  • I have the tangerine version of yours

  • youre clamshell is very clean i honor the fact that even though it is old you keep it clean

  • on the subject of durability, My grandmother sat her sofa down on top of my graphite clamshell (while it was in my laptop bag) and she didn't know that she had sat the couch on it so she sat down and about 20 minutes later i couldn't find my iBook so i searched everywhere for it and found it under the couch D: and frantically pulled it out from under the leg to see that there was no damage whatsoever to my iBook :) Check out my channel for my iBook video! it should be up in a couple hours! :)

  • I have a clamshell laptop but i dont know what one it is how do you tell plzzzz some one email me on how to tell swich one it is

  • looks beautiful man, getting one tomorrow for school! (hopefully)

  • I just upgraded my clamshell to XGA. Now have 1024x768 after a open firmware mod.

  • would you be willing to sell it

  • Sorry, I've already given it to my five year old cousin.

  • I bought one of these a little over a week ago after doing a LOT of research about them. (I actually watched this video before it got it.). It's a Graphite Firewire 466Mhz SE Model with 320MB of ram (256 + 32) running 10.4 tiger. I bought a AirPort card for it and i really like it! The wireless works way better then i expected. Great detail on the video by the way.

  • That's the pc for me! It's blue and cute!!! Now if only it ran Windows... :D

  • @Unicornguy you cold put windows 98 or just xp on it but it would be kinda useless

  • I know! But it looks so nice for me! It's like this laptop was forged just for me!

  • yea im getting one soon i hope!

  • Great video. Very detailed.

  • i bought 1 off of eBay for $25.00 dollars. it works perfect

  • They were one of the best notebooks Apple ever made!

  • @bbishoppcm-- reply-- True, your never going to find a apple notebook on the market today with such independance, durability, and compactness. They just need a bigger hard disk and ram uprade.

  • I installed 10.4 on my iBook G3 466Mhz SE with an External DVD drive.,I also have a Blueberry and Tangerine,the Tangerine has 10.3,288MB Ram,300Mhz,and 40GB HD.and Airport,and my 466 Graphite has an Airport.

  • thanks for the vid, im getting one tomorrow on a deal i found on craigsist for $45. It runs on OS9 though which is the only problem (other than the dead battery, but so far every video i have seen reports a dead battery, and being such an old laptop, i know why) so i will have to upgrade that i am thinking. Hope its not too much

  • Excellent! Are you getting the original 300 MHz model? The nice thing is, with a few upgrades, they can all run 10.3.9, and if you're feeling adventurous, there is a version of Ubuntu Linux for the power PC (although it's a dog on a 300 MHz machine). Good luck!!

  • I got mine for $5 at a garage sale.

  • wow! i wish i could get one for $5!!!!!!

  • So you say this has no cooling fans, yet the MacBook and MacBook Pro do have cooling fans, very interesting. How hot does the case get when the computer is running at full tilt? My mother has a MacBook, and it can get quite warm if running for a while, and doing a lot of tasks, then of course the fan comes on and the system starts sounding like a jet fighter.

  • The iBook G3 Clamshell uses the structural (aluminum) components as a large heatsink, and no, it actually never gets hot... runs very cool!

  • these are palstic with vents in the back ... the macbooks are alluminum

  • Thank you captain obvious!

  • were do you reccomend geting one

  • Try eBay, that's where I found mine.

  • That iBook G3 Battery Lasts 6Hours

My Modern PC Laptop: 45mins If I'm Lucky

And That Battery Is UnUsed Nearly As I Got My Laptop From My Nan And She Never used it much

  • Hey, i just brought one of these clamshells with 300mhz G3, 32 or 64mb ram 3.2gb hdd for 60$ new zealand dollars,

  • An excellent laptop computer. With 576 MB of ram, you can do alot of stuff on that machine! Play half life, watch youtube, play deus ex, sims, stereo, watch dvd...etc. A good value for a fine computer.

  • Really nice machine =)

I am soon to get a Tangerine Clamshell =) But I want to change harddrive to a 20GB 2.5" harddrive I have laying around here in my home.. =) But found a good homepage on how to change it... But Panfully 12 Pages long.. And the 12 pages to reassemble everything again.. :S need to start early in the morning to get everything done until night :D hehe.. Would appreciate if you did a video on opening the clamshell =) //Kelly - Sweden

  • I'd like to do a video of disassembly, but i've already had mine apart a few hundred times! Seriously though, with the right screwdriver set (you need a Torx screwdriver set), a little patience, and some thought, it shouldn't take more than half an hour to replace the drive. It's not as difficult as it looks. The documentation should tell you where the screws and hidden "latches" are.

  • Okay ! =)

Thank you so much for replying on my comment! =)

I have a Torx Screwdriver set at home =) Maybe I'll try to do this myself =)

    //Kelly

  • hello again!

i have replaced my harddrive in my ibook tangerine to a 40gb harddrive =)

but 2 screws was left when i assembled it again o.O do u know huw much ram it can handle? i've heard several amounts but not sure. thanx in advance!

    //Kelly

  • Lollan, if your machine has 64 MB of onboard memory, you can stuff a 512 MB PC66 (or PC100) module into it for a total of 576 MB memory. If your machine has 32 MB, you can have up to 544 MB memory.

  • I just bought this iBook today on ebay for €54 with the exact specs of listed expect mine comes with OS 9.2. I'm going to get 512MB of memory and run Panther on it

  • very cool!

    I have too.

  • I commented before I heard the whole video and your plans to upgrade the RAM. I've got a Paris Key Lime, given to me for nuthin that I've popped a 512 MB module into. I tried Tiger on it, but it was painful so I downgraded to Panther and am much happier. Panther really is the sweet spot for these machines. Youtube videos actually play if you allow the video to load and set the monitor to thousands I've found. Bummer you can't right click and choose "low quality" like you used to.

  • I don't know if you have tried this, Use Opera internet browser on PPC macs, it runs flash much more smooth. i had a G3 400mhz and it was able to play normal quality video at a decent frame rate with opera, i will try it on my new ibook when i get it in 2days

  • I agree, Opera runs much smother on mt 1999 333mhz, 192mb RAM, 6gb iMac rev.D Blueberry. But then again, Opera is the best fot linux and windoze, too

  • forgot to say my iMac is a G3 (obvious, right?)

  • If you put more RAM on that puppy it will be much faster. 64 MB is barely adequate to run OS 9 let alone Panther. RAM install is easy on clamshells, the only thing that is easy actually. I am impressed that you were able to get that hard drive installed.

  • You're right, these machines shipped with a woefully inadequate amount of memory! I've upgraded this machine to 576 mb. The hard drive in this was a snap, when compared to the later iBook models. I am actually a certified Apple technician, and am very familiar with their products (inside and out!). I agree, a novice may have some difficulty working on these.

  • i used to have one of those. OS 9 oughtta run nice on that one.

  • how much are thy

  • How much are what?

  • Great video, I am going to buy all 5 colors one day! I already have Indigo and Graphite!

  • I'd like to acquire an SE model, this 300 mhz unit is painfully slow under 10.3.9.

  • Is it? Well I haven't ever had a 300MHz one but I shall one day (I hope).

  • mine is coming in the mail!

  • Great video, thats my favorite computer by Apple.

  • i had the same 1 with 512 ram 15 gig drive and 300mhz g3. it was a great machine. i used panther on it. i had iphoto imovie and a whole lot of other things. i was great till the motherboard fried. then i gave it 2 1 of my older kids who repaired it and kept it for school. i use 2 use it for everything. even took it 2 the park and as the kids played i would take photos and videos of them and edit it right on the playground with the kids jumping on me and sand flying.

  • Also they do accept 512 ram, i had one in mine. 575mb ram!! + 15gb hdd

  • I had the same one, sold it on ebay for $175

  • could you send that to me please im a pc user im dying to get somesort of mac please message me back

  • Nice review. I've got three of these machines all in different colors of course all were upgraded with new harddisks and maximum of ram 576 Mb. My favorite color is indigo.

  • Cool, I had one of them when i was in around.. 1st grade.. i loved it..

  • dude if you dont like it that much, send it to me!

  • "300 megahurt"? MHZ is megahertz... named after Heinrich Hertz, pronounced "hurts".

Anyway, I was able to load up my original Bondi Blue 233 MHz iMac with 512 MB of RAM, despite the naysayers who claim it only accepts up to 256 MB, or especially Apple's official maximum of 128 MB.

  • I wasn't born yesterday, I know better. I apologize for offending you.

  • "Megahert" should really be the singular form... such as when talking about a "1 megahert" Apple ][. :-)

I hear the classic "Sosumi" sound at 1:19... is that really still included in OS X, or did you copy it over? I know "Wild Eep" died with OS 9, which is a shame because it's my all-time favorite.

  • Man i remember when those were new my school had them they were wicked
