I liked the commentary for this where Nicholas Meyer talks about how he discovered the best way to direct William Shatner. Shatner kept saying "Here it comes!!" in a really cheesy, blatant way, so Meyer kept doing take after take until Shatner got bored and he then delivered it perfectly as you see in the film.
Has that final flourish at 3:31 ever been explained? My guess has always been that it was meant to coincide with the turbolift doors opening onto Scotty holding his nephew, but was considered too dramatic.
LOL. Just like the other quoters here.....amazing how well I know this movie. Listening to the soundtrack, I don't just hear the words....Now...Mr. Spock....boop, blau, boop, bleep, bee beep! Do do do do do do do.....
A lot of Horner's work is similar, he did the score for "Aliens" and yes a lot of notes in that score sounds like the Star trek 2 and 3. He is still a great composer...
What get's me is Kirk did a dubbie and didn't raise the shields on the Enterprise as it should have been a "Yellow Alert" situation: Shields charged, weapons on standby. This of course was when they made first contact withe the Reliant. Though it was still cool to see a Miranda class utterly pwn a Constellation class.
As the remote command to deactivate the Reliant's shields is executed after the prefix code is entered from the Weapons Control Console in the Main Control Room (Bridge) on the Enterprise.
in the 2200's (TOS) starship computers didnt have voice responses and didnt take voice commands. They only had that in the 2300's (TNG)...i think "wheres the overide!" got the point across well
"Khan, how do we know you'll keep your word??" - "Oh, I've given you no word to keep, Admiral. In my estimation, you simply no other alternative." - "I see your point".
"THE OVERRIDE! Where is the OVERRIDE?" hahaha Ricardo Montalban you are missed.
To be honest though, Horner did cleverly borrow/steal/use the "string section shark motif" John Williams used in Jaws to paint the Reliant as a dangerous predator ready to attack.
You would think reliant's prefix code would at least require one uppercase letter, special character etc... :-)

@Chessbama In fact all the passwords in star trek are weak . What was the self destruct code? 1, 1a, 2b...

Kirk will always be the best scrappy captain. Arrogant but resourceful to almost no end even it it means giving up his beloved ship.

@vikingfortiesfaeroes LOl yeah shatner can be an A55 at times, but meyer at least squeezed one of his best performances out of him.

FIRE!

Enterprise phasers rip into Reliant's primary hull.
Kirk says again, "FIRE!"
Phasers then blow out Reliant's "skylight," which is a.k.a. an impulse crystal in the tech manual.
MusicalFan1701 2 years ago 2
Khan: NOOO Not the beatuiful sky light! T_T Aww man! THat took a whole week to put in :(

Add-on to comment:

The Reliant's computer should've said the phrase.
