  • "No good bending it when you stroke it..."

Wow... Sounds like a Clarence Carter song...

  • cool.. i saw many people playing a musical saw but none impressed me this much. the vibrato was perfect. sounds like a soprano singing.

  • Internet is great for old people. This is me when i'm 75.

  • what kind of saw is this?

  • If someone is reading this comment, do a favor for someone today ASAP

  • @genraz I added this video to my saw playlist. Its a favor to the author of this video, a favor to all liking saw music and a favor to myself, for I think it´s a great idea, to teach like this people, how to start playing an instrument.

Thank you for your idea with this favor, it would be great, if all of us start to give favor instead of giving disharmonies.

    regards

    Volker

    thanks for sharing this video

  • sounds like martians are coming

  • you're amazin mate. you can come round and pump my sister. well done!!!!!!

  • @davidheroX5 youve got issues -.-

  • Super-Neeto! You are totally fun!!!

  • that was beautiful, Jim

  • Quite beautiful!!!

  • So a group of musical 'sawists', is a 'bandsaw'?

  • Da-Boom-Boom!

  • I thought this piece was from 'Cats'?

Guess I was wrong. So I better agree, or this guy will make me an offer I can't refuse...

Nice playing. Is that a rip-saw or a cross cut? Lol!

    BC

  • It is from cats

  • That's amazing! I love the idea of using non-musical objects as musical instruments. It's similar to what a lot of German industrial bands have done.

  • try an inhaler or a spoon

  • I don't mean to be "this guy" but can you just use any old saw and a contrabass bow or something?

  • should be a bow saw around 26" without much rust. i bought one at the flea market for $5. plus any old bow with rosin.

  • Sweet. Thanks. I might get one. A few I've seen don't seem to have any teeth though. Is that a problem?

  • it shouldn't matter if it has teeth or not although i've only played & seen them played with teeth. i suppose that's because teeth-less saws are kind of pointless.

  • wow amazing!

  • Look like a female opera voice

  • look like a opera woman voice...

  • wow lol thats cool, and weird. it looks hard, you got skill

  • So many sexual innuendos

  • Rabidus: uh... not really. I'm sick of people who can relate EVERYTHING to sex... is it a talent?

  • As a matter of fact, yes, it is. It's my favorite one. Also, I'm pretty sure they were meant to be sexual innuendos in this video.

  • lol, yeah its a talent, I do it all the time lol ;) I agree there are so many in this video, made me laugh so much.

  • Bend, stroke and tremble, "I will show you my stroke....." "It's no good bending when you're stroking it" lol!

  • haha:D thats so fucking cool!

  • This guy rules

  • thatz kool,

sounds like some weird effect muse would use, lol

  • Absolutely ace, suggest more rosin on the bow hair & glue on the rug!

A beautiful rendition of a tune, the name of which escapes me, but it's not the Godfather.

    Keep on sawing Mr. Phil

  • It's not from the Godfather, but from "Cats"..."memories"

  • Phil you are a genius!!! Ive wanted to play a saw for quite a while and I loved your vid, very inspirational. Bend Stroke Vibrate... I will remember your advice my friend, thanks Andy

  • lol he said a musical song. Aren't all songs musical?

  • No, he said musical SAW.

  • haha, I guess you're right.

  • you would be surprised at how many current songs aren't musical

  • w.o.w

  • Bit too much tremolo, but otherwise great.

  • its actually vibrato, he just got his terms mixed up :) vibrato refers to pitch, tremolo to volume.

  • You're absolutely right, my bad.

  • actually, i'm fairly certain he said tremble.

  • Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! The world needs more folk like this! If we were all at home learning the saw the world might be a bit more of a peaceful place! Full praise sir!

  • sounds like a theremin

  • that is very butiful it sounds like some one singing or somthig like that.

  • that music sounds so much like the song Memory from the musical Cats!!

  • I have always wnated to play a saw! It is SO cool!!! we r learinning about it in class

  • maybe a bit too much tremble

  • COOOOL....WOW....

  • this maybe the funniest video i have ever seen on youtube. i mean like at 1:55 when the music really kicks in, with all the awkward smiles and crazy passion going on. Its really incredible and nuts at the same time.

and man, that's a shitty toupee

  • make videos constantly please

  • that's bloody brilliant! it's like someone is singing opera !!

  • you are very good with that saw (: awesome!!

  • u can go blind doing this i tell u that OMG LOL! THIS OLD MAN ROCKS!

  • No good bending it while your stroking it

  • so isnt that a bit dangerous? i mean if you had to hit a really high note then wouldnt the saw snap in half and slit something open?

  • nah, i'm pretty sure musical saws are specially designed not to be that sharp. they're for playing, not cutting!

  • trust me, the saw is very tough, I can't imagine bending it to that level haha

and I've never had it snap back at me

  • OMG!!! This Old Man RULESSS!!!!!!!

  • Powerhouse

  • I'd like to see you play that rug you're wearing, too.

  • omg, that comment made me laugh my ARSE off! xD!

  • absolutely brilliant. cheers, my friend.

  • dont u giv me the fingers ya boy ya. away in sleep in ur cupboards

  • well if its 3 things you have to do to play that thing, then you also get 3 letters from me.

    w-o-w.

  • nice nice sounds good

  • yeah.. I was just about to say.. I rememebr this from CATS.

  • what a man

  • yeah it is memory by andrew lloyd webber's CATS

but OMG it sounds fantastic :D

  • is this the godfather? i thought it was Cats. "Memory" by Andrew Lloyd Webber. anyway, that was really cool.

  • cool XD

  • Fantastic! Great work, you made my day. Please record more, it was beautiful.

  • one of the most beutiful things you could play on a saw

  • amazin!

  • nice wig

  • Sometimes it sounds like theremin :D

  • fucking AWESOME!

  • You are great! For how long have you played the saw?

  • I am trying to play one now as I watch your video, and it helped very much to get a visual on how to hold it and the bow,you are so talented and lucky to know how to play music, something of which ,I wish I could do. I am a woman on a mission, determined to learn and instrument, and I find this one fascinating!

  • nice

  • Probably doesn't cut straight now...

  • Absolfrigginlutely beautiful. Going out to hunt for a bow and saw any moment now!!

Thank you! PS One of my all time favorite Andrew Lloyd Weber songs!

  • You r awesome Sir!!!!

  • thats a violin bow right?

  • You are absolutely wonderful, sir!!!!

  • COOL!!! please can you tell me the brand of this saw?

  • Thanks, I've had one of these things for about a year. It had a Xerox of instructions. That's the only instruction I've had. Thanks for the demo,

  • woooow. Thats really cool.

  • coolio

  • rofl.....this is like one of those guys who plays the spoons. rofl... loves the dilly

  • lol uber im gona get 1

  • is it his sound? it is not a voice?

  • I know a kid who is insane at playing the saw. He can play a ton of great music, not that this guy isn't good but this kid blows him away

  • Philouis14 - if you visit NYC it would be great to have you join one of the Musical Saw Players Gatherings.

  • you can use any bow. just make sure you treat the bow hair with rosin(get that from a music shop)

  • Wow, you have some talent man.

  • Very nice!

But errr... I don't think it's the Godfather theme.

It's 'Memory' from the musical Cats written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

You can try the Godfather Theme too if you will, I'd love to hear you play it!

Keep up the good worm, err work.

  • this was so beautiful

  • I know this guy!!! Isn't he so cooool!!!

  • Can that be done on a saw from a hardware store?

  • sounds like a soprano!

  • what kind of bow are you using?

  • I am using an ordinary Cello bow. I found the Violin bow not so easy to use!

  • Thanks for all your kind comments! I really deserved them! (Only joking!) Philip Linder.

  • Awesome! I love that music, too, which made it even better. I must get one!

  • wow, you made me decide! I want one too!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Your intonation is extraordinary. I loved it.

Bill (an aspiring - and perspiring (or perhaps expiring)but now definitely inspired - saw player

  • Thanks man! That helped alot in my attempt to learn to play the saw. though I need a better saw.... hmm.

  • My dog loved it as much as me and just had to join in!

  • Amazing!
