Bob Dylan is a legend. He doesn't have anything to prove any more. Also, the issue of his singing - that was never an issue. Nobody listens to Dylan to hear someone singing like Aretha Franklin. Dylan never gave a fuck, and he still doesn't. That's part of what made him great. He does his own thing and doesn't care what anyone thinks. He's an icon. Also, I'm in my 20s and I completely get him and know plenty of people my age who do.
Bob Dylan is great... i feel like they chose a bad song and they should of had his own band... the avett brothers and mumford and sons all playing at once overdid it...
Train used to make good music. That song from the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack - "Ordinary" - was boss. Now they make this pussy song "Hey, Soul Sister".
And God, can there be any more ass-kissing celebrities up Howard's ass, BTW?
@bathroommonkey76 No, Stern didn't make fun of Bob Dylan: He articulated a weak, feeble theory of greatness. And Howard Stern is NOT great. He's not nearly as good an interviewer on the radio as Terry Gross or Diane Rehm or Scott Simon. His years on the air, the money he has made, his dabbling in writing and film are not evidence of greatness. And this was NOT an awful performance . . . It wasn't his greatest performance, to be sure, but it wasn't any worse than Lady Antebellum's . . . et al.
@bathroommonkey76 Yes, the audio technicians and the CBS broadcast were terrible--I saw a youtube version that was mixed better, and it was a great performance. Still, it was rushed and juxtaposed to Beiber, Gaga, Emenim, Lady Antebellum, and other mediocre PRODUCT. It was hard to see how great Dylan IS in this forum. But "Maggie's Farm," "Po' Boy," "This Dream of You," "Boots of Spanish Leather," "Forgetful Heart,"--anything could have been recognized or drowned out in this setting.
@bathroommonkey76 And it's not as if Howard Stern has contributed ANYTHING to ANY art: He has not changed radio significantly, he has not done anything to transform the book, he has not changed the movie at all, and he has not changed television . . . He is just another personality in each of these media. Nothing that Howard Stern has ever done is as good as Dylan's latest CD Together Through Life from 2009. And every Dylan performance, even a bad one, is better than Howard Stern's best.
Howard Stern has been successful in all media genres. He's the most successful radio personality ever, he's written at least two books that were best sellers, he had a successful T.V. show on E and before that on Ch. 9 in New York, and now has a show on On Demand that brings to T.V. what is done in the studio daily, and his movie Private Parts was loved by the critcs and the public. He's been on radio since 1979, I think that says a lot for the guy. Controversial? Absolutely.
@jimalice1 Howard Stern has made money in several banal or trashy media settings. He's never reconfigured any medium. He's never achieved the greatest performances in any of the media he has profitted from. He is not even close to the most brilliant radio artist ever--even if he is close to the richest radio personality ever. Howard Stern hasn't accomplished anything that the Kardashians haven't done . . . Bob Dylan even surpassed Stern as a radio host: Theme Time Radio Hour . . .
Dylan was and IS a great artist. Howard Stern will always be famous trash . . . How would Stern know how to evaluate a great artist? On the Grammys, it was difficult to see how much better Dylan sings than Eminem, how much better he dances than Mick Jagger, how much more "swag" he has than Justin Bieber . . . It was difficult, but many of us saw it! And Robin is so pathetic . . . the Byrds DO NOT sing "Mr. Tamborine Man" better than Dylan . . . who is Howard Stern?
You must not listen to Howard on a regular basis because if you did you'd see the complete package. Before he went to Sirius they had 500,000 listeners, they're now at 6,000,000, so there must be something that people find interesting about his show. I never miss it and if you listenend on a regular basis I bet your view of him would change. I'm a huge Dylan fan and Stern fan!
Stern was,is & always will be a prick. How does anyone listen to the crap he comes out with.his work is sooo dated same old shit unlike Dylan, who keeps changing & moving.
I'm a huge dylan fan, but dylan sounded like shit that day, he's still the man, the myth, the legend
