This is the last solo for the bird, and yes, there was a costume change. Bejart changed the costume for the bird that year, because we had a guy doing the role who had short legs, and he just asked everyone to wear the red pants who danced the role that year.
I love the little details, like the little shake in the beginning like a bird trying to unwet it's feathers, or the first extension thing (I'm a singer not a dancer at all so forgive me if I use wrong terminology), where it looks like both your arm and leg are on one string. It just looks really organic, and real.
I learned this variation more than 20 years ago from a dear teacher of mine, Michael Thomas, who is gone now, from AIDS. It was wonderful seeing it again. You dance it beautifully. It was the piece that made me fall in love with Stravinsky's music.
Thank you for your compliments. You just scared me though, because I know someone named Michael Thomas, who used to dance with Ailey. I hope you're not talking about him. Somehow I don't think you are, because he never danced for Bejart, and wouldn't have known this ballet 20 years ago.
Oh, no, I know who you're talking about, and he's very much alive. My teacher died in the early '90's. Many of my teachers died back then. It was a dark time for dance. Even Alvin died in that era.
Ramon Flowers,You are perfection in taste and style in this difficult solo. What also stands out for me, is that your base technique is 100% classical ballet!Bejart had impeccable taste in dancers.Bravo!
technique has come a long way indeed but Bejart is a one of a kind talent raised old school, he deserves great respect, I just don't think you can compare.
Thanks for your opinion, I'm glad Bejart was the one who believed I had the technique to dance this role when he made me first cast, as well as the European critics, and not you! I wonder, can you dance at all, or do you just sit on your fat a** and pick other people apart?
Please watch alvin ailey do this..... i have seen Matthew Rushing and Clifton as the firebird and they will BLOW U AWAY believe me.... go c them nx season people RIP Bejart
I hope you're not so narrow minded as to base your opinion of Maurice Bejart's fame on this one small excerpt of his many amazing works! May He Rest In Peace!
WHHHHAAATTT!!! Ramon that is bananas! You are beautioful. Seeing your extensions makes my heart melt. Your fluidity is mesmerizing! Thanks you for sharing! JOHNNY
you realise how amazing this piece is when you no longer see a human but an actual bird

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I dont get it....whats so beautiful about females and males moving their legs and arms in slow motion? They probably do that in bed.
P.S
THIS IS MY OPINION. PLEASE DO NOT SEND HATE MESSEGES OF WHAT I QUOTE, FOR I AND EVERYONE ELSE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION.

Thank you. Just stick with it, it takes time and hard work, but if it's something you love, I'm sure that you'll be just as beautiful in time!

Lovely music, but overmodulated (much distortion). Bejart ballets are stunning. See Bolero, Sacre du printemps.

Just saw Alvin Ailey perform this piece in Detroit .. Clifton Brown danced...it was STUNNING....What an exquisite piece...
And it is still one of my favorite Stravinsky ballet scores...
Ramon, you do a lovely job in the excerpt above.
