely insane and dangerous with her. (:

  • @2005countryboy I must say I misjudged you, didn't expect a calm and reasonable answer, cool. Hey about their comfort, do check the gear. Busting in Argentina is very basically 3 categories. 1.Bareback and no bit 2. a tiny cinched cushion that rests snug between your crotch and the horse, a leather bit 3. saddle and leather bit. The stirups only have a slit for your big toe or a couple of toes. You have to keep whipping the horse and legs don't rake with spurs. I see a couple of differences

  • @akanewe No what i was referring to was in the description it says "breaking in a horse. successful". I meant that this horse is a long way from being broke. and i agree, being led around or ponied is sometimes necessary. maybe successful at not getting piled into the dirt but i wouldnt say at breaking the horse.

  • @moonbaby83 Yeah, quite right, I agree now that I understand what you were saying.

  • @2005countryboy That's just it, yes the cowboys know all there is about horses and riding. Too bad that isn't the truth though. I'm sure you know all too well the vast scope of horses and riding styles and ways around the world so lets just take one, bronco busting in Argentina (I bet you have no idea where that coubtry is!) Take a look at this guy and tell me what you think, be honest. Copy this title into your browser and watch the first vid:

Jorge Ariztegui y "El Zorro" - Primera parte

  • not to sound negative or anything but i wouldnt exactly consider this "riding". this horse is just barely tolerating you on her back while you are being led around in a circle....haha, try doing it on your own.

  • @moonbaby83 Yes you don't mean to but you do. I'm sure you know a lot more about horses and riding than I do, but breaking in might need someone taking you around, etc. at some point or with some horses. Sometimes I've done it alone other times I just couldn't. It's not sissy to take help, its damn stupid not to just to look manly or cool. Still you do it the way you understand best and have fun.

  • Comment removed

  • Why did you get on so quick? When breaking a horse aren't you supposed to be slow and steady?

  • pretty paint

  • Thanks for your comments, but please think about what some of you are saying. You are nobody to say he should..he should'nt. you are not the authorities on horse riding! If any of you have travelled you would know that the US is just another country and not the centre of the world. Riding goes on despite the US and their ways! This guy is having fun, he doesn't want a helmet and yes he wants sandles. He got on and stayed on that's all. Now do what YOU want if you can or dare and quit nagging.

  • loving the flip flops ha ha

  • cute sandals.

  • Will you people stop it with the "Where's the helmet ? " talk. It is that persons choice. Horses have been broken in for thousands of years without anyone wearing helmets. How have we turned into such pussies?

  • Did anyone else notice all those roosters in the background? Just sayin'.

  • Helmet??? seriously!! this is population control. if you make it to the next day your lucky. if you need a helmet then maybe you need to spend more time on your tricycle before youn move up to riding a horse!

  • I think ill stick to my round pen!!! VERY pretty horse I like the overo in the back!

  • flips flops and no helmet. smart.

  • she is pretty tall and long legs and really pretty

  • Obviously she is not likely your techniques from the way her tail is continuously "swishing" from side to side like that. You should have taken it MUCH slower. Ps. just sitting on a horse doesn't mean you "broke" them in....

  • Did you bother to prepare this horse for saddle?? You should get half way on and get off a ton of times before you just walk up and jump on. Try using some riding boots instead of flip flops. And a helmet might come in handy when breaking a horse.

  • im curious of thety did groundwork?

  • flip flops seriously i hate to wear regular shoes just riding a 8 yr old

  • I got my horse when he was three and green. I really hope he wasn't broken like this poor paint.

  • That guy is a little too cocky with his flip flops, sunglasses, and tight shirt. Pretty horse though!!

  • He's wearing thongs?

    Are you serious?

    O_o

  • Are you guys being attacked by like 1,000 Indians in the background or something?

  • @Counted01 It so sounds like it! LOL!! I didn't realize it until I read your comment.

  • holy look at those legs!!

  • very cute baby!

  • Thats such a pretty horse. It has really long and slender legs. Im glad that you decided to work slowly on the horse instead of jumping on and let it buck its energy out.

  • behindert ist das....man kann doch nicht in flipflops reiten ...lackaffe da oben drauf armes pferd

  • @2005countryboy haha hell ya thats what i basically do with my colt when he starts rearin and shit lol

  • beautiful horse.......is 2 a good age to start in the saddle...just curious i have a two yr old filly shes a tall one also :)

  • @bjhmgh 2 is usually the average age that a horse is broke. but it all depends solely on the horses rate of growth. if your filly is not growing very fast any more then she should be fine. you just dont want to start while her bones are still developing because it could cause long term damage. but good luck with your filly!

  • omg what a beautiful horse!!!! your very lucky
